I spent almost a week trying to figure out how to unload a currently loaded swf using its button and loading a new swf... I have three files, a main.fla, file1.fla and file2.fla. In my main.fla, I have a code which loads the other two files. If i will click the "unload" button in the file1.swf, I would like the main.fla to unload the file1.swf and load the other file, file2.swf. Here is the code to load the file1.swf:
First of all, right now I have 2 buttons, which are defined as buttons. Clicking on button1 loads swf1, clicking button2 unloads swf1 and loads swf2. Heres the basic code for that transition which is pasted ON the button...
on (release) { if (_root.currMovie == undefined) { _root.currMovie = "F2"; container.loadMovie("F2.swf"); } else if (_root.currMovie != "F2") { if (container._currentframe >= container.midframe) { _root.currMovie = "F2"; container.play(); }}}
This works like a charm, no problems. The problem I am having is that I need the button (which will eventually be a part of an animated drop down menu) to have more functionality. When I try to make a movieclip button, no variation of this code above will work to load the swf. I am totally lost. Here is the latest incarnation of the movie clip button code. This version is in the timeline, but I've tried variations directly on the movie clip as well
mc_HeightTest.onPress = HeightMovie function HeightMovie(){ if (_root.currMovie == undefined) { _root.currMovie = "F2"; container.loadMovie("F2.swf"); } else if (_root.currMovie != "F2") { if (container._currentframe >= container.midframe) { _root.currMovie = "F2"; container.play(); }}}
Why the code pasted on the button will not work when its used in conjunction with a movie clip button?
In my main .swf I have labels on the timeline, navs for those btns are on the first frame of the AS layer and each button sends the playhead to a different frame. On one frame called fr1 there is an mc called mc_1 that appears on stage when the playhead stops there. Inside mc_1 are a set of navigation buttons that need to call external .swfs.
Do I add event listeners on the last frame of mc_1 for each button? how do I call the loaders for the swfs on the buttons since the swfs will load on the main timeline NOT the mc_1 timeline?
So label on main timeline called fr1 will load external1 swf , on fr10 external 2.swf will load and so on.
I am having trouble trying to use actionscript to load different files when different values are changed. I am currently using a tilelist and they have different values so the code is something like this: (the title is just there, non-related)
if (startTileList.selectedItem.value == 1) { //textFile1 load here[code].........
So I want different text files to be loaded when different value is selected but I cannot seem to get it working.
I'm using LoadVars to load an external file that has one variable containing an array with a few sub arrays. Code: var externalData:LoadVars = new LoadVars(); externalData.onLoad = function() { var sectArray:Array = externalData.sectArray; }; externalData.load("portfolio.txt"); But every time I try to get one of the values I get "undefined". is there another way?
I'm attempting to put together a 'French Accents' keypad (basically a few buttons that insert a French character into a textfield when pressed). At the moment im having the following issues with it:
The french characters always appear at the end of the string despite where the cursor is focused.
I can't get the cursor/caret to focus after any letter generated by a press of a button rather than a keyboard input.
Here is my current button code:
ActionScript Code: on(release){ //The getCaretIndex method returns the index of the blinking insertion point (caret) position.
How I can load an external .txt document into a designated dynamic text box in my flash document. I've tried the two tutorials I could find on flashkit.com and neither of them worked for me. I did everything as told and still the text file didn't load. When I enter the actionscript into the editor, I'll click check syntax and I get an error!
Here's the code I have in the first frame of my actions layer: stop(); loadText = new loadVars(); loadText.load("updates.txt"); //creating the loadVarsText function loadText.onLoad = function() { [Code] .....
Here's what the error is: **Warning** Symbol=text, layer=actions, frame=1:Line 2: The identifier 'loadVars' will not resolve to built-in object 'LoadVars' at runtime. loadText = new loadVars(); Total ActionScript Errors: 1 Reported Errors: 1
I have a series of buttons that when clicked will enter a character into a dynamic textfield. Here is my code:
on (release) { //if the focus is on the answer text box if (_root.answerFocus) {
[code]...
This works but I dont know how to get round the following issues: Once a button is pressed the cursor moves out of the textbox once the character is placed inside, each character always goes to the end of my text line (as += implies but I can't find a workaround).
