ActionScript 2.0 :: Create A Textbox With A Scrollbar That Can Contain Both Text And Images?
Mar 23, 2006
Is it possible to create a textbox with a scrollbar that can contain both text and images? Maybe some sort of ActionScript that has to do with loading external files that contains both text and images? But I presume that if it's going into a textbox, it'd have to be text.. I'd like my content in a textbox though (rather than in a movieclip) so it could be scrollable.
what I'd do is create my page in Fireworks with the text and images. So that way I can assign hyperlinks on keywords. Then the file would be saved as either PNG or HTML. Either way, could Flash import such files into a textbox and still preserve the hyperlinks?

where i can find Dynamic Text Effect Tutorials. I'm trying to create a textbox that loads external text and, upon loading, displays the text like its being typed. In addition the new letters fade from white to a shade of blue, and lastly as the letters are being typed a sound clip is played per typed letter.

I have a movie clip button with a text box within it. The text box also has a scrollbar component attached. Since the movie clip button has roll-over functionality [ btn.onRollover = function() ], I believe that's taking precedence over the inner scrollbar. I guess this goes back to the common problem of a button inside of a button.

I'm creating a custom scroll bar in flash, I'm following a tutorial for how to code it in I believe AS2. However there are some differences between the outcome I want and the tutorial I'm viewing. What I wished to create was a dynamic text field which relates to a text file outside of flash. The problem I'm having is that in order for my scroll bar to work it needs a set distance to work the percentages out that make it work e.g. if I move the bar down 50% the content would of moved up 50%. Because my field is dynamic it can be any size depending on the content. Any code that can get or measure the Y size, then use that calculated size as a variable to control the percentages of the scroller.
So far I have a few variables that have allowed me to create my scrollbar and restrict it's movement. The problem is that my scrollpane isn't moving, the script I have to get the scroll pane's highest Y co-ordinate is:
var scrollpaneUpper:Number = getProperty(Scrollpane,_height)/-1
So that whatever the height of Y is when the dynamic text is entered the variable will get it and divide by -1 so it's a negative figure that will lift the text field not lower it. The problem is it's not moving with my scrollbar or at all and I'm sure the rest of the code is right. I've got everything moving but the scrollpane isn't picking up the updated data from the dynamic text box. Instead it is taking the original value from the height of the text box which was 25 and is moving it that far, which means lots get's cut off. Is there a way I can update the data entry so it's not 25, it's as large as the text box is autoSized to?

I have some button code on frame one. that looks like this:
[AS]on (release, keyPress "<Enter>") {
mylogin = new LoadVars();
mylogin.password = password;
mylogin.username = username;
[code]....
basically sending and recieving variables from a php page. I want to be able to specify what my textbox on frame 5 says in the onLoad statement. Is this possible?
Currently the only way I have been able to get the text to display is either to use the textbox variable and declare that in the onload statement, or to put textbox.text = mylogin.message; on the actual frame.I doubt there is a way to do it, because the actual textbox hasn't be created yet, but if there were a way, that would be nice.

I've found plenty of scripts for scrollbars that move a movie clip up and down within a mask. However, what I'm trying to do is create a scrollbar that changes the "scroll" attribute for an XML textbox. I already have it set up to work with scroll arrows. Here is the code I'm using below:
Code:
scrollArrows.downBtn.onPress = function() {
this.onEnterFrame = function() {
EquipText.scroll++;
[code]...
So I've got the arrows working fine, but I'm still missing a scrollbar to go in between them.

My question applies only when I work in 16 bit system resolution, so when I apply some text and apply 'Anti-alias for readability' with embedded chars, there is some strange filled rectangle showing around the text box. The same applies when I add any kind of filter to a text or image. You may see the exact problem by clicking on the link below: http:[url]....
- Notice the rectangle around the text boxes ('anti-alias for readability' applied, it doesn't matters is it static or dynamic text)
- Notice the rectangle around the middle dark-gray box with glowing effect applied
I will say again, this problem occurs only in 16 bit system resolution, it is not applying in 32 bit.

