ActionScript 3.0 :: Flash Divorcing The Timeline And The Frame Rate?

Jun 29, 2011

At the moment I am working on a project that uses the enterFrame event to update a game world at 30 FPS. I know that the movie frame rate I set in the Flash IDE is far from precise. However, I am using enterFrame because my assets (MovieClips and such) are animated within the Flash IDE and need to be synchronized with the frame rate.All actual programming is done with FlashDevelop, outside of the Flash IDE.I've heard that it is much better to make applications independent of the frame rate, presumably by using a Timer/getTimer() and updateAfterEvent() to draw.

All global ticks are handled through an interface I wrote that allows me to freely switch between frame tick implementations, so I can easily modify my code to accommodate whatever solutions are out there.Is there a way I can keep my animations in step with the global tick while removing dependency on the movie's frame rate?

Media Server :: Webcam Frame Rate, NetStream Frame Rate, Flv Framerate?

Apr 25, 2010

I'm recording Webcam to FMS 3.5 but when I play the recorded video from FMS it's choppy. I have set the camera.fps to 30 but when I trace out the currentFPS for camera it's variable and usually falls between 20 and 30. However when I play the recorded video, netStream's currentFPS returns a lower value, something closer to 10. So my question is, 1) why currentFPS of netStream is not the same as Camera's? 2) What's the actual frame rate of the recorded video (not the netStream, but FLV's)?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Controlling Timeline With Buttons?

Apr 3, 2010

i have forward/back buttons to control the timeline. what happens in the following code is that if the button is clicked while in the < or > range of frames, it gets buggy. heres the code.

[Code].....

this doesnt seem to go to the exact frame i need if i click while the current sample is still animating in. It would be much better if i could tell flash to a specific frame instead of asking flash to determine a range. that way, if a button is pressed during an animation it wont just advance one frame, it would jump to a specific frame.

I wish i could just do this:

[Code].....

i thought about creating a var that would be a string. i could then add a number to the name of that string each time the button is clicked. then i could make frame labels the name of the string. but i couldnt get my head around it. also, i didnt know how to make the button stop adding to the string name once it reach a certain value (6 in this case). or how to make it play the last sample animation if the user kept clicking the advance button at the end of the samples.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Controlling A Timeline From Nested Buttons?

Oct 5, 2009

I have a straight forward flash document where the play head plays from start to finish. The client wants a way to stop and start the animation if time is needed to discuss what is happening on screen. Simple buttons can easily do this if those buttons are not nested.

Code:
stopBtn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, onStopClick, false, 0, true);
playBtn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, onPlayClick, false, 0, true);
stopBtn.buttonMode = true;

[Code]....

However, if I make a mouse over pop up movie clip button and place those button inside it, they do not work. I can not find the piece of code that will link these nested buttons back to the main time line.

AS3 :: Buttons Controlling Timeline Not Working Inside MovieClip?

Feb 25, 2011

This is my first time coding a website using ActionScript. So far everything has went very well, I designed the website in Photoshop, and imported to Flash CS5. Then I cleaned everything up, and started adding navigation to the various pages using buttons.The website is constructed in a very simple manner, there are five main pages and they are connected by buttons on a static navigation bar (the first page, home, doesn't have a corresponding button). Then there are nine sub pages, that each contain information on a character of the game, and are connected to corresponding buttons in the 'Character' layer/MovieClip. My four menu buttons (Story, The World, Characters, Extras) all navigate correctly without problems.

The problem arises because inside my Characters page (a movie clip) are nine buttons, each linking to a different page. These buttons should bring the timeline to the frame specified, but when the buttons are clicked nothing happens. I've spent hours searching for a solution to this, but with no avail, and I have a feeling the answer is prettysimple.gotoAndStop("gowang", "Scene 1");line in the Gowang character button function with:MovieClip(root).gotoAndStop("gowang");

ActionScript 2.0 :: Change Movieclip Buttons State When Timeline Reaches A Certain Frame?

Nov 18, 2009

I have a menu with 4 movieclip buttons (movieclips that act as buttons) that when pressed make the timeline jump to a certain frame. The mc buttons have both "onrollover" and "selected" states. However the timeline also moves on its own, even if no button is pressed.

I need the buttons to assume the "selected" state when the timeline reaches a specific frame (as if the button had been pressed to make the timeline jump there). But I can't figure out how to do it althought I think it must be quite simple.

This is the code I'm using (controls the buttons and its on the first frame of the main timeline)

------------------------------------------------------------------------
// create an array of all nav buttons in group
var groupinfo:Array = [birds, bears, bats, bunnies];
// create constants to define start and stop of fadein and fadeout sequences
// (fadeout should be exactly the same sequence as fadein, in reverse frame order)

[Code].....

ActionScript :: Set Frame Rate In It?

Nov 8, 2010

Is it possible to set the frame rate of a movie through ActionScript 2? Is it possible to check it?

I've found many ways to check the rate at which it is playing, but I want, ideally, to be able to set the frame rate dynamically at runtime. I'm making a timer that uses flashing dots to show each unit of time, and I'd like to create a user interface so that someone playing the swf can set the time intervals without having to open the fla to change the frame rate.

Dynamic Frame Rate Settings?

May 27, 2009

Actually I am working in an image scroller project. It was working perfectly. But the client asked to do some updations. First of all please download the file that I have atached, which is a screen shot of user control page for image scroller. There is an user control page for image scroller. You can see many options there. In user control, scroller is specified as marquee scroller. There is an option, Speed of scroller, which denotes how quickly the image should scroll. The unit of this field is seconds. Because we are giving seconds in that field. A single image should move out of the stage with in the specified seconds in "speed of scroller" field.

var UnitDistPerSec:Number = Number(TransSpeed)*10;  where "TransSpeed" denotes the speed we are given in the user control page. var FPS = 100;  var ScrlConst = UnitDistPerSec/FPS;

FLA To MOV - Unable To Get The Correct Frame Rate?

Dec 22, 2009

I have a problem exporting a flash movie to a Quicktime movie with the correct frame rate. When I try to transfer it to a DVD that will play in loop, the video is jerking. I really need to get a 30 fps video.

I'm using Flash CS3 on Mac OS X. I built my flash animation with photos and text only (no SWF or movies linked or embeded, no actionscript, no sound, one scene only). The frame rate I specified in my flash movie is 30 fps. My scene format is 1360 x 768 pixels (16:9).

I need to export my flash movie in an almost uncompressed format to bring it to a DVD.
