Actionscript 3.0 :: Events Never Seem To Get Fired (since I Traced The OnComplete Functions)?

Jun 19, 2009

I am building a flash site in AS3 using AMFPHP. I could really use some help in the Event department...The structure of the site is as follows:

Documentclass,
adds PageConveyer (which holds all Pages)
- adds addEventListener( Event.COMPLETE, onPageConveyerComplete ), onPageConveyerComplete:
- startAnimation (loop through pages and components in arrays to animate into screen)[code].....

The problem lies in the Event listeners.I want to make sure everything (pages/components) is loaded before I start animating. My guess was that Flash listens to the underlying objects until they are done running, then fires the Event.COMPLETE event to the parent object, which in turn fires it's own COMPLETE event. These events never seem to get fired (since i traced the onComplete functions). Im lost here. How can I best listen to this many objects within objects, to know for sure whether they are finished and ready to be animated in?

Isnt't that onComplete function will only run after an action is done? Any other way to like after running the Tween.to line of code, only it will ran the 2nd line changing a variable?

Professional :: 2 Events Fired Simultaneously?

Aug 5, 2010

I have 2 buttons. There is a MOUSE_OUT event for button 1 and a MOUSE_OVER event button 2.The buttons are right next to each other. Each event leads to a different frame. When the mouse moves from button 1 to button 2, both events get fired, first MOUSE_OUT and then MOUSE_OVER - but the MOUSE_OVER event cuts off the MOUSE_OUT event and doesn't give it a chance to fully execute. To be more clear, for each event, a function is called which has "gotoAndPlay(x)"(x is some different frame number for each)The gotoAndPlay() will go to lets say frame 437 and play exactly 2 frames. But when MOUSE_OVER is fired and it calls my function, it calls the gotoAndPlay() BUT it doesn't get to play the 2 frames. It gets cut off because the MOUSE_OUT gets fired which calls a function which then calls gotoAndPlay() and plays a different 2 frames. How can I allow the first 2 frames to fully play and then the last 2 frames?

Flex :: Design - Static Functions Or Events?

Feb 1, 2011

I'm working with an application which was originally designed to make heavy use of static-variables and functions to impose singleton-style access to objects. I've been utilizing Parsley to break apart some of the coupling in this project, and I'd like to start chiseling away at the use of static functions. I will explain the basic architecture first, and then I'll ask my questions. Within this application exists a static utility which sends/receives HTTP requests. When a component wishes to request data via HTTP, it invokes a static function in this class: Utility.fetchUrl(url, parameters, successHandler, errorHandler); This function calls another static function in a tracking component which monitors how long requests take, how many are sent, etc. The invocation looks very similar in the utility class:

Actionscript 3 :: Flash RIA Development - Using Events / Listeners Or Allowing Children To Call Functions In Parents?

Oct 20, 2011

I'm working on a web app built in Flash AS3. At a high level - the app has a main screen, and several "modal dialog"-type screens that pop-up to manage various user interactions. (This is a similar pattern I use in most of the apps I develop...) Typically - when the user clicks a UI control on the dialog screen (e.g., button, text box, slider bar, etc.) - the main screen needs to react, or manage the consequences. It seems like there are two general ways to handle this: Have the dialog screen dispatch events that the main screen listens for Allow the dialog screen to call functions in the main screen when those controls are clicked (which requires that the dialog screen maintain a reference to the main screen, and that the functions in the main screen are public)

In general - I understand that one of the key benefits of the first method is that the dialog screen isn't so tightly coupled; it's only responsibility is to broadcast the event. This would allow me to more easily use the dialog class in other contexts, or applications. But for many RIAs I develop - a particular screen is SO SPECIFIC to the the application that there's no chance I'd ever reuse it in another application. So, the "easy re-use" benefit is minimal. So - if you eliminate that benefit - which method is actually better? (More performant, less resource-intensive?) For example - if I use events, then Flash needs to manage many listeners for events that may never occur. So - it might be more efficient if the dialog window could call a function in the main screen directly, instead of dispatching an event.

ActionScript 3.0 :: ZendAMF Error Handling - Make The PHP File Throw An Exception That Gets Traced As An Error Message

Jul 7, 2010

i am currently trying to learn ZendAMF, but i have a hard time troubleshooting which makes learning it quite hard. Is there a way to make the PHP file throw an exception that gets traced as an error message in AS3 (not Flex), the only error i seem to be able to get is "Error #2044: Unhandled NetStatusEvent:. level=error, code=NetConnection.Call.Failed", but it tells me jack ****.

i have gotten ZendAMF working, i just want to know how i can make error handling better, so that as an example can use PHP to tell flash that no results were found, or that the typed text was invalid. Is it better to use AS3 to check if the field was filled properly?

The way I have it with wedding(); does not work exactly like I wanted. So, how do I use onComplete to execute wedding() function after the EXMove is done? Second, my wedding_mc's width and height are linked, so, why can't I just tween only Width or Height instead of both?

I'm trying to use URLRequestMethod.GET to get some xml from our website. In ie7 the onComplete never fires so it gets stuck but it works great in every other browser. I know that to fix a similar problem with preloaders you change the onComplete to a ProgressEvent and check to see if bytesLoaded == bytesTotal. This doesn't seem to work for URLRequestMethod.GET because when bytesLoaded = bytesTotal it doesn't mean that you have your data. Is there another way to check to see when the data is finished?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Removing OnComplete From TweenLite?

Mar 3, 2011

if I assign an onComplete function in a TweenLite.to() call.. I can't seem to figure out how to remove the onComplete function of that tween incase I don't want it to be called for some reason..

example..

ActionScript Code:
TweenLite.to(current_slide,1,{x:0,onComplete:hideOld});

ok so i have a prev and next buttons .. and want to have it so that i can cycle through my slides (right now they overlap each other).. well with each it assigns the onComplete for that current_slide..

what i want to do is make it so that if there is a new tween for a new slide that the old current_slide doesn't call the onComplete..

so i store the old current_slide as previous_slide and then I tried to cancel the onComplete like you do other properties with killTweensOf()

this doesn't work it still gets fired..

ActionScript Code:
TweenLite.killTweensOf(previous_slide,false,{onComplete:true});

i think its cause this is only supposed to remove tweenable properties and not callback functions.. but there doesn't seem to be able to prematurely remove a onComplete function.

Actionscript 3 :: Remove Tweener Tweens OnComplete?

Mar 21, 2011

for occasional tweens, such as those triggered/added by a button, is it a best-practice to remove the tween - Tweener.removeTweens(myObject); - or does Tweener automatically do this when the tween finishes? i understand tweens automatically overwrite themselves, so perhaps it's not useful (not encouraged) to remove occasional tweens, but what about infrequent tweens? if Tweener doesn't automatically remove tweens when its finished with them, wouldn't the objects that Tweener is referencing not be able to be garbage collected if removed?