[URL] so I can load an external text file into a text box in flash. All that works fine but I'm having problems trying to embed a jpg into it. I have been searching the web and all I've found is that you use the "<img src>" method as you would with any html document. From what I have read, you place that code into the .txt file like I have done:
content=B. Clarke 12sg.
<img src="images/misc/briantech.jpg">
Sifu B. Clarke receiving his 1st Tech grade by Keith Kernshpect
I have followed kirupa's tutorial [URL] exactly and the only change I have made is changing the word "myNews" to "content" in the AS and start of .txt file.

I've recently picked up some flash work after a long respite into motion graphics via after effects, and I'm slowly mucking my way through things. I've currently got more than 250k pixels I need to seamlessly scroll through horizontally, via a scrollbar and buttons. I've bitten off more than I expected! I've been searching around, and it seems like tile based scrolling is what I'm going to need, due to max bitmap restrictions, is this correct?
If I'm on the right track here, I throw myself on the mercy of the community for any tile-based scrolling resources out there that you know of, something that explains the idea and setup from a non-game point of view maybe? Sorry if I seem like another noob looking for a quick fix, I've honestly been trying to find info on this all morning. Also, feel free to smack me into shape if I'm making this harder on myself than necessary.

Because Im populating an empty movieclip with data and i want to scroll this data using a scrollbar, but instead of populating from the TOP TO BOTTOM Im populating the movieclip from the BOTTOM UPWARDS. Im having problems with my scrollbar if i did it this way. But if i populate the empty mc with data from TOP to BOTTOM, my scrollbar is working properly.

I have tried to work on a simple form with Flash Builder 4, but was stuck in creating the dynamic addition of the instance for a textbox and combobox within a Hbox.I have created an HBox component with a textbox and a combo box. I then create a button Add new Row, to add a new row of Hbox on the runtime.
May I know how can I create the add to make it able to add new hbox component on clicking of the button, such that when i click the hbox 3 times, I should have 3 rows of the component instance and the button is still at the bottom of these components?

I have an empty textbox with the basic scroll bar component. Nothing is in the text box so the arrows are greyed out on the scrollbar. I have a button that loads text into the textbox, but the component does not update itself to accomodate text that is larger than the text box.
how can I make it so that the scrollbar changes when text is added.....also If I put text in the text box in flash, when I publish it gets the scrollbar fine, but it will not adjust itself when I click on the button that loads different text into the text box. what happens is the scroll bar stays the same regardless on the size of the loaded text.

I'm building a site and I would like to add a scrollbar to a text area that swaps out xml text files. Currently, I have up and down arrows to scroll the text, but I would like to have an actual scrollbar instead since there is a lot of text in some of the sections. Here is a link to the current version of the site with the up and down arrows: [URL]
I can make the scrollbar work just fine if I put the text in the first frame, but whenever I set it up to call on text files, then the scroll bar won't work. Obviously, I'm pretty new at Flash. I've attached an FLA with the text box.

I am trying to create a dynamic xml driven video playlist, that will display the thumbnail, title and time duration of the video (quite similar to the one on youtube). But I don't know where to begin and I have been googling for some helpful tutorials but cant find anything resourceful. guide me if I shall use the Flash component for scrolling purpose or I shall learn to develop my own scroller with scrollbar. If someone knows the link of some recommended tutorial, that would be great.

so I'm trying to create and input textarea with a scrollbar. No scrolling buttons needed. The app will be a font previewing app, where the user can change fonts, sizes etc. kinda like [URL](hit try on any font).
Everything works fine until the user wants to add some text. I've got an easing scrollbar thing going, which almost work, but the problem is in updating the scrollbar's position after the user has typed something in (tested using onSetFocus and onKillfocus). This scroller works with a mask and the x, y and height value of the masked clip.
So I started looking into scroll and thought I'd use that. Now I'm so puzzled that I can't figure out the best way to scroll and input textarea, so that the scrollbar's position would update according to the cursor's position in the text.
