I want to assign a variable "speed" to a dynamic text field with the instance "spdDisplay" and round it to two decimal places.I'm pretty new to flash but, this seems like it should be easy.Here is the code I have - it does not work

I've a PDF / Word document with arabic copy when I try pasting that text in flash all the joined letters start appearing as individual letters.I've tried the dynamic text box solution in which you create a dynamic text box and assign the text to its variable that doesn't work. But strangely when you write arabic in dynamic text box (with out assigning the text to the variable) and double click to select the text box and its content the text starts appearing fine .. but when published its again all individual letter.

I wanted this to result in dynamic text field displaying
"The banjo has been selected!" but it results in "The [Object MovieClip] has been selected!".
Is String(var) wrong command to use? The only reason I could think why it's not working is, that the variable has been stated as 'MovieClip' instead of Number or Text. What can be done in the case of MovieClip if this is correct?
P.S I'm wondering if there're rules on asking questions on this board... I've asked two for today already and they would be considered pretty 'basic' ones to professionals / experienced users on this board >_<
I am trying to grab a string that is loaded into my dynamic text field and use it as a variable.
The text field is populated when another button is pressed first which says input_txt.text = "myInput"
...I gave my dynamic text field the instance name input_txt
So I wrote out (on a separate button):

Everything works fine, but the dynamic textfield with the var name loadtext is blank. If i set loadtext = i+"loaded" then it just displays "loaded". I know the variable "i" has a value since the rest of the preloader works.

I simply want a dynamic text field that says "Welcome back, <username>" I am doing it right now with a static text field and a dynamic one, but if the username is really short, the whole thing is not centered and looks weird. Optimally, it should all be part of one element on the stage.
View 9 RepliesI'm trying to create a temperature control box for a flash movie and i have it so that two arrows would control the temp, i can't seem to get them to increase the dynamic text field titled target_temp it sets it fine on the first load but then once I try to click the increase arrow the text field doesn't increase, do i need to reload the movie? here is the code I have so far.

View 1 RepliesI'm creating an XML-driven pie chart in AS3 with 2 text boxes in each pie slice. Both text fields are dynamic in the sense that they are populated by the XML doc and then told where to place themselves in the AS3. I've got them both using the same x and y position to place themselves at the moment (which of course puts them right one top of each other), but I'd like to make one of the fields (which acts like a label or a title to the larger number and % text field) place itself in a particular spot around the other text field. The result I'm looking for is to have the smaller "title" text field appear approximately 5 pixels above and left-justified to the larger "percentage" field.
Anyway, here are two sections of code that I've currently got. The first chunk, for the Tags portion, sets the position for the "percentage" text field using a good old x and y method. The second chunk, for Titles, is setting the position for the smaller "title" text.

I'm making a calculator using Flash MX that works the same way as the basic calculator found on windows (not the scientific one). But having the user input a number, store it as a variable, store which function the user wants to perform and clear the text field then store the new input in the same text field as a different variable and multiply or add or divide or subtract the 2 numbers and getting the equals sign to display the answer when clicked is harder than I thought it would be.

Is there a way to pass the textfield A text to a dynamic text input (flash) as I'd like to use the font embedding flash offers. I can make it work when loading a value from a txt file but I'm not sure how to access the value identified above as KitGroupID_16_TextOption_38 and make it appear in a dynamic input box. Eventually I might want to have 3 font choices for the user but I'd like to just see if I can get this working properly first.
Is it possible to login through flash using one Dynamic Text Field and one Input Text Field and no buttons? If so how? I have seen many tutorials dealing with logging in to PHP using flash but it requires you to make your own php scripts which i am not familiar with. I have a movie where a variable named daysleft will be loaded from an external text file into a dynamic text box, this bit works fine. But I then need the movieclip "numbers" to gotoAndStop to the frame number imported via the variable daysleft. Although daysleft displays on the screen a trace(daysleft); says the variable is undefined.
