View 1 RepliesWhenever I am trying to do, the button rollover work, and put the dynamic text on top of it. The area outside the text is reacting to the rollover, but when I rollover on the text, I lost the rollover effect of the button under.The only way I have found to work around this, is to create another mc, invisible, on top and covering the button and create a script to activate the button rollover effect under... but is it the only way?
I don't have to do all this with static text, but the font react bad with rollovers or some other effects.

2) Can the below functions be merged into one?I've tried merging them into one using IF statements, for example:

However this does not work, and gives an error.
3) I had to get the background to display by moving to the next frame. I could not work out how to get the textbox to appear at a specific XY, or how to get the textbox to disappear after a rollover. Is there a better way to do this, or is what I'm doing acceptable? (NOTE: Textbox is a Movieclip)

I'm trying to create a dynamic text field contained in a button symbol.
I created a box then added text on top of it. I then selected dynamic text, gave it an instance name, and chose all for embedded characters. I select both the box and dynamic text then convert to symbol (button) and give it an instance name.
How do I access the dynamic text I created?

I'd like to create a Hangman game, only instead of having the player enter a letter, I'd like to have 26 clickable buttons on the screen. Now, I could make 26 symbols, but that seems ridiculous when I could create a letter_button.as class and just create 26 instances of letter_button, where I can just do something like letter_button.letter_id to get the value. That part's easy. The hard part is, uh. Well. 1- How do I create a button that will accept dynamic text? How do I add these buttons to the stage? Will parent.addChild(new letter_button(letter)) work? Or do I need something else?

So Im developping a video player that I can reuse in my projects.
The video player contains both .as files and graphical assets (buttons, loading bar, etc). And the graphical assets need to be styled for each project.
Right now the approach Im thinking of is having a base videoplayer.fla, and importing the library items into my new fla, and modifying the graphical assets manually there.
The other option Im thinking of is compiling a swc, but afaik the styling would become more complicated and more limited to colors, fonts, and such.
I have been working on creating a package of reusable code for myself. I frequently create projects that have a set of panels, which I re-skin for each particular project, and each panel has its own body of functionality.There are about 10 different panels that could be used in a given project, but not each panel is used in every project. Some projects use 5, some use 8, some 10 etc. My problem is that when migrating the panels to a new project, I don't nessicarily want to have every single panel in the library with appropriate exports etc. if it's not going to be used in the project.

I don't have to have panel1, panel2.....panel10 in the library if i'm only activating 1, 3, and 5!If i don't have those items in the library i get all kinds of undefined properties buttons etc. Everything that in the MC that gets exported.
I created a button in Illustrator and imported to my Flash library. The button has drop shadows, overlay and gradients. It imports and previews just fine until I change it to a button. When I go to preview it, there are these thick red boxes that seems to incase every layer of the button?
View 3 RepliesI'm basically looking to create some buttons that once 'rollover'd' grow slightly, and shrink again once 'rollout'd' and I am hoping to add a little bounce (or I believe its called elastic) once it snaps back. I am a beginner, but have created buttons before with rollover, rollout etc but arent sure how to create the motion of it growing in the button. (I am using Flash CS4 and was intending AS3, but happy to use whatever is recommended for this.) I did use this site tutorial [URL], but I wasn't sure which AS or CS it was using. Everything worked but the motion of the growing.
View 8 RepliesI'm trying to create a reusable button like it was possible in ActionScript 2 using the Var of a dynamic text box, hence allowing me to chose the name of the button and its link inside the HTML and pass these variables on to the swf file. This therefore means less traffic, and faster load times.

I'm trying to make the code below reusable. I need multiple toggle buttons in my flash project. Right now the code below works on one button. If I continue and create more buttons, and follow the format below, I would need to create separate functions for each button.

I want to generate a mc for each rep with 6 text fields containg the 6 values for eash rep.So for this xml there would be 3 mc's with 6 text fields in each. This is one of my first times really diving in to xml parsing in Flash.
I have a scrolling dynamic text box, in which i have alot of information. I am trying to create a rollover effect for just a couple of words within this.
eg. Bla Bla Bla Bla Bla Bla Bla Bla Bla Bla Link Bla Bla Bla Link Bla Bla Bla
I know how to create button rollovers but that seems a bit tedious if im going to constantly change the content and links.I have added links that work and have colored them to show users they are links but id like a simple rollOver color change to occur when the user navigates over them. I have seen this done in many flash sites and have been searching for days without any luck.
Do i need to call external CSS or an xml/txt file to do this as there is no option to add actionscripting to selected text within the box.
Basically I'm using the code below to change the colour of the text in a movie clip that I'm using as a button. This works fine, but I have 8 buttons in my navigation and at the moment have to duplicate this code for each one. How to turn the colour change code into a function that I can reuse?

