ActionScript 2.0 :: How To Assign Text Generically To Dynamic TextBox
Oct 23, 2008I know that I can't asisgn text generically to a dynamic text box like this:

But is there a method that would work similarly to this?

Jan 8, 2003I thought the higher the depth number the closer to the viewer it was? I have created a movie which pulls back info from a database, on the original movie, once all the data was loaded, I created the required number of dynamic text boxes on the _root and everything worked perfectly. I then decided that I would need to display other information on other movie clips. So I decided to turn the movie into a movie clip, so that I could create other movie clips and load these as needed. I created a new blank movie, attached a blank movieclip (depth 0) as a container for the movie clips that will hold the different data.
I then used attachMovie(depth 1) to attach the original movieclip, which holds the database info. I then changed the original movie, so that it would create the text boxes in this movie clip(depth 3), so that when I decided to load another movie, I don't have to clear up text boxes on the root. When I run the movie, I get the background image for the data movie clip, but I don't see the text. I used trace to make sure that the text boxes were being created and the text values were assigned and they are. So why can't i see the text?

Feb 7, 2005i recently made a streaming mp3 player in flash. im pleased with my work, but i have one problem. i wanted to add a way to download the song that is currently playing. im using xml as the playlist. right now, i have:

i want to be able to click on the text and download the current song. so:

Nov 23, 2011I've seen similar threads but couldn't find one with the exact same issue. I've a PDF / Word document with arabic copy when I try pasting that text in flash all the joined letters start appearing as individual letters.I've tried the dynamic text box solution in which you create a dynamic text box and assign the text to its variable that doesn't work. But strangely when you write arabic in dynamic text box (with out assigning the text to the variable) and double click to select the text box and its content the text starts appearing fine .. but when published its again all individual letter.

Jun 12, 2010I'm tryin to build my first button in flash and flex, so I have build my movieclip in flash with a simple animation and a TFL text with instance name 'caption'
I have assigned a class to the symbol and, in flex i wrote this:

I start the movie and I see 'HELLO' on my button, WOW! but If I go over the symbol and then out the text change again to 'TEXT' (the default i wrote in flash)

Mar 15, 2003I am using Flash5 to build a site. I have a main page with navigation bar to get around. The word "menu" is sitting on the right of the stage which contains the actions:
on(press) {
gotoandplay("expand")
}
which opens the nav bar on the bottom of screen. This works fine. However, the text was blurry on my site, so I switched the text from static to dynamic text, which solved the blurriness problem.
BUT, after switching the text, I discovered my "menu' button is not behaving as before.
Can one assign actions to dynamic text? If not, what do I do to still have legible text? Again, the menu bar and other links were working fine, but when switched to dynamic text, none of the navigation works.

Mar 23, 2004I searched the forum first, found a lot of answers, but not for this question.I need to display a dynamic text in a textbox. In my txt file there are some "&" and "+" characters that need to be displayed. So I URL encoded these characters. "&" becomes %26 and "+" becomes %2b. Strange thing is: it works perfect for the "+", but the "&" won't show nowhere...
Changing my txt file from Unicode into UTF 8 doesn't.Tried using System.useCodepage = true;

This has been great and has give me some ideas, but I can't manipulate it to do what I want. May 16, 2010I am currently working on a project for my computer programming course, creating an rpg game, and have already ran into a problem i've spent a few hours trying to fix; I have an input textbox with the instance name of "inputname". The player is supposed to put his name here and then click a button, instance name continuebtn, that will change to frame two on the scene. Frame two has a dynamic textbox with the name of "greetingtb".
greetingtb already says 'ahh so your name is ' and after that I would like to add the name that was placed into inputname. What I thought would work was create a variable with the name of playername. I dont know if i wrote this right, i declared it as my first thing in an action layer:

Oct 9, 2009i think i read an article before about google or some SE teaming up with the Adobe Flash Developers in an effort to include flash pages into search results by allowing the text inside SWFs to be read by the SEs... not really sure about the details, but its something to that extent..
that's good news but what i would like to know is if spam bots can do the same and read text inside an SWF file?for example, if i have an SWF file with a dynamic textbox that has some text that contains an email address, will spam bots be able to read it?if this is the case, then i will just make the email address an image..but the benefits of having the email address inside a dynamic textbox is that it's selectable; making it easier for visitors to just copy the address as opposed to having to look at the image and type it manually...

3) The font is Trebuchet MS - BOLD. (example... can be any bold font)
4) Using "Character Embedding", I've embedded numerals, for example.
5) In first frame, I put the code: textBox.text = "1";
6) If I compile at this point, the "1" will appear.
7) BUT.... if I put a static text box with anything typed, using Trebuchet MS - REGULAR, and compile the FLA again, the number 1 WON'T appear!

basically sending and recieving variables from a php page. I want to be able to specify what my textbox on frame 5 says in the onLoad statement. Is this possible?
Currently the only way I have been able to get the text to display is either to use the textbox variable and declare that in the onload statement, or to put textbox.text = mylogin.message; on the actual frame.I doubt there is a way to do it, because the actual textbox hasn't be created yet, but if there were a way, that would be nice.
