ActionScript 3.0 :: Xml Length With Dynamic Buttons?
Dec 21, 2009
I'm trying read xml from flash within a class. The only thing that's missing is creating as many buttons as the length of xml. The xml length works well in the function that loads the xml. When I put the xml length in the function on the buttons, it is equal to 0. How can I make all function read the value of xml length?

I'm using this script to go between sections with a fade out before loading the next section...
Code: stop(); menuButton1.onRelease = function() {-code]..... which works great, playing the "out" fade-out before loading the next section, but if for example the fade-out takes 8secs, if someone presses one of the other buttons before its got to the end, it plays from the "out" label again. So if someone gets inpatient and just starts clicking away they will just keep looping the fade-out and nothing will load.
Is there a way to disable the buttons after pressing for long enough for the fade-out, but then become active again?
Got a problem with dynamic textfield length. I have a flash movie which is loading text from an external text file. I have drag the dynamic text field and make its width equal to the movie length (say:550pxl) so that it covers the entire stage. I have given motion tween to this dynamic single line text field. So, that whatever the content is there in the external textfile will scroll from left to right. Now for a single line it is ok, but if there are lot of content which would exceed one line length then what to do? So, I need a script so that, the length of the singleline-textfield would be dynamically changed with the textlength, the content of which is being updated from an external file using the LoadVariable syntax. I am using Flash5.
Am trying to create a scrolling sidebar(top to bottom). Within this sidebar, dynamic textFields are being created and populated with XML. The XML is of "Sporting Events". Within each "Sporting Event" 3 variables exist, Name, Location & Date. What I've got, is AS loading the XML and populating ONE "Sporting Event" (3 textFields with name, location & date). I have to specify the position on stage of the textFields, not very dynamic if i'm to have numerous, but they work.
What has me contemplating jumping off the roof right now, is trying to understand how I'm to create an infinite number of textFields (only room for 10 "Sporting Events" (30 total textFields) on stage at a time), and have them continuously load the XML with different "Sporting Events". As they scroll off the stage, either they unload, remove, die or however's best.
I've tried creating an array and inserting the textFields into it, then running it through a for loop to load the XML. I can't get it to work properly, because I don't understand how to create infinite textFields, increment the XML and load it to the next available textField.
On my project, I have a dynamic textfield inside a movieclip. The textfield loads XML text. How can I set the dynamic textfield length(width) based on how much text is typed on the xml file?
I am loading some XML into a dynamic text field Actionscript Code: texts_mc.desc_txt.text = xmlList[0].desc; I need to limit its length to 75 characters which is about half the length of the last line of text. Is there a way to do that? I have been looking in the docs and tried stuff with String.substr but I could not get it to work at all.
Okay what I after is how to detect the length of the string populated from array...then auto rescale the height of the title_mc as shown in my AS as well as the dynamic created textfield ..so the textfield will display long string + "newline" for long string...(autowrapper)..
Let's say I have array foo and a positive integer y, where foo.length > y.I want to remove elements from foo so that foo.length becomes y (or very close to it).Also, I need to preserve the first and last element of foo. The indices of the removed elements must be spaced apart as equally as possible. Foo can be sliced, or it can be used to create a new array.
Example: if foo = [a,b,c,d,e,f,g,1,2,3,4,5] and y = 6, then trimmedfoo could be [a,c,e,g,2,4,5] or maybe [a,c,e,2,4,5], but not [a,c,e,g,2,4] because the last element of foo is missing.
Is there any way to determine if a (anonymous) function has defined the ...(rest) parameter in ActionScript 3? I know there's the function.length property, but it only counts the explicitly defined arguments.
I have a movie in which buttons are created dynamically:
[Code]....
But, I want the "hit" area of the buttons to be the same length as linkName, because right now, the button extends way beyond the text, which doesn't look that nice. I've tried both using "autoSize" and creating a movieclip in the hit area
I can't get the code to "know" which of the dynamic thumbnails has been clicked (by "know", I mean return an index value, say 0 through 7 if there are 8 projects, that I can use to access that particular project in the array of 8 projects in the rest of the code)... So if the third movieclip thumbnail were clicked, I'd like "2" to come up somehow... I've tried this code, which is kind of lame, I know, based off of the idea of each of the thumbnail movieclips' names ending in their index number:
Code: //"this" is the button that was pressed; would return a string ending in //thumberMC_<number of whichever movieclip thumb was clicked> var: testString:String = this;
[code]....
Lastly, there's a dynamic textfield I'm trying to create that never shows up for some reason. Again, you could see in the FLA (in the "createDrawer" function around line 424).
I am using buttons with a dynamic textfield and a function to set the label for various different buttons:
public function setLabel(thisLabel:String) { visibleLabel.text = thisLabel; }
I set a label for each button:
btn_mc.button1.setLabel("2 | Al Sabkha Bus Station - Al Qusais Police Housing");
I have a dynamic textfield ... myText ... which I would like to use as a page title ... so once the button has been clicked, the dynamic textfield should update with the label of the button clicked.
All I want to do is add text from my string to dynamic text field when I click dynamic buttons. What should the as code be for this? Here is my code. Right now I just have the click returning another shape.
I am using Flash CS5 AS3. I have some code that makes a group of buttons from a css and xml file. I am trying to access individual buttons (for tweening/animating) but cant seem to find out which button is which and how to reference it. [code]...
I am trying to dynamcally create several buttons using the Flash API. The following code hnts at the concept. But I can't sem to dynamically name and create the MovieClip since the attachMovieClip() method does not seem to exist in Actionscript 3.
I have been in the habit of making buttons with a dynamic text field. This way assigning a value to the var property of the text field would allow me to reuse the button symbol and assign different text to each. In AS3 it looks like the text field Var property does not exist any longer. Does anyone have a suggestion for a work around? I would like to avoid having to make a new symbol for each button.
I am currently working on a publications page, where i get the buttons dynamically from a xml-file. Everything is working so far, but the buttons are not showing up. I traced around a little bit and I found out, that the button is created and all that, but the text field is simply not showing. I used a predefined button mc, but creating "on the fly" would be more handy for me. Why the buttons are not showing up???
This is ActionScript Code: function createButton(bLabel:String, yPos:int, xPos:int, id:int):void { var button:MovieClip = new MovieClip(); var buttonL:TextField = new TextField(); //var button:pubButton = new pubButton(); button.name = "button"+String(id); [Code] .....
I'm having some problems on how to reference dynamically placed buttons. I am building a shopping cart and for every item in the cart a movieclip is duplicated and next to this movieclip I duplicate a few buttons (to delete and add an item)This is the code:
Code: var id=0; //this value normally comes from the database var amount = 10;//this value normally comes from the database
So far when you hover over a piano key, its note name is displayed in an LCD screen with a dynamic text field. I know theres got to be a way to write a function that applies to all notes but so far I've written a function for every key! eg.
keyboard_mc.A0_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOU SE_OVER, noteOn); function noteOn(event:MouseEvent):void {