I've got a movieclip with a blank dynamic textbox inside. On frame 1 of this movieclip, I have the actionscript to load the contents of an external .txt file into the dynamic textbox. The problems are:
1. I have an <img> tag in the external .txt that doesn't work (actually, the text does wrap around where the img is supposed to be in the dynamic textbox, but the img itself is not appearing. 2. All <p> tags don't work, but <br> does. 3. I have an ampersand (&) in the .txt file and all text is cut off at that point when loaded into the dynamic textbox. I've tried escaping it (&) and using & to no avail.
I've managed to piece together a flash website with my limited as3 knowledge. The text is loaded from external text files and styled with an external css file.
It's working perfectly in Firefox and Explorer but it only works SOME of the time in Safari (on my mac).It's hit and miss. Sometimes it styles the text sometimes it doesn't.
where i can find Dynamic Text Effect Tutorials. I'm trying to create a textbox that loads external text and, upon loading, displays the text like its being typed. In addition the new letters fade from white to a shade of blue, and lastly as the letters are being typed a sound clip is played per typed letter.
Lets say I have subgallery.swf file that loads jpeg images. And I have gallery.swf file that loads subgallery.swf.The jpeg images and both swf files are in the same folder.When I test gallery.swf it loads subgallery.swf but subgallery.swf doesn't load images. When testing subgallery.swf alone, it loads jpeg files.Is there any limitation or setting preventing external swfs loading other content?
I encountered a strange thing when experimenting with attachMovie. So, here's the deal: 2 button, 1 mc_colder. Each button onPress loads a different MC into the holder ( mc1 and mc2 ). Beside those 2 buttons that load the 2 MCs i have 2 more buttons that should remove the loaded MC. Nothing bad until now, loading, removing works fine, but a problem occurs if I click one of the 2 loading buttons twice.. Example: I pess the first buttons once, and loads mc1, i press button 2, loads mc2, i remove both mcs, now, i press button 1 again, loads mc1, i press buton 1 again ( and it should load the mc again or do nothing ? ) but when i want to remove this MC it won't. How can I fix this? Or how can I tell flash not to attach the MC again, once it has already been loaded? I tried a few tricks but nothing yet. I'll keep experimenting with it.

I'm trying to have an external loaded swf unload when other buttons on the main swf are clicked. i finally managed to get an external swf to load with a button using AS3, now I just can't figure out how to get it to go away when the other buttons on the main swf are clicked. Here is my code so far:
Code: Select allquote4.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, goquote4); function goquote4 (e:MouseEvent) { var loadit = new Loader();
Structure: There is 1 main file that loads external SWF files depending on what is clicked on.One of the external SWF files loads its text from external text files. This works fine when viewing the SWF applet on its own. But when viewing as a whole site, the text doesnt appear. Very annoying.I made that particular SWF on my mums computer running Flash MX 2004The flash file itself uses the Scrollbar component from MX.Could someone tell me why the text doesnt load in this scenario? It runs fine on its own, just not as an external SWF.
I have a drop down menu whereby the clicking of a button causes it to move to a specific keyframe in the timeline. I also have multiple buttons which load external swf files.The problem is when i navigate to the drop down menu the loaded external files keep dissapering because they are not on the keyframe where the drop down menu is actuated. Is there any way of coding it so that which ever swf file is loaded remains there whilst the drop down menu moves to its specific stage in the timeline?
basically sending and recieving variables from a php page. I want to be able to specify what my textbox on frame 5 says in the onLoad statement. Is this possible?
Currently the only way I have been able to get the text to display is either to use the textbox variable and declare that in the onload statement, or to put textbox.text = mylogin.message; on the actual frame.I doubt there is a way to do it, because the actual textbox hasn't be created yet, but if there were a way, that would be nice.

I have a flash component that is an image gallery. I want to have multiple image galleries on my site, but instead of multiple instances of the component, I want to have multiple buttons that can be clicked that will load in different xml files to populate the component.
Would code like this do something like that: var eventListener = new Object(); eventListener.button_click = function (evnt){ trace("Button clicked");} myGallery.addEventListener("button_click", eventListener);
I am currently doing a project that to create a full flash website. The website contains a preloader, an introduction movie, and dynamically loads external swfs when click the menu buttons. I am struggling with the preloader part. My preloader movie does not shown until 50% and disappears at 90%. I have searched for solutions on the internet for days but could not find any. I attached my source file as well as the swf.
