ActionScript 2.0 :: Assign A Link To A Variable In A Dynamic Textbox?

i recently made a streaming mp3 player in flash. im pleased with my work, but i have one problem. i wanted to add a way to download the song that is currently playing. im using xml as the playlist. right now, i have:

i want to be able to click on the text and download the current song. so:

that doenst work. i was wondering if there was any way to assign a link to a variable in a dynamic textbox.

I thought the higher the depth number the closer to the viewer it was? I have created a movie which pulls back info from a database, on the original movie, once all the data was loaded, I created the required number of dynamic text boxes on the _root and everything worked perfectly. I then decided that I would need to display other information on other movie clips. So I decided to turn the movie into a movie clip, so that I could create other movie clips and load these as needed. I created a new blank movie, attached a blank movieclip (depth 0) as a container for the movie clips that will hold the different data.
I then used attachMovie(depth 1) to attach the original movieclip, which holds the database info. I then changed the original movie, so that it would create the text boxes in this movie clip(depth 3), so that when I decided to load another movie, I don't have to clear up text boxes on the root. When I run the movie, I get the background image for the data movie clip, but I don't see the text. I used trace to make sure that the text boxes were being created and the text values were assigned and they are. So why can't i see the text?

Here is the situation: I have an XML document which I rip through using a for Loop, and I place the data into an array. From there I tell the data where to go. I have an attribute in my XML called 'link' which contains a URL, now I want to spit that out into a separate textbox and have it also link to the given URL. I have the URL stored in the array just fine, and I can even spit the URL into the textfield, my only question is how to make it link instead of just being normal text?
I hope I explained this well, but the basic gist of it is I have everything working except for adding the hyperlink.

I have a problem: I'm trying to have a dynamic text box (htmlText) with a number of links (all dynamically generated themselves) within. I need some way that the html link can detect the user mousing over/off of it and fire off a function (to bring up a tooltip elsewhere on the interface, specifically). Is this at all possible in ActionScript 1.0?

OK, I have my php and MySQL working fine. I'm pulling the data. I found how to format the data that is returned in the php as XML. My problem is I can't get my Flash textbox to load the variable from the php file. Like most things, this is probably very easy if you know how.My flash dynamic textbox is given the variable name topTeacher. From what I understand, I don't need to worry about an instance name.My php file looks like this:

My employer is making a flash card and they want to customize it by passing a variable in the url that links to the card in order to fill in a dynamic text box.So the URL will have ?me=Bob on the end to but Bob's name inside the card.I've done this for them in the past but that was AS2 and I'm trying to use AS3 for this card. oward a code snippet or tutorial on the best way to accomplish this. If we could use an embedded font that would be a bonus.

I've seen similar threads but couldn't find one with the exact same issue. I've a PDF / Word document with arabic copy when I try pasting that text in flash all the joined letters start appearing as individual letters.I've tried the dynamic text box solution in which you create a dynamic text box and assign the text to its variable that doesn't work. But strangely when you write arabic in dynamic text box (with out assigning the text to the variable) and double click to select the text box and its content the text starts appearing fine .. but when published its again all individual letter.

here's what I'm talking about Here is the FLA file I have three checkboxes (not mx components) and a dynamic textbox on which the "showtext" variable is assigned. I want the dynamic text box to display the labels attached to checkboxes when they return a value of 1 : (box one is checked, box2 isn't so the label doesn't appear, and so forth.)
I figured I need to use an array for the checkbox labels. I probably need a loop that verifies which checkboxes are checked (value=1). and use an array to combine the checked boxes with their respective label.

I've seen alot of instructions online on how to assign a hyperlink to an image. Alot of them say to convert the image to a symbol first and then add the appropriate Actionscript code (getUrl). I'm just wondering if there is a way to do it without converting it to a symbol (converting it to a symbol seems to add an artifact to one of the borders of the pic). Does anyone know if this can be done? Or must all images be converted to symbols to get links assigned to them?

I created an input text box. But when i try to go and click on the "variable" option to assign a variable i get this error: "This feature is not supported by ActionScript 3.0. To use this feature, you must target ActionScript 1.0-2.0." How can i do that? By the way, the variable textbox where you need to enter the variable name is gray. I can't write in it. I'm using flash CS4.

What I want to do is load an XML file into AS3 and then use two of the attributes of a node in order to assign them to variables. Here is what I have so far:[code]As you can see, I've got it to a point where I can trace the variables in the function correctly. But, as I'm sure you're all aware, I am unable to use those variables anywhere outside of the processXML function.

I'm working on a project using google maps. For part of it the user must enter coordinates and click a button in order to add a marker to a map. The code I have written so far allows this to be done once:

As it is the only one marker can be added as it keeps getting replaced. I want to make it so that the variable name changes each time a marker is to be added.

I'm in the process of building a thumbnail image gallery using actionscript and xml. I have an array in flash that loads in the XML data and then assigns each node from the array to either a movieclip, dynamic text field, etc. My problem lies in trying to assign a variable (in flash) to the value of my URL from XML, which in theory should simply grab the URL string from my XML file. Keep in mind, everything works fine except for assigning a string value from xml to my variable "linkVar" in Flash. Please pay close attention to "linkVar" in the code that follows.

I know that e.currentTarget.id is of type Label. All I want is to make a reference variable so I don't have to keep typing long names.

I used Digitalosophy's tute to create my Flash form using ASP to write to an Access DB with 1 deviation. In addition to 5 text inputs I used a Flash component list box. It is the only element that is passing empty data to the DB. I have both label & data fields filled out and I am using the following AS on the submit button

I am guessing I need to use AS to assign a variable to the list box component as it only has an instance name field, unlike the dynamic text fields. Not having any luck googling the correct syntax though as most examples are of querying a data base not writing.
