View 1 RepliesI am new to action script , I am using Flash CS3-pro
I wanted to assign a value to a text box- dynamic :so I create a dynamic text box with instance name : value_text
when I assign the value frameRate to the text box [code]...
I am getting the following error message.
" 1067: Implicit coercion of a value of type Number to an unrelated type flash.text:TextField."
I want to assign a variable "speed" to a dynamic text field with the instance "spdDisplay" and round it to two decimal places.I'm pretty new to flash but, this seems like it should be easy.Here is the code I have - it does not work
Code: Select allvar speed:Number = angle/2.1;
trace(speed.toFixed(2));
spdDisplay.text = (speed);
[code].....
I thought the higher the depth number the closer to the viewer it was? I have created a movie which pulls back info from a database, on the original movie, once all the data was loaded, I created the required number of dynamic text boxes on the _root and everything worked perfectly. I then decided that I would need to display other information on other movie clips. So I decided to turn the movie into a movie clip, so that I could create other movie clips and load these as needed. I created a new blank movie, attached a blank movieclip (depth 0) as a container for the movie clips that will hold the different data.
I then used attachMovie(depth 1) to attach the original movieclip, which holds the database info. I then changed the original movie, so that it would create the text boxes in this movie clip(depth 3), so that when I decided to load another movie, I don't have to clear up text boxes on the root. When I run the movie, I get the background image for the data movie clip, but I don't see the text. I used trace to make sure that the text boxes were being created and the text values were assigned and they are. So why can't i see the text?
How can I create a for loop so I can use different values of the same node? So I want to count the "<Text>" nodes of the XML and use their different values on different dynamic textfields. Note that I have mutliple Movieclips on the stage with the same amount of textfields and I would like to include them in the loop, so I named them mc1 mc2 etc.
[Code]..
How can i get a single value extracted from a XML where i have this value several times?
consider this
Code: Select all<pnode>
<node>
[code]....
I want a code that output to me the result in <cnode> for example but just one time.
If i do "Xml.node.cnode;", the output will be
Code: Select all<cnode>Aloc</cnode>
<cnode>Aloc</cnode>
And i need this output
Code: Select allAloc
I have done this same thing in ActionScript 3, but am not familiar with ActionScript 2, which I am forced to use for this project. I am loading products into a SWF via XML and attempting to add a click event to each dynamically-created movieclip. Simply tracing the text from a node in XML will do for now. I'd like to assign a property called "desc" or "description" to each movieclip and have it trace that property's value when clicked. Here is the relevant portion of my code as it stands[code]...
View 1 RepliesI am creating a game in Flash 8 with AS 2 and i have few questions to ask.First of all, i am stuck for 2 days at creating a Laser Beam from tower to the target.I searched all internet for solutions but i can't really find one, so i'll try posting questions myself..First i tryed to create and effectHolder into which every laser beam was created, because it seems i can create only one line in each movieClip.[code]This was triggered eveytime it had a target.With every tower that fired a laser i created it was getting more lag, so i tryed selfdestructing after few time.[code]The problem is that i didn't know how to pass the coordonates of the tower and the target to the MovieClip so it knows where to create the line.[code]how to create that line ("laser beam") for each tower, without lagging so much.
View 11 RepliesI have a dynamic text on the stage which gets updated (shows numbers) when some buttons are pressed.I just need to know if it is possible to show the first dynamic textfield in another dynamic textfield.Lets say the first dynamic textfield called "price" and the second one called "price2". when a button is pressed, the first dynamic textfield "price" will show a number. is it possible to show whatever is shown in the "price" in "price2" ?
View 1 RepliesI'm creating an XML-driven pie chart in AS3 with 2 text boxes in each pie slice. Both text fields are dynamic in the sense that they are populated by the XML doc and then told where to place themselves in the AS3. I've got them both using the same x and y position to place themselves at the moment (which of course puts them right one top of each other), but I'd like to make one of the fields (which acts like a label or a title to the larger number and % text field) place itself in a particular spot around the other text field. The result I'm looking for is to have the smaller "title" text field appear approximately 5 pixels above and left-justified to the larger "percentage" field.
Anyway, here are two sections of code that I've currently got. The first chunk, for the Tags portion, sets the position for the "percentage" text field using a good old x and y method. The second chunk, for Titles, is setting the position for the smaller "title" text.
