ActionScript :: Library For Drawing Resizing Moving Shapes And Text?
Nov 6, 2011
I know Sprite.graphics is pretty easy to use, but I was wondering if there is any ready made libraries for drawing, resizing, moving, layering, etc.. of various display elements? Also, stuff like tool selection, maybe some effects, premade shapes. Anything you would recommend?

(MX2004)I have made a 'whiteboard', users can draw on it, change width of pen, clear it.
I need to:
1. allow users to add text as well as lines
2. allow them to add a circle or a square
3. clear last stroke/shape
4. save the drawing
5. email it or print it

I have a question about shapes (i mean the flash.display.Shape class). Is it possible to import Shapes directly from the library as Shapes and not as Sprites/MovieClips? Shapes are supposed to be faster than MovieClips/Sprites, right? So why is it only possible to import MCs/Sprites from the library? I understand that generally shapes could be created solely by actionscript, but in my case the shape comprises of many points and is curved - so it's quite infeasible.
Is there maybe some sort of plugin to generate code that would draw the desired shape from a drawn shape in CS4? And a last one: Are there any benchmarks out there for performance comparison between sprites/mcs/shapes? How much performance do i loose by using a sprite instead of a shape?

I have a movie clip named "shapes" that I use as a pseudo-background for my .swf, I alter the color of the movieclip by using the following code;
on (press) {
var colorful = new Color("_root.shapes");
colorful.setRGB(0x003366);
}
So that each section of my site has a unique color. The problem is I want to publish this as fullscreen (Publish Settings, set Dimensions to "Percent" and Width and Height to 100). For this to look right I need the movieclip "shapes" to expand to 100%.

I want to develop an image editing application in Flex 4. My initial requirement is to draw various shapes like Line, Rectablge, Triangle, Circle, Star etc in appication. I want to facilitate user to draw shapes using rubber banding like professional applications do.
All shapes would be vector and should look smooth in an size. So, can't use bitmap and scale them.
What are better methods to achieve this?

I have a code, that draws a horizontal line, then it turns into a slope, and at the end of the slope it draws a circle. Here's a code:
Code:
var xspeed:Number = 1; // defines increments for x of slope
var yspeed:Number = 2; // defines increments for y of slope
var hspeed:Number = 5; // horizontal line increments
[Code]....
Create document 800x700 and put this code into main timeline. Now test movie As you can see, everything works great. But there is a problem. The circle is being drawn at 0 degree angle. But I want the circle to match the angle of the slope, so it looks like the slope and the circle are both at the same angle.

I have 2 shapes drawn with the drawing api - the points are stored in an array like this...
private var shape_points : Array = [ [81,61],[81,46],[84,43],[84,0],[11,0],[0,5],[0,48],[69,48],[81,61 ] ];
Both shapes have the same number of points. I need to tween the points from one shape to the other using tweenlite/max or tweener.

If I want to draw the stroke of a square just using actionscripting, I can (i.e moveto()).That will just show the stroke of a square as soon as I play the .SWF file.Let's say I want to animate the drawing of the stroke of a square from one point to the next. This way when I play the .SWF file, it will show the square being made. How would I go about doing so?

One thing that seems particularly easy to do in the Flash IDE but difficult to do with code is to outline an organic shape. In the IDE you can just use the inkbucket tool to draw a stroke around something. Using nothing but code it seems much trickier. One method I've seen is to add a glow filter to the shape in question and just mess with the strength. But what if i want to only show the outline?What I'd like to do is to collect all of the points that make up the edge of the shape and then just connect the dots. I've actually gotten so far as to collect all of the points with a quick and dirty edge detection script that I wrote. So now I have a Vector of all the points that makeup my shape. How do I connect them in the proper sequence so it actually looks like the original object?[code]

I am building a diagramming tool using Adobe Flex 3. I am about to implement connector lines and I have a question.
Imagine I have 2 squares at random positions on the canvas. I need to draw an arrowed connector line between them. I need it to tend to the target square's center but end on its border.
How do I find out the exact points between which to draw the line?

I am simply trying to draw a rectangle inside of a panel using flex4. I am using spark instead of mx. It complains about addchild being replaced by addelement; however, addelement expects type ivisualcomponent. I think sprite should be of that type; however, it reports an error when trying to use the below code... I have tried a few different ways. I think I am missing something very basic about flex 4.

I want to draw lines to make a region so that anything inside that region is deleted. The Case : You could say that there are many movieclips in stage but when I just selected by drawing circle or something even complex shape to it purposely then anything inside that shape is just gone.

I am in the process of learning AS 3 and Flash on my own and currently using the Actionscript 3.0 Adobe Classroom in a book CS4 version. Having a problem with the Lesson Adendum if anyone has done it. This lession requires you to create two buttons. They both draw shapes on the stage. When one is clicked, it draws Rectangles on the stage following the mouse movement. When the other is clicked, it draws Ellipses instead. The problem I am having is that it just draws rectangles and not ellipses when the 2nd button is clicked. Would be greatful if someone could tell me what i am doirng wrong. Here is the code that I have so far. Apologize for the commented out code, I left it in to show what I have tried:

When you use Graphics object to draw very large shape(that does not fit in 10000x10000 pixels) stroke width may become much wider than value specified in lineStyle function.For now I have only two options:
1. When drawing line you can split it into several lines. However this trick does work only for drawing lines, polylines and polygons. There is no way to apply this to drawing circles and ellipses. Well, we can approximate circles via bezier curves, but this approach seems to be very inefficient.
2. Perform manual cliping. But this require manual implementation of different cliping techiniques, and I think ActionScript does not suit well for this sort of task. And again there is need to approximate visible parts of large circles.

