ActionScript 2.0 :: Create A Textbox That Loads External Text?
Jul 20, 2004
where i can find Dynamic Text Effect Tutorials. I'm trying to create a textbox that loads external text and, upon loading, displays the text like its being typed. In addition the new letters fade from white to a shade of blue, and lastly as the letters are being typed a sound clip is played per typed letter.
I want to create banner and do exchange with others.Banner will be flash because it will load just entry titles with URL's from XML, which is on my site.
how to create a Flash website, that loads data from an external source(CMS), that can be indexed by Google? Indexed by Google looking at the SWF and not shadow HTML pages. Or exactly why such a site cannot be indexed by Google. I have found several articles; however, none get into technical details or are by Adobe.
I found a tutorial that showed how to create an image gallery that loads external bitmaps. It also has some nice fade in/fade out effects using Tweener. I was wondering, what would I need to modify from my code to load MovieClips from the library instead of the external JPEGs.
ActionScript Code: import caurina.transitions.Tweener; var btn:Object;
I wanna create some sort of actionscripted typewriter which loads its content from an external file, but i can't seem to get the code to work properly!
This is what i got till now:
2 layers: - one with a textfield called 'textbox' - one with the actions
A textfile which contains: waarde=Wannaloadtextfromanexternaltextfile!
4 frames, in the first frame i load the textfile this way:
The problem is that when i assign the value of "text" in the first frame this way : <-- text = "Wannaloadtextfromanexternaltextfile!"; --> (witout the comment tags ofcourse) the typewriter works fine but when i load the var from the textfile nothing happens, the trace works fine and displays the contents of the var but the typewriter displays nothing.
the weird this is that when i add this after all the code in frame 1 it works fine: text = "azerty"; But when i add this it doesn't: text = "a";
So when i overwrite the var with the azerty value suddenly it contains the correct value in the next frame, when i assign only one character to it the script doesn't work anymore.
Is it possible to create a textbox with a scrollbar that can contain both text and images? Maybe some sort of ActionScript that has to do with loading external files that contains both text and images? But I presume that if it's going into a textbox, it'd have to be text.. I'd like my content in a textbox though (rather than in a movieclip) so it could be scrollable.
what I'd do is create my page in Fireworks with the text and images. So that way I can assign hyperlinks on keywords. Then the file would be saved as either PNG or HTML. Either way, could Flash import such files into a textbox and still preserve the hyperlinks?
Can't get the CSS to style an external txt. Copy loads as supposed to and thru a trace I can see that the css stylesheet is recognized but it won't actually style the text. For instance, <span class="header"> Heading</span>stays at the original font size instead of getting bigger. I'm stumped. Have tried so many things to get this to work. What have I missed?Instance name of dynamic text field = upcom_txt. Text field is on stage. Html,check. Multiline, check.the css style sheet = "CSSs/news.css"my text = "TXTs/upcom.txt"Font = "Alte Haas Grotesk". The font is a font symbol exported from the library of the FLA. (I've tried using a system font, but it still doesn't work)CSS FILE:
I'm working with a flash template that loads external images and text using an xml file. Everything works well the only problem is I've promised a client that as well as a "title" and "description" I will also include a clickable URL link. I can edit the flash to a certain extent but I am having a nightmare of a time including a clickable url. Is there anyone out there who can help? "photo_description", "photo_title" and "photo_url" are the names of the dynamic text fields.
