ActionScript 3.0 :: What Does Packages And Classes Do
May 20, 2010I cant just get what does packages and classes do.
View 1 RepliesI cant just get what does packages and classes do.
View 1 RepliesI am creating a library in AS3. Inside the library I make use of a bunch of classes/packages that need not be exposed to the end user of my lib. I want to only expose one of these classes.
I guess my questions are:
1) How are libraries commonly distributed in AS3?
2) Is there a .jar equivalent in AS3 that developers can include, but will only have access/knowledge of the classes I've declared as public?
I'm working on a project that imports custom classes (from external as files).
Each class is in it's own file (correctly named, located), and they import and compile fine.
I am building the text version using the Flash IDE (?), and am only using actionscript. The final version will be build using Flashdevelop.
Why does the compiler choke and give an error ("1037: Packages cannot be nested") when a package is coded in the main movie?
Isn't all as code in AS3 supposed to be contained in a package?
Here is the code that works - is this OK (in regards to package code)?
ActionScript Code:
import flash.display.*;
import flash.utils.*;
import com.company.affiliateWidget.DateExample;
[Code]....
I'm new to as3 and although I am able to build classes that don't error but also don't put anything on the stage. I have Starter_1.as file stored in a folder called com...this is the script for that file:
Code:
package com {
import flash.display.Sprite;
import flash.text.TextField;
public class Starter_1 extends Sprite {
private var tField:TextField;
public function Starter_1 () {
[Code] .....
From what I can see the problem is because the addChild(tField) is not referencing the stage in anyway because the script is in an external .as file and not on the timeline (good coding practice I read somewhere?) I use this on the timeline to try put the text field on the stage:
Code:
import com.Starter_1;
var f1:Starter_1 = new Starter_1();
How do I get this working?
Say if the structure of my game is set up like this:mainMenu- Classes inside the mainMenu package.instructions- MainMenuButtonClass.- Other classes inside the instructions package.game- MainMenuButtonClass.- Other classes inside the game package.The class MainMenuButtonClass is a button that, when clicked, directs the user to the MaiMenu and is identical in both the instructions package and the game package. Would it make sense just to save the same file in two locations or is there a better way to handle it.I'm not trying to access variables between the two classes. I'm not looking for any code either.
View 2 RepliesI have a small framework that I would like to put out there. I would love to export these classes as a single file. I know there is a SWC format, but there is not much recent information on how to export build this and I have a feeling this format might be outdated.
View 1 RepliesBefore starting an class or code, you should put all your import statements..
Now I have flash application, which offers a search feature which relies on some pretty huge classes. The user is unlikely to use this feature. However, importing those classes anyway adds some pretty large kbs to my application. Is there a way to import these classes at runtime ONLY IF the user chooses to use this feature?
I'm trying to re-organize my classes into folders, currently they're all just in the same directory and it's very messy, so I've tested this out in one feature, being the bullets. So bullet.as is in the directory: [main source]/Classes/Turrets/Ammo
I so in the bullet.as file I have coded as follows:
Code:
package Classes.Turrets.Ammo {
import flash.display.MovieClip;
import flash.events.*
public class Bullet extends MovieClip {
Now this works, the bullet is fired on to the stage, however it behaves profoundly. For some reason it does not move at all or behave how it does when it is fired from the turret object, the bullets behave perfectly though when I just simply put them in the same directory as the source .fla. What can I do to easily re-organize my classes into folders without turning my objects into malfunctioning pieces of junk?
I'm building Action Script project in Flash Builder. No flex, no third party libs. Pure actionscript - hierarchy of packages and classes. How do I include a plain external .as file, which is not a package or class, but just a set of statements?
View 1 RepliesA lot of people have .com websites & put all their classes & packages inside a com folder & then their website name to avoid any possible naming conflicts when using other peoples classes - all very sensible. I have a .co.uk website however - is there an equivelant naming standard?
View 3 RepliesI am a novice in ActionScript 3.0. I am trying to use the sample code from AS 3.0 tutorial but it return me an error "Packages cannot be nested". How can I fix it? Here's the sample code: fla file format.
[Code]...
I want to set them up with packages but tried before and failed.At the moment, I've made a folder,
C:/flash/mbl
In there, I have all my classes that I want to reuse. what do I do next? I'm using Flash CS3, would also be useful to know how to do the same in Flex Builder 3.
I almost have it, ( I think) but whenever I try to use a package with more than one class in it -- even the standard ones supplied in the ActionScript references, they don't work.And, if I have anything in the flash file other than an empty single frame, it breaks. So this precludes the use of library objects, which, if you CAN use them, saves a lot of coding time..
View 3 RepliesI am trying to develop a away3d project to learn away3d. i searched internet and found some sample codes but all of them are including packages like
package
{
....
}
but i could not integrate the packages into flash action script panel. I copied and pasted but it always fails.
i just downloaded a code from the internet, but when i open it up, the code starts with ''packages''.
how can i use packages on movieclips?