I am making a flash app where I want to have a user defined viewport like the stage in the flash IDE which the user can use to define objects that have a starting postition somerwhere off or on the stage and an ending position either or on or off the stage with the object then tweening between the two points. My question is this: I want the user to be able to define a curved path for the object to tween along. Is there a library of code that I can use to define curved paths for the app?
Ideally I would like something similar to the functionality available in Flash, so a bezier curve sort of path that is subdivided into handles that can be dragged to define the path of the tween. If there isn't an existing library, then do you know of the functions that I would need to define (mathematical equations related to drawing curves etc)?

Here in Flash CS4 Explorer, I have shapes. It's intuitive that I be able to right-click on Scene1, and be able to Insert Shape. Can't. I go to the frame. Can't. I right-click everywhere. I see 'Create Shape', but everywhere I see it, it's grayed out - won't let me.
How do I create new shapes in the graphics folder in the library of a flash cs4 project?

I have two options and I want to know whats faster. I have a pool of 1000 sprites objects in as3 on screen. When its needed each sprite has to resize itself. I can
1- Make each sprite a simple container to use graphics to draw a rectangle, that is, call a 'spriteInstance.graphics.' ,draw the rectangle and on each 'refresh', I do graphics.clear and redraw the rectangle but with the new size, this for each sprite.
or
2- Create each sprite with a border and on each refresh, resize it
Whats better?

I am trying to work with this flash tutorial -[URL] So far it draws with a simple rounded line. I have been extending this application by making the drawing board bigger and other small things. I now want to be able to choose the line style. Currently it is rounded and I want to choose and draw with other shapes - square, forward slash (/), backward slash (). Is this possible? If so, could you explain how I could go about it?

i have this problem where I want something (in this case a bitmap) to be positioned in the top right border of my window. But at the same time, I want to allow resizing the window and I want my bitmap to stay in the corner (i.e. move around with the border). So in my document class, I wrote an EventListener to do the job:
Code:
private function resizeHandler(e:Event) {
bg_img.x = stage.stageWidth - bg_img.width;
bg_img.y = 0;
}
But that doesn't work too well: When I make the window wider, the image moves to far to the right (I think twice as fast as it should), so when I make the window wide enough, the image will eventually be outside of the window. On the other hand, when I make the window higher, the image moves down (I think half as fast as the bottom-border). Through some traces, I found out, that when I resize and don't try to move the image, my MovieClip containing the image stays exactly the same size (even though the stage expands) and that when I try to move the image, the MovieClip gets roughly as wide as the stage.

As the title says, how do you animate the resizing and moving of graphic symbols without making the other objects go invisible? I'm using Flash CS4. Here are the bizarre, unexplainable problems I've had before. First of all, here's my basic scene. It's 6 rectangles and 8 half-circles. [URL]. First thing I tried doing was applying a Classic Tween (since Motion Tween did nothing and Shape Tween was disabled). However, what that did was turn every object in the entire work space into one giant object for no reason at all, which certainly isn't what I wanted. [URL]. What I realized is that in order to avoid having all of the objects merged into one, I had to create a brand new file first. [URL].
Next, I added in a blank keyframe and a Classic Tween while the workspace is still empty. [URL]. Then finally copy/paste the objects into the first frame from the first file: [URL]. Now I paste those shapes again into the target frame and resize one of the diagonal shapes: [URL]. Then I moved that rectangle to a new position: [URL]. However, when I preview the animation, only the animating object shows up... everything else is invisible. [URL]. Also, if I try moving a different object, the rectangle will start spinning for no reason. [URL]. How can I animate this object without making everything else go invisible and keep the object from spinning out of control?

What I'm trying to build is what you could call a scrolling drawing board - just like a drawing board but when the mouse comes close to the edge of the window, it scrolls and lets you continue your drawing. I have no problem creating a drawing board with API, but i can't make it scroll. Usually when i want to scroll a background image i make it move along with the mouse when the cursor is near the edge of the window (for example, if the mouse's coordinates are above a certain number, the background image starts moving in one direction so it "scrolls" in the other direction). So i wanted to do this with the movieclip of the drawing in a drawing board (make it move according to mouse's coordinates near the edge of the window), but when i scroll i have to stop the mouse at the edge of the window because i cant go any further :p so the drawing moves but it stops drawing. Or maybe what i need is some way to draw even when the mouse is not moving.

I have imported a lot of paths from an Adobe Illustrator document right into a flash file. The paths exists as Drawing Objects inside the scene. Using pure actionscript, how can I move a symbol following each of the lines, without using predefined Motion Guides.
EDIT: I've attached the Flash file, full of drawing objects.
http:[url]....
The question is: Are these drawing objects accessible through AS3 or I should convert them to symbols / whatever format necessary.

This is one of those things that seems like it should be really simple but doesn't work.
I'm trying to create a movieClip using the drawing API, but once I do so I can't get it to move with ActionScipt. My code looks (basically) like this:
Code:
drawBox = function (options) {beginFill();
lineStyle(blah);
moveTo(blah);
[Code].....

I have been working with actionscript 2 / xml for quite a while now and this is the first time I have come upon this one. I have one movieclip in the library that I attach using attachmovie for that generic "glassy" vista type look. Only thing is, when I resize it via actionscript, it resizes incorrectly. Flash ells me it's correct via trace, but it obviously isn't. If I delete the border line off of the movieclip, it resizes fine! I have the clip set to none for scale under the properties tab(with the line and fill selected). The line has a gradient but it does the same thing if solid. What I'm wondering is has anyone else run into this and have they found a workaround?
