I have some text form fields that I've set up to display some paired variables stored in a .txt file. When the swf loads, the form fields are populated with the text.I've also set it up so that if you change the text and hit a submit button, the .txt file gets updatedI'm now tryng to set it up so that I can store radio button selections in the .txt file too.I've started doing it a certain way, but am wondering if there is a more straightforward way of doing I've set up the butttons to spit out "on" or "off" depending on the selection, and apply that to the variable that gets stored.the text form fields when the swf is refreshed, I want to load the on/off variable, and then somehow apply it to the radio buttons so that one of them is pre-selected.
View 1 RepliesI set my list to allow multiple selection. But when I load data in my list, I want to set a few items as selected. Normally you can set only one item selected by using list.selectedIndex. It only accepts int. How can I set multiple items as selected?
View 2 RepliesIt is possible to block a link from flash object? (Link is hardcoded inside a flash object).
View 3 Repliesi'm using a Rails backend with my App and getting a AsyncToken returned from it (a DB-Call to be specific)As far as i know the AsyncToken returns a result event when done loading all data from the request, this way its possible to make sure all data was loaded before executing some function which uses the data. i tried the following implementation to get the AsyncToken converted into an Array and plotting its objects as strings to the user:
var dataSrv:services.databaseservice.DatabaseService = new services.databaseservice.DatabaseService;
dataSrv.addEventListener(ResultEvent.RESULT, dbListener);
//DBOPERATION returns my AsyncToken
var listData:AsyncToken = dataSrv.DBOPERATION;
But i keep getting a "null object-pointer" error!
I have a flash object embedded in my website with the embed code that I got from a website. It does not show up in Safari, it's just a blank area where the flash object is supposed to be. What can I do to get the object to show up in Safari?
Here is the embedded code:
<object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=9,0,0,0" height="250" width="258" id="sn_player" align="middle">
<param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" />
<param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always" />

I'm kinda new to Flex. I have trying to send Hash from Ruby on Rails application to Flex using RubyAMF.Results look like this:
result (mx.utils.ObjectProxy (@22b207d9))

|-->errors (object (@16c64dd1))
[code]......
In the code I'm writing, I use a with block to reference a newly created object thus:

I tried doing this.xot, xot, and other stuff, but it just keeps sliding under _root.xot instead of ArrowL##.xot.
I was developing the Application in Flex and ruby on rails.
It is working fine some times. but some times i am getting routing error.
Error: "No route matches "/index.html" with {:method=>:get}"
Here index.html is my login page
how can i make it so that the viewer can only click on one object MC and not multiple ones. When the click the MC, i have a function that happens, but i only want one MC able to be selected at once, not all of them.so, if one is clicked, then another is clicked.. it needs to reset the first one etc. hopefully this explains clear enough the concept.
View 2 RepliesSo i have an external as file which have a function. the function make the movie clip do something when it hit another object which i named "block."
but the external as file can't accses "block" movie clip which's added from the fla files and given an instance name as "block".
Well, I've been using flash a while, but I just ran into a newbie problem.. I must have hit some sort of hotkey, but I can't figure out how to undo it or anything in the preferences. Anyways, I'm running Flash CS4 and normally when you draw a shape and select that shape it selects the fill and it looks like little dots all over the shape when its selected. Now when I click on a shape it has a border around it and I can't just select a piece of the shape. Also, what's bothering me is that when you draw two shapes on top of each other, Flash used to merge those shapes automatically, but now they are staying separate unless I manually Union them. It still says they're drawing objects, its not converting them to symbols or anything, but they are kind of acting like symbols in the way I can interact with them. How can I turn this setting off?
View 2 RepliesI am looking for a way to select all the objects, on the main timeline, collectively and changing their visibility, at run-time, as per situation.
View 2 RepliesNow, I'm writing a small game. I use actionscript to load a group of soldiers.It's pretty easy. But how do I select all of the soldiers by dragging the mouse?
View 3 RepliesI'm trying to find a generic way to select everything on the stage, because when I leave a frame, I want everything to fade out. But the user will be leaving multiple frames, so I would like to do it without specifying various objects depending on what frame they're on. I realize there are a lot of ways to "skin this cat", and I will fall back on something else if this isn't possible.
When I try this, I get an error, "undefined *".
Code:
stage.*.alpha = 0;
I have a couple of objects on the stage and want the user to be able to select one and then use a common set of buttons (with functions attached) to change the selected object's color, rotation, size, etc.
I've got the functions worked out, and can apply them easily as along as I hardcode the object instance names in the functions. However, I can't figure out how to allow the user to select a particular object and then pass the instance name of the selected object to an appropriate function.
Lets say I want to call a function with an optional Object, how do I write that?If it was a String or a Number or some simple data type it would be:
Code:
function foo(s:String="Sample String", n:Number=100):void{}
But anything I try with an Object just throws an error. For example...
Code:
function foo(o:Object={x:10, b:10}):void{}
...makes the compiler barf, and so does every other version of this I've tried.
i wanted to make an object to reset to the default position, like i move it around and when i hit a button he goes to his position for example x: 233 and y:431
View 1 RepliesHow can i select a object at random from 40 generated objects?
View 4 Replieshow to set default property values for objects that are being created in a loop.
In the example below, these propeties are the same for each object created in the loop: titleTextField.selectable, titleTextField.wordWrap, titleTextField.x
If you pull these properties out of the loop, they are null because the TextField objects have not been created, but it seems silly to have to set them each time.
var titleTextFormat:TextFormat = new TextFormat();
titleTextFormat.size = 10;
titleTextFormat.font = "Arial";

