Creating / Controlling Line Of Text Turned Into Button

How do I create and control a line of text that i turned into a button. I want to have a selected state built into the button. is that possible? Previously I created a light next to the text that changes color or highlights when the button had been selected, but I would like the text to change color when it is selected and have script that I can use to reset the button state when another button is selected.

I am trying to load various swfs into a main swf. The initial swf loads in by default, the others load when buttons are clicked. All of the buttons also call a lengthy function called loadpic which appears later in the code - Currently the buttons load in the swfs as required, however the swfs are always behind the initial default swf. Is there a way to add removeChild to the buttons? I have tried creating seperate functions for each button and added the line removeChild(); however doing that means I would also have to repeat all of the later functions as well. If I add removeChild(); without placing it in a function the default swf doesn't show at all.
I am using an SWC library so that I could use the fl.controls.TextArea in my project in FlashDevelop. While working on an unrelated section of my code I noticed that all my TextArea objects had turned extremely blurry (both the text and the UI elements). I'm not sure when this started, but when I first added and setup the TextArea I spent a lot of time tweaking and configuring it and didn't have any issues with the sharpness of the object.
I now have radio dials on my radio which rotate when the user presses the left and right arrow keys. I now am trying to update the numbers in a display window of the radio so that as the user turns the knob the digital numbers in the radio will increase or decrease accordingly.

I have an array called dropTarg1 which stores dropped-in items.I want to loop through this array and in a textfield, display each array item on a new line of this text fieldI think I need to use something like Array.join("/n") but I can't get it working properly. I hope that the /n would create a new line of the text field called reviewBoxContentText.
Is there a way, for a Button's "label" field, to display text over several lines? Or else to automatically "wrap" the text in several lines instead of cutting part of it?
i am still new in dealing with flash and what have you posted is very useful, but i want to ask you a question regarding the button function. i want to relate a button with a certain text but it's a big paragraph so when i have made the example on the site the display in the output box is not good enough i want the text to be displayed as a paragraph not a straight line.
I am fairly new with using FlashCS5. I just finished the class and created a button with text in it for class but now when I need to do it for a project I can't seem to get it to work.I am trying to create a simple start and stop button to start and stop a Flash movie.I can get the buttons to work without any text, such as the word start and stop in the middle of each.Everything I've tried to do with the text on the button turns out the same.What happens is that in Flash the buttons appear to work fine The little hand with the finger shows no matter where I place my cursor on the button but when I test them the area where the text is does not allow the click to work. I have tried specifying a hit area and made sure that the hit area was larger than the entire button but still the middle where the text is doesn't work.
I'm loading a xml file into a text field, now how can I tranform it to a button with the same file I loaded? Do I have to do a other button with the same var?
I'm trying to create a dynamic text field contained in a button symbol.
I created a box then added text on top of it. I then selected dynamic text, gave it an instance name, and chose all for embedded characters. I select both the box and dynamic text then convert to symbol (button) and give it an instance name.
I'd like to create a Hangman game, only instead of having the player enter a letter, I'd like to have 26 clickable buttons on the screen. Now, I could make 26 symbols, but that seems ridiculous when I could create a letter_button.as class and just create 26 instances of letter_button, where I can just do something like letter_button.letter_id to get the value. That part's easy. The hard part is, uh. Well. 1- How do I create a button that will accept dynamic text? How do I add these buttons to the stage? Will parent.addChild(new letter_button(letter)) work? Or do I need something else?
Here's how far I've gotten in my solution, tell me if I'm barking up the wrong tree. To begin, I created a button called "Letter_Button". It has a text field on it called "letter_text". It's a MovieClip and it links to Letter_Button.as
THE CODE ABOVE DOES NOT WORK ,I want to create 10 moveiclips each with unique name, which I can move around or maybe load things into later. At the moment the trace returns 'undefined' so the movieclips aren't even being created.
in Flash CS4 I have static text like: Line1 and line2 It's in 9 point Arial Regular as a device font. If I set the line spacing below 3.9 the second line dissappears from the compiled SWF file. It still shows in the FLA file. The same thing happens at 6pt but NOT at 5pt or less.
Is it possible to load a text file using line breaks as a delimeter rather than having a &var= at the beginning of each line? Like by a for instance? I have a text file with about 1000 lines that I need to load/display.
When a Dynamic Multiple line text field is used in Flash CS3, it has a very annoying feature that auto inserts a line break at the end of inserted text. It also auto inserts a line break if no text is entered too.
I'm having a problem with this because the text is being saved from flash to a text file on the desktop. With every multi-line text field there's a nasty looking line break.
Any way of "turning off" this auto-line-break-at-the-end feature?

The problem is I receive a "Symbol 'Structure Summary', Layer 'Actions', Frame 29, Line 19 1119: Access of possibly undefined property SELECT through a reference with static type flash.events:MouseEvent." in regards to the line "MyNotes.addEventListener(Event.SELECT, onFileSelected);". I've done some research and understand this is something to do with the parent not being identified as a MovieClip, or something along those lines.
Basically I want the user to be able to create a line on runtime by first pressing mouse_down on the stage estabilisting the first xy points of the line and then move the cursor somewhere else to a different x, y co-ordinate where the user finishes the line by pressing the mouse_down button again. How to do this? I need it to be a straight line

I'd like to create cool lines and bars charts dynamically, from xml data. Since I'm not an expert in Flash, I wanted to get a tool to accomplish this. So far, I've tried Flex Builder 3, but I can't figure how to draw the chart dynamically, as the xml data is constantly changing. I just see examples on the internet with xml like "Orange, Banana, Apple", when what I'd like to see is something like "......" and get each item's value and attributes to show in the chart.