Its giving error on importing mx.resource.resourcebundle that packages cannot be nested[code]...
View 2 RepliesIn the Below action script file there is an error saying cannot import mx.controls.Label, I am compiling this through command line on,linux and the environment variable path is set where flex is installed ,how to resolve this
package {
import mx.controls.Label;
public class Test
[Code]....
with the following code, I receive an error stating that packages cannot be nested.
View 8 RepliesI got the error: ''Packages cannot be nested''
package
{
import flash.display.*
import flash.events.*
[Code]....
how to get this to work. So I have 2 .as files (ImageMain and FullScreenImage)And in the fla file I have a movieclip on stage called menu and this fla is linked to the ImageMain.as
ImageMain.as (part of the code):
Code:
package {
import com.gfxcomplex.display.FullScreenImage;
public class ImageMain extends Sprite {
public static var menuIn:Number=-113;
[code]....
When I run the " red" code I get the next error:1120: Access of undefined property menu. It looks like the imported FullScreenImage.as cannot acces the menu movieclip on the stage.
when i compile and run this code its give me this error 1037: Packages cannot be nested. how to fix this
package AS.socket{
import flash.events.Event;
import flash.net.Socket;
import flash.events.IOErrorEvent;
[code].....
Is there any way to auto-import as3 classes (internal/intrinsic Flash Player classes at least) using Emacs ?
Looked for as3-mode and actionscript-mode but nothing working was found. as3-mode can import class if it is opened in buffer (but not *.mxml files)
The examples I'll use don't do anything - they're classes without ANY members - no variables, methods, anything.
Let's say I extends Sprite and call it MySprite.
I save it in test.core
[code]...
Now I create another custom class called MyWindow that extends MySprite.
I save it in test.windows
[code]...
Then I create another class that extends MyWindows (the example I'll use is a document class - but that doesn't matter - I've tested using an instance too).
[code]...
Notice that I'm not even trying to instantiate the helper classes - just having them there throws the error.
If there is only a single helper class, everything runs fine.
Also note that - as far as I can tell - this only happens when extending one class from another package, then extending that class with more than one helper object.I'm pretty sure there's no namespace bumps or typographical errors, as this is a very pared-down version of the original application.
EDIT: seems the problem exists even without the crossing packages - even extending MySprite in the document class with multiple internal classes generates this error.
I have an actionscript project which uses visual symbols from an SWC. I have a CheckoutButton which has the following class associated with it (compiled into the SWC in Flash CS3).
[Code]...
I have made a script, and now has come the point when I need to use removechild. Whenever I try this I get an error. After looking at the problem, I think I need to learn more about scope and packages. I think if I put everything in the correct scope, I will be able to use the removechild command. I tried to make all my vars public, so that removechild would work, however I got an error that anything public needs to be in a package. I tried to add the package part to my script, but got the error that packages cant be nested. I tried some other things and still no luck, just more errors.
So, if anyone could point me to a tutorial, or recommend a book or something, that will help teach me about scope and packages, Or if you are feeling patient and generous, and you think you could explain this problem to a 5 year old, please explain it to me the way you would to said 5 year old. If you maybe think you can help me out on the script, it can be found here: [URL]
I'm brand new to AS 3.0, and I'm having a lot of trouble with it. Basically, all I want to do is load in an external swf when a button is clicked. The swf to be loaded would be defined by a variable, rather than hardcoded. Sounds pretty simple, no?[code]....
View 4 RepliesI'm using AS2, and trying to use AS2's packages for the first time, so I can organize my .as files properly. I'm running into some problems though I've got some classes that extend MovieClip, and I've put the class names in the Linkage>Class fields. When I publish, though, I get the error: The class or interface 'ClassName' could not be loaded. anyone know what I'm doing wrong? I tried importing the classes on the main timeline, and even including the directories of those classes on the classpaths list, but no dice
View 1 RepliesI was working with a sample code and when I do a 'cntrl + ENTER' I get a 'Type was not found or was not a compile-time constant: LoginEvent' error I also get the same error for the other events of 'RoomEvent' and 'XIFFErrorEvent'. My source files 'Test.FLA' and 'Test.AS' are located here: 'xiff_3_0_0src' whereas the various packages refered to in the source file are located here: 'xiff_3_0_0srcorgigniterealtimexiff'. My import statements are as follows:
import flash.display.MovieClip; import org.jivesoftware.xiff.conference.Room; import org.jivesoftware.xiff.core.JID; import org.jivesoftware.xiff.core.XMPPSocketConnection; import org.jivesoftware.xiff.events.LoginEvent; import org.jivesoftware.xiff.events.RoomEvent; import org.jivesoftware.xiff.events.XIFFErrorEvent;
i have the following AS class file:
package {
public class DropImage {
[code].....
I would like to know how can I install a library packages to a Flash project. I am using Adobe Flash CS4 and the library I'm trying to include is in AS3. The library can be found on [URL].
