Because Im populating an empty movieclip with data and i want to scroll this data using a scrollbar, but instead of populating from the TOP TO BOTTOM Im populating the movieclip from the BOTTOM UPWARDS. so I'm trying to create and input textarea with a scrollbar. No scrolling buttons needed. The app will be a font previewing app, where the user can change fonts, sizes etc. kinda like [URL](hit try on any font).
Everything works fine until the user wants to add some text. I've got an easing scrollbar thing going, which almost work, but the problem is in updating the scrollbar's position after the user has typed something in (tested using onSetFocus and onKillfocus). This scroller works with a mask and the x, y and height value of the masked clip.
So I started looking into scroll and thought I'd use that. Now I'm so puzzled that I can't figure out the best way to scroll and input textarea, so that the scrollbar's position would update according to the cursor's position in the text.
I've tried to use the "Simple Custom Scrollbar" tutorial to create a horizontal scrollbar instead of the vertical. I've changed the defenitions like this:

I put the "Width" instead of the "height", and "x" instead of "y". What I've got is when I push on the "scrollFace" button it slides but disappears immidietly, and the the image (which is "movieclip" as well) beneath the masked area freezes.

I have a Canvas with a VBox in it. As I add items to the VBox, I want the VBox to grow, I want the scrollbar on the Canvas to control the visibility.

Maybe some sort of ActionScript that has to do with loading external files that contains both text and images? But I presume that if it's going into a textbox, it'd have to be text.. I'd like my content in a textbox though (rather than in a movieclip) so it could be scrollable.
what I'd do is create my page in Fireworks with the text and images. So that way I can assign hyperlinks on keywords. Then the file would be saved as either PNG or HTML. Either way, could Flash import such files into a textbox and still preserve the hyperlinks?

I have a scrollbar and it works as a swf locally. It works in the html file too UNTIL I add too much text. Then the dragger "sticks" so it sort of works, but works really poorly. I'm not sure why adding too much text would cause the scroller / dragger to have problems, but it is.

I have a flash movie within it quite a few scenes. When I go to a certain scene it has a movie clip on it (UGFT_MC). Within this I have a dynamic text box (UGFTtxt). I have the render text as HTML selected and the variable called "data". On my main timeline at the start of this scene I have the actionscript: loadVariables("UGFT.txt","_root.UGFT_MC");
Within my text file I have the following:
data=<B>All the code I want in my text box</B>
<p><img src="test.jpg"</p> etc.
This part all works, except I have lots of text and images in the text file and need a scroll bar on my dynamic text box. I have tried the UIScrollBar and it only works some of the time, and there is no pattern as to whether the scroll bar will appear. Quite often it is just a grey area. Though the top of the text called from the file is visible.
Simply put, what I'm trying to do is create a Dynamic Textfield with custom scroll bars via this tutorial [URL], that renders an external HTML file with CSS attached as its content instead of images like in the tutorial. I've tried a mix and match combination, ultimately, when I test the movie, the scroll bar works, but I see no content to scroll through. I have attached my project file.

View 2 RepliesI am currently creating an online portfolio using Slideshowpro [URL]. For some of my pictures I am using (external) captions from a XML file, inserted into a dynamic textfield. As some of the captions contain a lot of text I decided to add a UIScrollBar. However, when there is no text (no caption) available, I want the scrollbar to be hidden. Also if there is not enough text to warrant a scrollbar it would be great if it could be hidden!

However, what I'm trying to do is create a scrollbar that changes the "scroll" attribute for an XML textbox. I already have it set up to work with scroll arrows. Here is the code I'm using below:

So I've got the arrows working fine, but I'm still missing a scrollbar to go in between them.
Having got into flash about a year ago, I have a fairly good understanding of as3, but I have never had any reason to learn as2. For an upcoming project, we were looking to use Scaleform GFx, with the UDK. (Unreal Development Kit) Trouble is, Scaleform only supports as2. From what I've been told, as3 is supposed to be better in just about every way, so I really don't want to learn a language that?s most likely on the way out, if I have any other options.
Is there any converters out there, that can convert script from as3 to as2? Or another workaround possibility, since flash communicates with the UDK by means of just calling a function, could I create an as2 file that could dynamically load an as3 file?
I asked this earlier but maybe I didn't give enough information. I am working on a website where video quality is very important and the client is delivering me the video already compressed. I then want to import it to flash CS3 and export it as .flv for progressive download with the media playback component. I have done all of this successfully in a sense that it all works but the video quality is not good enough, it's good but the client says it;s a bit grainy. I used the highest setting in Flash, on2 vp6 at 700kbs.
My question is what is the best file format (.mov etc) and what settings should the client use, so I can create the highest quality .flv export from their .mov file? Second question, I used an 8 second buffer but now the client is saying they don't want it to buffer at all. What are the other options besides progressive download, I have never delved into this before?
For some reason I am unable to create a FLV file from a MP4 file with high bitrate. I even created a custom setting and specified bitrate as 2500 but the output file is always around 775.