I'm studying a demo code and it seems to me that an instance of a class is never instantiated, in particular I have this line:

Is it possible to change the default destination of the SharedObject directory? If so, how do you do this?
View 9 RepliesI'm building a game which makes use of a few extended classes. I've recently made a few changes in the way the graphics are ordered and am now running into problems, namely:
ReferenceError: Error #1069: Property grab not found on flash.display.Sprite and there is no default value.
at DraggableSprite/grabObject()
ReferenceError: Error #1069: Property drop not found on flash.display.Sprite and there is no default value.
at DraggableSprite/dropObject()
The general structure is as follows ('>' means extends) :
MovieClip > DraggableSprite > PlantPart > Seed or Flower.
DraggableSprite manages dragging/dropping objects with the mouse. It contains the offending lines of code being:
Code:
private function grabObject(evt:MouseEvent) {
trace("grabTarget: "+evt.target.name);
if (this._draggable) {
_origX = evt.target.x;
_origY = evt.target.y;
[Cde] .....
The Seed and Flower classes contain a public 'grab' and 'drop' function which manage some different effects of being picked up and dropped, but the code seems to stop short at the PlantPart class and register a sprite it contains as the 'evt.target'. I added this intermediate sprite to overcome a colission problem with the mouse. The sprite functions as a dragbox, while the Seed and Flower graphics offer visual feedback.
I have a comboBox and values like basic and advanced. And viewstack container conatains 2 grids.When i select the base option in Combobox, the first grid has to be selected. select the advanced value in comboBox, the second grid has to be selected.
<mx:ViewStack id="viewstack1" width="95%" height="85%" x="0" y="63" >
<tables:KeyMetricsBasicTable basicArrayDataProvider="{basicArrayResult1}" width="100%" height="100%"/>
<tables:KeyMetricsAdvTable advArrayDataProvider="{advArrayResult1}" width="100%" height="100%"/>
</mx:ViewStack>
I've been using a custom base class with an id property that is automatically assigned by a manager class when an instance is created. I use this value in multiple ways and require it to differentiate each instance.
I want to remove the need for my own base class but still have a way to tell instances throughout my application apart.
Is there a property set on all objects in ActionScript 3 that can act as a unique identifier?
I have a Flash Form that is fairly long (about 8 short pages), so I have set the form up so that it can be reviewed when the filler-outer is done and they are ready to submit it. I'm using a Shared Object to store the information they enter so they won't lose their information if they hit refresh or need to come back later.
If they go back to the page with comboboxes on it, the comboboxes have reset to the default. The answer and data in the SO haven't changed, but it looks like it to the consumer/viewer.
So, I'd like for the boxes to display the choice they picked when they were on that page. I need use the value from the database to show the particular value in the ComboBox whenever the user returns to that page.
Flex 4 Combobox is extended with a Text Input that helps in getting to the item that is searched for.I have created a Check Box as an itemrenderer for this Flex 4 Combobox. I would like to Add a Select All and Select None options in the drop down of the Combobox. I know that i could accomplish by editing the dropdownfactory in case of a Flex 3 Combobox. But in Flex 4 the dropdownfactory doesnt exist.

Flex complains if I want to create an object from a library symbol with linkage: 1180: Call to a possibly undefined method [linkage name]. So to avoid this, I create a class for that symbol, in this case extending BitmapData using Flex's new ActionScript Class feature. Flex create that class for me and the constructor looks like this: public function CustomBitmapData(width:int, height:int, transparent:Boolean=true, fillColor:uint=null)

I maintain two web sites and am reasonably competent in Dreamweaver and Fireworks. Now to get into Flash.I want to produce a banner which shows a flag + Welcome in that language and have about 20 nations to cover. Can anyone please point me to a guide as to how to get this started?