//evaluate tags
private function evaluateTags():void{
for (s=0; s

I have 3 movieclips on stage (inn0, inn1, inn2), each have a textfield as child. I want to do something like:
Code:
for (var i:int = 0; i < arrayWords.length; i++){
"inn"+i.botNewTexto.text= arrayWords[0]
}
I can do:
inn0.botNewTexto.text= arrayWords[0]
inn1.botNewTexto.text= arrayWords[1]
inn2.botNewTexto.text= arrayWords[2]
But want to do it dynamically.How can I do that assignment?
Currently I'm using javascript which works fine to pass text from textfield A to textfield B:
Code:
window.onload=function()
{
document.forms.form1.shirtText.value=document.forms.form1.KitGroupID_16_TextOption_38.value
}
Is there a way to pass the textfield A text to a dynamic text input (flash) as I'd like to use the font embedding flash offers. I can make it work when loading a value from a txt file but I'm not sure how to access the value identified above as KitGroupID_16_TextOption_38 and make it appear in a dynamic input box. Eventually I might want to have 3 font choices for the user but I'd like to just see if I can get this working properly first.
Is it possible to login through flash using one Dynamic Text Field and one Input Text Field and no buttons? If so how? I have seen many tutorials dealing with logging in to PHP using flash but it requires you to make your own php scripts which i am not familiar with. Can some one tell me how to do this with PHPBBs existing php scripts... I want to be able to login thorugh a Input Text Field box and have it verify it in PHP and also be able to register and view other PHP info such as users online and FAQ..
View 2 RepliesI want to have it so that when text is entered into an input text field, the cursor advances automatically to the next text field. The text fields are nameed box1, box2 and so on, and are custom classes called Box. So far I have:
[Code]....
How do I get from a string variable to the stage.focus?
I am attempting to use a loop to create text field with the loop's current value. The code looks like this:
ActionScript Code:
for (var i = 1; i<=10; i++) {
var 'nameHolder'+[i]+'_txt':TLFTextField = new TLFTextField();
'nameHolder'+[i]+'_txt'.x = 40
'nameHolder'+[i]+'_txt'.y = 40
'nameHolder'+[i]+'_txt'.text = "Hello World"
}
So essentially what it should do is create 10 text fields at 40, 40 with the text: "Hello World".
creating dynamic TextInput fields in a function. Need to get the values of those fields in another function.
for(var i:int=0;i<answers.length;i++)
{
txtbox = new spark.components.TextInput();
var lblBox:spark.components.Label = new spark.components.Label();
[code].....
i have a problem with the line space flash creates when a dynamic text is loaded in a dynamic text field on the stage i put a dynamic textFild with istance name "profile_text". then im loadin in it a text. my text is written in the Notepad like this
[Code]...
i already set a Textformat to my dynamic text with i tryied to play with the "Leading".. but i think it something dealing with paragraph. how i can decrease spacing between paragraphs??
All I want to do is add text from my string to dynamic text field when I click dynamic buttons. What should the as code be for this? Here is my code. Right now I just have the click returning another shape.

I've seen similar threads but couldn't find one with the exact same issue. I've a PDF / Word document with arabic copy when I try pasting that text in flash all the joined letters start appearing as individual letters.I've tried the dynamic text box solution in which you create a dynamic text box and assign the text to its variable that doesn't work. But strangely when you write arabic in dynamic text box (with out assigning the text to the variable) and double click to select the text box and its content the text starts appearing fine .. but when published its again all individual letter.
View 1 RepliesWhat I'm trying to do is to write something in an input field and then it should show up in a dinamic field. I can make this happen, but the problem is that the dinamic field shows its new text in the same format as the Input field. For example, the input text is written in TimesNewRoman and the dinamic text is in Arial, but when the dinamic text shows the input, the text is still in TimesNewRoman when I want it to be in Arial.
View 11 RepliesI'm tryin to build my first button in flash and flex, so I have build my movieclip in flash with a simple animation and a TFL text with instance name 'caption'
I have assigned a class to the symbol and, in flex i wrote this:
package
{
import flash.display.MovieClip;
[Code]....
I start the movie and I see 'HELLO' on my button, WOW! but If I go over the symbol and then out the text change again to 'TEXT' (the default i wrote in flash)
I am using Flash5 to build a site. I have a main page with navigation bar to get around. The word "menu" is sitting on the right of the stage which contains the actions:
on(press) {
gotoandplay("expand")
}
which opens the nav bar on the bottom of screen. This works fine. However, the text was blurry on my site, so I switched the text from static to dynamic text, which solved the blurriness problem.
