Actionscript 3 :: Flash - Checking Color Of Object In If Statement?
Dec 16, 2011
I want to check whether the color = a certain color then appropriatly react. This is done in flash AS3.
the code I've got is
if(cal_mc.color == 0x0000FF) {
p1score = p1score + 25;
(cal_mc being the object)
It executes without any errors but doesn't work. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong with the if statment?

I have a spinning sphere, built using the away3D engine, it is wrapped in a bitmap. I need to be able to check the color value of the pixels in the sphere, however BitmapData only plots the 2D image, not the 3D sphere. So, the values become wrong. If I try to apply it to the sphere I get nasty errors. I have literally been stuck on this for days.

Imagine a black box with a white X inside of it. They are both inside a single movieclip called "box". What I want to do here is with actionscript, replace the White X (0xFFFFFF) with Red (0xFF0000), while the black isn't affected at all. I've thought about making two more movieclips (one for the X, and the other for the block), but it would be easier for me if it just replaced certain colors.

But it doesn't seem to work, and most of the time it lands up on Ne("2") instead...

I'm attempting to make a platform game. Each level is contained within it's own MovieClip, which has it's own class. Each of these classes extend the Level class, which provides basic functionality for all levels.
Each individual level has a numPlatforms variable which stores the number of platforms in that particular level. I currently have a for loop that runs from 1-numPlatforms and sets the level area (the image, more or less) the platform contains:

I am trying to use a mouseevent.startdrag to move a particular movieclip, but I don't know how to go about checking the object in question. The code below doesn't seem to work with either ==Object(MCsquare) or just ==MCsquare.
function onStartDrag(evt:MouseEvent):void

trace(evt.target);

How can I run a check to see if the target object is MCsquare?

I've created a simple drag n drop activitiy but there is a small problem. There is a repeat of a word within the activity (the words are the drag objects). Now I want the user to be able to drag the first instance of the word onto either drop target when it first appears. When the second instance appears I have told the expression to look to confirm the location of the first instance of the word (which target it sits within) and make the word snap back if the user drags the word onto a drop target where the first instance already sits - and allow it to snap to the drop target where the first instance does not appear. (I HOPE THIS MAKES SOME SENSE) - if it does not make sense, I have cut and paste the script below:

i suspect the answer here is "no", but i'm wondering if it's possible to set the color of trace statements which appear in flex's console pane. ie, i have a few "levels" of log statements, and i'd like the warnings and errors to really stand out.

I want to do something like this in Actionscript 3:
if(variable is Object) ...;
else ...;
Where variable could be a String(), Number(), Array(), Object()...Currently the above check returns true for all of these types, which makes sense. I only want it to return true for objects made with new Object(), however.

Is there a way to check whether a loader object is in the process of loading something? I need to create an if statement that checks if the loader has an open connection. So far, what I thought of is:
ActionScript Code:
if(loaderInstanceName.contentLoaderInfo.bytesLoaded > 0)
{
// do something
}
Here, I'm just assuming that if bytesLoaded is greater than 0, than it's probably loading something. But I don't think it will revert back to 0 after the loader finishes loading an external resource. So after that, bytesLoaded will always be greater than 0 even though it isn't in the process of loading anything. Is there any other property that I can use which says whether the loader object has an open connection?

I've got to build a kids game at the moment for my school, and I was planning to have a sort of archaeological dig, with the kids required to rub the screen (it's for a touch-screen) to "un-earth" the bones underneath.I was thinking of either erasing an overlay and checking for a hitTest between the two objects, or coloring in with a line or something.Is it possible to color something in and check when the object has been completely colored? or possible to erase an overlying object? and if so, can you point me in the direction of a tutorial or a quick explanation?

I am making a flash animation and what I want is to have different movieclips animating over the screen and randomly changing colors. The animation is not the problem but the color changing.
i got this so far:
Code:
var myTimer:Timer = new Timer(1000); // 1 second
myTimer.addEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER, runMany);
myTimer.start();
[Code]...
Every second ALL my objects change color. But there are some movieclips that must stay the same color. So i changed the this inside the code above to some movieclip. If i tried that again, the animation of that movieclip stopt after it changed 1 time to another color.
Does any one know how i can solve this? so that the color of the movieclips will randomly change after 1 second AND the movieclips keeps their animation?

In Actionscript 3, I'm trying to build a button to go back from a content frame to a main menu. When the button is clicked, IF the content frame has a movie in it, that movie should stop playing. Flash keeps throwing a "null object reference" error on all pages that don't include a movie. I even tried putting in a check to see if the movie exists, but that doesn't work, either.
ActionScript Code:
function return_to_menu( me:MouseEvent ):void {
if ( flashmo_contents.flv_movie ) { //this line produces errors in frames where the movie

I made a color picker and I was wondering if the color object had any way of grabbing the actual color name?
I know I could put all the colors into an array and call them up as needed... I've done the same thing in C#... and the color object in C# has a color name feature, I was wondering if Flash's color object had the same deal.

I am a new flash developer and I cannot seem to understand this problem. Whenever I try and trace one of these variables of type XMLList they all return NULL except for the last one in the array.The createDatsSets() function is designed to pull XMl data and copy it to an variable of type XMLList which resides in an array. This should happen 8 times to add data to all 8 variables.It works fine with a single variable but, in the for statement when.I try and trace any of the variables in the xmlList array only the last one has XML data in it.

I'm trying to check to see if an object exists by using a simple if statement.
if (object.name) {
//Do this
}
However, if the object doesn't exist, I get this error, "Error #1010: A term is undefined and has no properties" - which I understand is because the object doesn't exist. Is there a better way to check to see if an object exists?

I recently built a preloader using the MovieClipLoader object. I used the following events: OnLoadComplete, OnLoadProgress and onLoadStart. I registered my listeners etc and then I decided I wanted to get a bit fancy. So I decided that within the onLoadProgress I would add an"if" statement, this if statement would basically say if the loaded content equals 70 then animate the preloader graphic off the screen using tweening (very simple). The onLoadProgress is continuously called while the content is being loaded but it seems that it does not want to correctly execute my if condition.
Here is the code for the onLoadProgress.
loadListener.onLoadProgress = function (target:MovieClip, bytesLoaded:Number, bytesTotal:Number) {
trace("onLoadProgress");
txtLoaded.text = String (Math.floor (bytesLoaded / bytesTotal * 100)) + "% loaded";
mcProgress._xscale = bytesLoaded / bytesTotal * 100; // address the bar
[Code] .....
