ActionScript 3.0 :: When Change The Publish Setting , Part Of The Script Does Not Work?

I downloaded this free flash website template for building my website, all the actionscript in the template in AS3, i tried using xml flash - photogallery (for which i found the tutorial on this website.) in my website, but while publishing the site, it gives error, i guess it might be compatibility issue as the script that i found on the website might be in AS2 and that might be clashing with AS3 script of the template. Coz when i change the publish setting to AS2, the AS3 part of the script does not work. Individually both script in their respective separate files work but when combined together the site goes bonkers. as i want the photogallery part exactly as it is shown on this site which is with the thumbnail preview.
Why wont AS3 work with any of the combo boxes text boxes button etc? swithcing the publsih settings from AS2 to 3how can i get these to work? and why are they still avalible formthe components menu when you in AS 3 publish settings if they dont work?
I am using Flash CS4 on Windows XP x64 and onion skinning does not work when publish setting are set to Actionscript 3. Is there a workaround for this or am I just SOL?

i am trying to make a custom class that has a small number of variables but I can't seem to get the array part to work.[code]I can't seem to get it to work. I can set and access the other variables OK its just the array thats giving me problems.
I'm unable to make it work :Flash exports the first frame in the SWF file as a PNG file, unless you mark a different keyframe for export by entering the #Static frame label.When publishing the fla, the png is build from the frame that is currently displayed in flash (if my timeline is at frame 3, frame 3 get exported)

I do not understand why, whith the API Explorer works fine, but whit my PHP call does not.
I have a file I am working on that was coded in AS1 and I need to Publish in AS2 (so I can incorporate an AS2 Gallery I have). When I change the publish settings to AS2 I get errors on a couple pieces of code. I will paste them below and attach an Error Log txt file as well.
I built a site, and most of the content is pulling from an XML file. I think format some of that text with a css style sheet. When I publish this out on a powerbook running 10.5 with the first release of flash cs4 it works.But when I try to publish the same file on a new macbook pro or iMac the css doesn't work for me. Has anyone run into this kind of problem before?

I'm using Flash CS4, and a template that I got from a friend to create a website.The template I have uses this "man figure" on the right side of the file. I want to make it so that this pictures loads a different picture each time the page refreshes. I'm working on some optimisation techniques to allow Flash for export my .swf in various file sizes.I need to export the same .swf in a high quality and a lower quality version; so I normally just alter the JPEG quality manually.But I was wondering if there is a method using AS3 that allows me to adjust the JPEG quality dynamically? Is it possible to change the transparancy of part of the image to have it fade into another in flash? or it must be done in photoshop. It was advertising some cream or something. there's a picture with wrinkles skin and when you scroll your mouse over it the part above the mouse remain the same but in bottom it's a different picture, does anyone know how to do that?
Is there a way to change the color of just part of a movie clip? For example, if you had a space ship composed of a movie clip that uses several colors and you would like to change the color of the just the nose of the space ship, is there a way to do that? That is to say can you replace one just the pixels of one color with the pixels of another color.
I essentially have some game pieces that I would like to change to different colors for different computer players without drawing all the pieces again for each of 10 different colors. But I don't want to change the color of an entire game piece--just part of it.

Is it possible to change the publish settings - specifically, the file path and name of the exported swf - using Actionscript? Or must they always be set in the Publish Settings dialogue box? Nothing I've seen indicates it can be done, but I thought I'd make sure.
I am using actionsript 3 and flex 3.5. Is there any way to change the font color of a part of text in TextArea control without using "htmlText" property?
For example I have a string "dog, cat, fish". I want to change the color of "cat" word to red.
I have tried changing all the styles associated with the combobox (borderColor, etc), and set borderStyle to none (which made the border go away around the dropdown menu) but I can't for the life of me get the border that's around the main part of the combobox to go away or change color. I skinned the button to get it to be red, but I just can't figure out how to change that last detail.
I am working on a flash project that was created with the publish setting of Flash 5, however I need to update this flash and the publish setting for the update requires it to be Flash 8, actionscript 2. I have been trying to figure this out for weeks, and even asked on the adobe site, but no help. I can play and view the swf while the publish setting is in flash 5, everything works (the text shows and rollover works and the audio), however when I change it to flash 8, the audio works and the text is there, but when I put my cursor over the text the rollover images do not appear. I have an array that I have set up that would go with a series of movie clips, and I am trying to combine them with functions that upload xml pictures--firstImage(), secondImage(), and so forth.Here is the array that I have:

It enables and disables the movieclips depending on which one is clicked.
I want to make the xml functions (firstImage(),secondImage()...) go with the buttons in sequence. So once btn1 gets pressed the firstImage() xml function gets called.
When I start the application and press Tab to cycle through controls, the focus jumps to the first text box, then to the first radio button of the first TestComponent, and then directly to the last textbox missing the second and the third TestComponents.