As a test, I'm loading images (or references to images, more accurately) from an external XML file into Flash, each image representing where a thumbnail might appear in a portfolio, for example. I can get that to work fine. I have a couple of problems with the way the images appear, though. For one thing, when the 95 px X 95 px images are brought into the dynamically created 100 px X 100 px movieclips I have set for them, the JPGs stretch to fit... is this because I'm using the loadMovie method? The main difficulty I have, though, is my inability to get these individual movieclips containing JPG images to exhibit rollover and rollout behavior dynamically... without disturbing the image contained within.
Here's the code I have right now; my lame attempt at a dynamic rollover behavior is the for.. loop at the bottom, which is non-functional, by the way.

I'm currently working on a flashsite and are trying to figure out rollover menu buttons. The site has 6 menu buttons and are placed next to each other. I want to put a rollover action on the buttons, that when you rollover a button that the whole button image enlarges and moves in front of the other.

I have it working (see code below) however when the cursor is over the field and the cursor moves slightly over the area (still keeping it invisible) the cursor flickers between the normal arrow pointer and the text cursor. Is there a way I can stop this? Is there a better way to do this rollover that would prevent it?

I am trying to pass information to a many dynamic text fields when rolling over various movieclips that are generated using a loop. I have tried everything I know but can not get pahting to work prpoerly. The rollover works in that the curser changes by does not execute the lines of code within the in line function.(see red, bolded text (towards bottom) for problem). the Attached zipped swf is what it looks like as is.

I have a scrolling dynamic text box that has a list of links in it. They all have a different link added for each line in the list but I have been asked to make them change colour on rollover. Normally I would just create a button and rollover but I can't as the text is scrolling. Is there a way of adding AS2 or even css that means I can make each link change colour on RollOver?
View 2 RepliesOkay, now things are getting a little complicated. I need to build a Flash object that can sit over the corner of an image to serve extra content. It's way beyond my Flash skill level, my work is usually limited to print work in Photoshop and Illustrator so please excuse me if any of the following isn't clear. I am trying to learn though, So this is how it's all supposed to work, along with my issues; When the image & Flash item load a small looping animation will play to draw the eye/show the item as interactive.
When the user rolls over this the corner will peelback. I have a working peelback animation for the rollover, that reacts to mouse over/mouse off, and a looping animation for the initial, but I cannot work out how to make the initial loop until mouseover, then play the peelback when the mouse is over. And go back to the initial animation loop if the user rolls off. (Each of these animations is stored as a movie clip in the Library)
Then it gets more complicated... if the user stays on the corner until it is fully peeled back I need to make a small countdown (sort of a 3, 2, 1 situation) show, before launching a lightbox (would this have to be jQuery, or could it be done in Flash?) in the browser to serve the content.

On my stage, I have a movieclip, in the movieclip (movieclip A), I have a dynamic text box and {another movieclip with buttons in it} (movieclip B). How do I rollover a button in movieclip B so that the dynamic text box in movieclip A will show a word. For example, I rollover the 'News' button and the text box will show the word 'news' I have tried

I want to rollover a button and have it trigger the rollover state of another button. The buttons overlap. The one on top is transparent and smaller than the bottom button. So far I think I have the AS3 to handle the rollover of the top button, but I don't know how to trigger the other button's rollover state.

I create a button(MC) and want to duplicate it and easily change the text inside this button... basically I have an mc that acts as a button so inside the mc I have text that I added that animates on mouse rollover. Now I duplicate this mc in the library go into the mc and want to change the text, and when I do, the text in the original button also changes. This happens because the text is a Tween so it's using the same tween from the library for the new button. Is there a quick way to avoid this? I don't see anyway other than typing in the text again in the new button and animating it again.
View 6 RepliesI need to give a value, then when I give another value, the actionscript goes to the new value slowly.So if I give 10, then I give 20, the value goes 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20. Basically I'm creating a dynamic menu that when a button is highlighted, a vine grows to the button. When you highlight the button next to it, the vine grows to the next button. I can't think of a way for this to work other than this value smoothing technique.
