ActionScript :: Php - AddChild To Stage From Class

May 31, 2011

I am trying to add an object to my main stage via the addChild() method. Normally, when working within the FLA itself, using addChild(myObject) works just fine. However, it does not work within an external AS class.

All of the other tutorials I have found showed me how to do something like this, which is not what I need:

var myMovieClip:MovieClip = new MovieClip();
myMovieClip.addChild(myObject); // Works great, but not what I need

ActionScript 3.0 :: AddChild To Stage Instance From Static Class?

Nov 4, 2011

I need to know when an element is added to the stage (using main document class). So i use :

Code:
public override function addChild(__child:DisplayObject):DisplayObject{
super.addChild(__child);
trace("child added");
return __child;
}

Which works fine. I also use a static class, to which i pass the stage using :

Code:
public static function setStage(__stage:Stage):void{
_stage = __stage;
}

But if i add to the stage (_stage) a MovieClip from the static class, my "real" stage doesn't seem to get that something was added. So i guess _stage !== stage.
So why is this happening, why is _stage not getting the methods of stage ?

ActionScript 3.0 :: AddChild From A Class - Get The Error "1180 : Call To A Possibly Undefined Method AddChild?

Jun 15, 2011

I'm trying to have a class file which can add objects to the stage via addChild; however, when I call addChild from within the class file, I get the error "1180: Call to a possibly undefined method addChild." I've tried importing flash.display.* and that doesn't fix the problem. Does the class file have to extend Sprite or MovieClip to be able to add objects to the stage?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Connect To The Same Class From The Stage As Well As From Inside A MovieClip?

Aug 7, 2011

How do I connect to the same class from the stage as well as from inside a MovieClip?

In other words: I've set a document class in my properties panel - I cannot access the class's methods from inside an MC. Why?

What are the different ways to connect a fla-file to a class (as-file)?

I've been playing around with AS3 for a few years now, but always avoided classes. But now the day has come for me to finally trying to get a hold of it.

ActionScript 3.0 :: AddChild From A Class Called By Document Class?

Dec 30, 2009

I have an FLA in which there are a number of MovieClips in its library. I also have a document class for this FLA, which I will refer to as Body.as from here out.From Body.as, I call other classes designed to put stuff together and allow for organization due to large amount of MCs I have to use in the FLA. For reference, these classes are called as such: Head.as, Chest.as, Arms.as, etc etc.Now, where Body.as is the document class, and is therefore functioning to operate all areas in the FLA, I wanted to use these additional class files to be used to manage anything related to them, including any MCs I have. I'll use Head.as for explaining. To that end, I have four MCs, each named as follows:hat1hat2hathat4s part of trying to organize it all, I want to be able to call a singular function in Head.as that will retrieve these MovieClips and add them to the stage (Or, as I hope to do once I get a bit further in, add them to a larger MC that will then be added to the stage).

ActionScript 3.0 :: How To Target A MC Inside AddChild()

Feb 11, 2011

I haven't found my answer with a search of the forum, sorry if this is a redundant question. I am having problems with targeting a MovieClip that is inside another Movie Clip that is placed on stage from the Library using the addChild(); method. This is my code for creating the MC instance on stage:

var pMenuSlide:plusMenuSlide = new plusMenuSlide();
addChild(pMenuSlide);

Now, inside of pMenuSlide there is a MC called cloze, how do I target this MC? This does not work: var pMenuCloze:MovieClip = Object(root).pMenuSlide.cloze

for (var j:int = 0; j < nomePostosArray.length; j++) {
var MC:MovieClip = new mc();
namelistscroller.text.addChild(MC);

[Code].....

the variable mapLink is inside the MC. This should be a link that should follow when someone press the link button inside MC. This is the only part that is not working.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Use A Variable Inside AddChild()?

Nov 30, 2009

Here's my (simplified) code:

Code:
var doorType:String = "DT0";
var openType:String = "OT0";
var imagePositioner:Sprite = new Sprite(); //Places a Sprite that will "contain"

[Code]....

openType is defined on a previous screen, it will be equal to OT1 or OT2. I have two sets of images (movie clips) that each have a prefix of "ot1_" or "ot2_" (in their class name). Other than those prefixes the two sets of image names are the same. I think I could cut the amount of code in half if I could use a variable when I use addChild.

I am not very knowledgeable of AS3 and everything I've tried has failed. My theory is that addChild() needs to contain a movieclip, so putting a variable name in addChild() doesn't work.

ActionScript 3.0 :: How To Optimize Graphics On Stage

Jan 3, 2010

I build games, which tend to run slowly when there are more than a dozen or so graphics being moved about the stage. I feel that my code is clean (I have researched code optimization) but not sure how I can make improvements with graphics. Currently, all graphics are created in Photoshop and imported to Flash as .png (I need semi-transparency, hence the .png format). I then set the image quality to low inside the library.

Every image usually resides within its' own sprite or movieClip. My games seem to slow down a fair deal when an image is introduced (such as a semi-transparent cloud drifting across the screen). Is there a special way to handle images when performance is an issue? I've only heard of stuff like cacheAsBitmap and other such fancy terms.