BUT, after switching the text, I discovered my "menu' button is not behaving as before.
Can one assign actions to dynamic text? If not, what do I do to still have legible text? Again, the menu bar and other links were working fine, but when switched to dynamic text, none of the navigation works.
I am trying to calculate the values on user entered text fields (which only accept numbers) along with the values of user selected combo boxes. I have a function to a button:
reviewQ.calcBtn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, calcAns);
function calcAns(e:MouseEvent):void
{
reviewQ.calcAns_text.text = "Your calculated result is " +
[Code]....
Right now, all I am getting is the actual values entered in the text fields and selected in the combo boxes. How can I get the sum of this values to show on my "calcAns_text.text"?
way to grab an XML attribute, and assign it to a dynamic text box?
View 1 RepliesA scene with many dynamic text and several graphic. Example :
ActionScript Code:
some dynamic texts
hostname.text_ep0.text = "response from AMFPHP";
hostname.text_ep1.text = "response from AMFPHP";
hostname.text_ep2.text = "response from AMFPHP";
my_percentage_bar_ep0._width = "response from AMFPHP";
my_percentage_bar_ep1._width = "response from AMFPHP";
my_percentage_bar_ep2._width = "response from AMFPHP";
But what I want to do now its to associate each label textfield (hostname.text_ep2.text) and let's call them dynamic graphic (my_percentage_bar) to a panel of an accordion component. I drag an accordion on the scene and I want each panel to contain 1 dynamic text and 1 dynamic graphic.
ActionScript Code:
my_acc.createChild(View, "panel_ep0", {label: "Stats from node 0"});
my_acc.createChild(View, "panel_ep1", {label: "Stats from node 1"});
my_acc.createChild(View, "panel_ep2", {label: "Stats from node 2"});
[Code] .....
I dunno wanna put everything in a movieclip and then load the movieclip in the accordion panel
I know that I can't asisgn text generically to a dynamic text box like this:
this["blah"+sumNum].text =
But is there a method that would work similarly to this?
I have a detailed results page to which I want to post all the questions, answers, and whether the user answered correctly or incorrectly. All this information is stored in a multidimensional array and its successfully showing the results via the trace method.
My question is, what is the syntax for populating a dynamic text field with these results? Do I just write out one long line of AS with the newline command to separate the data? How would I go about applying bold to certain parts of the stored data that I will be showing?
Here is current code for my detailed results page:
function showResults(){
trace("Now showing results");
for(var i:Number = 0; i < NumberOfChallenges; i++){ //This calls the length of the original array (not the spliced copy)

I've created this loop to fill some data from a XML file...I can access the data but it doesn't work on my look.I have several movie clip on the stage such as thumb01, thumb03...then I whant to set a dynamic field called thumb01.numero.text with the var imageNumero myImage[i]. attributes.numero; attribute from my XML file but the loop doesn't recognize it...here is my code...
Code:
var xmlData=new XML();
xmlData.ignoreWhite=true;[code]....
I have 2 input textfields on the stage and 1 dynamic textfield.
-input1 is for quantity
-input2 is for page count
When a user enters a number into the page count it makes a calculation and places the outcome into the dynamic textfield. This textfield is for the individual price.All of this so far works. What I want to do now is create another dynamic textfield for the total. So the individual price is multiplied by the quantity and this result is put in the new dynamic text field. I have the code for that working but here is where it gets tricky (for me anyway).The total price is to start off invisible. When I roll over the individual price the total price is to appear (For a test lets just say when I roll over an area the total price appears).To stop cursor flickering this should be done inside a movieclip. So... I have create a movieclip and placed a dynamic textfield inside it. They all have instance names BUT how do I reference it in script?I need to tell the resulting calculation to be placed inside the textfield which is inside the movieclip. If it isn't inside a movie clip I can do it. But how to I reference it when inside one?
[Code]....
the code above outputs exactly what i need it to do to the specific dynamic text fields i've assigned, but i was hoping that there is a way to put this in a FOR loop? this code below works in the output panel
Code:
for (var i:Number=0; i<sC.length(); i++) {
trace(sF.text()[i]);
trace(sC.text()[i]);
}
but i can't get it to work with multiple text fields,
