Feb 22, 2010I have the need to change a variable in a child Flash file.
The setup is a parent Flash file, that has called a child Flash, and placed it in a movieClip.
I can send a variable using Javascript to the parent Flash file, but not directly to the child Flash file. Is there a way that I can access the child Flash file directly with Javascript?
Or do I need to send the variable to the parent Flash file, and then have the parent send the variable to the child Flash file? Is there a sort of dot notation that I can use with Javascript to get to the child Flash file without first accessing the parent, when the child is added to the parent using the loadClip function in flash?

Jan 22, 2010I need to make a flash applet that automatically grabs a specific file on a user's system (iTunes XML file) and auto uploads it to my server. So far I have only been able to accomplish this with a user selecting the file, how to upload a specific file without the user having to go and find it.

Jan 23, 2010I am using FDT for Flex development and when I compile, and it tries to access a flv file, I get the error "cannot access local file". This is obviously a security sandbox thing.Now I tried adding crossdomain.xml to the root and it still makes the same error. I know somehow I need to add to my project use-network=false, but i cant for the life of me work out where the flex compiler additional arguments area is. I know in eclipse how to do it, but with the slightly modified FDT, i havent got a clue

Sep 30, 2010I have a Flash project that plays FLVs from (http://) sources and it works fine when I publish it as AIR 2. I want to save and access my FLVs locally, but I can't seem to get it to work. I don't know if it is a matter of the correct path syntax, I'm also not sure what an Air app sees as a relative path. This is what it looks like for http:

Oct 24, 2011I have searched for this everywhere but it seems like every answer is either overcomplicated or simply does not work, and I know for sure there should be a more simple way of achieving what I need. So, until today, I have always coded from within the timeline. But now I realise why I should code in separate class files. However, I still want to include snippets of code in the timeline for simplicity's sake.

Actionscript 3 :: Access Nested Movieclips In Flash File?
Dec 12, 2011I have an application created in Flash Builder 4 that loads SWFs of flash files and I want to access movie clips within these flash files. I can access top level movie clips using:
var assetName:String = "example_mc";
this._graphics[assetName].addChild(this._customText);
However when I want to access nested movie clips I am unsuccessful, I have tried:
var assetName:String = "example_mc";
var assetName2:String = "example2_mc";
this._graphics[assetName][assetName2].addChild(this._customText);
and I have tried:
MovieClip(DisplayObjectContainer(this._graphics.getChildByName(assetName)).getChildByName(assetName2)).addChild(this._customText);
In addition I tried variants of the square brackets and "getChildByName" but still no success.All moviclips are instantiated in frame 1 of the Flash files?
Edit :I forgot to tweak my error handling so an error would be shown, plus all my tests where not showing text, late afternoon on a Mon is not my brightest hour! ;) I worked it out in the end, the solution was either (as above):
MovieClip(DisplayObjectContainer(this._graphics.getChildByName(assetName)).getChildByName(assetName2)).addChild(this._customText);
Or:
MovieClip(DisplayObjectContainer(this._graphics.getChildByName(assetName))[assetName2]).addChild(this._customText);

Jul 18, 2007i'm trying to access an aspx file which is online. it's suppose to give me an xml data that i will parse and display inside of flash... the wierd thing is this: using any variation of code (using xml, or loadvars) the file loads the xml file and works great from WITHIN the flash authoring environment (when using "test movie") BUT it doesn't work when i run the swf file from its local directory (explorer) or from within a browser. what and why is this?

Jun 27, 2010Someone sent me a .fla file containing several art assets, with instances all configured to be displayed properly and in the right positions. However, since I'm using FlashDevelop with the Flex 4 SDK, I have no idea how to access these instances in code. Some of the objects are MovieClips that I need to modify the size of, and others are Dynamic Text objects that I need to change the display strings of at runtime.

Dec 6, 2009So I have a movie clip associated with an external class in the linkage dialog. I put that movie clip on the stage. I have another external class that contains some code (not for the movie clip but for the stage). When I access the custom properties of the class in the actual flash file (not the external code) everything works fine.For example.myMovieClip.explodeTheCode = true;works in the main movie. However, it doesn't work in the external flash file when I have a reference to that movie clip.myRefToCustomMovieclip.explodeTheCode = true fails!It throws an error. In java, I'd just import the custom class the movie clip is linked to and then I can call all the extra custom methods on the movie clip in the external class I want. However, this does nothing. I still can't access any properties.So my question is, how do I access the custom features of a movie clip (that is linked to a custom class) from an external code file. It works in the movie, but not in the external source code.

I will have either a Flash EXE or AIR application running on a local PC (WinXP). The PC will also have a local Access database. I need my Flash application to get the data from this Access database. How would I do this?
I doubt it can be done with Flash or AIR alone (someone prove me wrong or right), but is there an option for some middle-man application to access the data base and send it on to Flash? How would this work?
Or could I read the MDB file into Flash and parse it myself? is there a library for this?

Secure Access To SWF File Using ASP.NET?
Apr 6, 2010We have a swf file that we want to secure and make available only to authorized users.
I embedded the file in an aspx page and that works fine, since ASP.NET handles the aspx page, I can use ASP.NET authorization features and in the web.config restrict the access to roles="AllowedUsers" for example.
However smart users could still get to the file by accessing directly for example www.mysite/flash.swf. We want to make that kind of access secure.

I want when I click play button on myVideo2.swf the myVideo1.swf would stopped. Bother flash files are in the same folder.