XML snippet looks a little like this... <title>Title</title> <description>Description</description>[code].....
i have created a plain text files loads from an external file. I am facing one problem which is the text does not load unless someone select the button. I will like the text to show as soon as someone enters the page
//Plain text files loads from an external file var textLoader:URLLoader;function loadStory(evt:MouseEvent):void{ textLoader = new URLLoader();
the best way to do it but i have a preloader the loads an external swf that loads 2 external swf files. one on layer o and the other 1.it seems to load the swf on layer 1 twice.url...if i run the swf that loads the 2 external swf files by it's self and the same problem happens.mouse over the navagation button and then mouse over the close button and follow the animation down to were it turns back into the navagation button. sometimes the close stays up.if i run the swf file that just contains the navagation it dosen't happen.
i've got a problem. i have an external text which loads and displays normally only when that frame is loaded for first time. i'm using getDate because it changes every day. it's peculiar because all of other texts which are external also,always load just fine (first time and every time when return to previously visited frame).
basically sending and recieving variables from a php page. I want to be able to specify what my textbox on frame 5 says in the onLoad statement. Is this possible?
Currently the only way I have been able to get the text to display is either to use the textbox variable and declare that in the onload statement, or to put textbox.text = mylogin.message; on the actual frame.I doubt there is a way to do it, because the actual textbox hasn't be created yet, but if there were a way, that would be nice.

Lets say I have subgallery.swf file that loads jpeg images. And I have gallery.swf file that loads subgallery.swf.The jpeg images and both swf files are in the same folder.When I test gallery.swf it loads subgallery.swf but subgallery.swf doesn't load images. When testing subgallery.swf alone, it loads jpeg files.Is there any limitation or setting preventing external swfs loading other content?

I am using CS3 / AS3 to create a kiosk app. As part of the kiosk I need to create an external file that I can append with visitor comments (2 text fields and 2 radio buttons). These would then be approved by a museum administrator and copied over to another text file that gets read into the kiosk and displayed. I'm not having any trouble reading in an external file, but I'm finding so many conflicting things about writing an external file with AS3.
So i have an external text file organized like this:
/* $file: data.txt */ &title0=Sacrum &detail0=Detail text for Sacrum &title1=L5
[Code].....
There are 28 of these 'title' and 'detail' pairs. The 'title' text is to fill a dynamic text box and the 'detail' to fill another dynamic text box depending on which section the user is mousing over.
My issue is getting the text from the file stored into arrays. For my test loop I keep getting undefined as the stored value, and i know it has something to do with converting a string value to object..
var lv:LoadVars = new LoadVars(); lv.onLoad = handleDataLoad; lv.load('data.txt'); function handleDataLoad (success:Boolean) {
I'm trying to make a text box that loads text from a text file. I've accomplished that, and now I want to have it so when I click a button is loads another var from the file by changing the end number. Here is my code:
myNotes = new LoadVars(); myNotes.onLoad = function() { i =1 ;
I've been trying to develop a simple project to learn how to use external CSS to style a TextBox. I've tried lots of examples and just can't get this to work. Some say use external text files, some put the content text in the actionsript, but my text box still does not style or display the content. to a tutorial (text, not video) that works and is not overly complex?
I'm trying to create an url to a word inside a dynamic textbox but I'm not sure how to do that. I'm familiar with TextFormats, etc. but that only apply to the textbox and not to a word or a sentence inside that textbox. Or have I been misguided??
I have tried to work on a simple form with Flash Builder 4, but was stuck in creating the dynamic addition of the instance for a textbox and combobox within a Hbox.I have created an HBox component with a textbox and a combo box. I then create a button Add new Row, to add a new row of Hbox on the runtime.
May I know how can I create the add to make it able to add new hbox component on clicking of the button, such that when i click the hbox 3 times, I should have 3 rows of the component instance and the button is still at the bottom of these components?
I have really no idea how to do this, but i have a textbox and a button.When this button is clicked, i want it to add "<b>" before the currently selected text in the textbox. How would i go by this?
I am trying to create html links from a external xml file to be dynamically added to a text field (im using flash builder)the process i am having trouble is: -Loading an external swf which contains the textfield loading external xml which contains the cdata with links adding the cdata to the htmltext property of the textfield the link is showing correctly, the mouse turns into a hand... but when i click on the link it doesnt work. i have seen a few forum posts similar to this problem but all are using textfield control in flash builder but im trying to add the cdata into an externally loaded swf which holds the textfield.
