So that all I would have to do is place some sort of "highlighter" tag in a post, then the xml file would be updated, thus a new link appear in the news ticker? I guess if I some how had rss for a tag, that then the xml was read into the flash file.

However, this movie clip is attached to the menu_mc so I'm stumped as to what I should exactly target for the fuse sequence (or any mx.transition/zigo engine based code-tweening process for that matter).

I've attached the files in a .zip for people to look at (and possibly conquer my problem!

ActionScript 3.0 :: Creating Links Automatically Between SWF Files

Jan 13, 2009

I've been given a bunch of .swf (about 100) that I need to link together. Rather than doing it manually, old-school style, I decided to write a document class that will sort the content, animate transitions and create links automatically. The basic idea is that all content on the stage conforms to a naming convention whereby all buttons are prefixed with "btn_" + nameofswf.swf - the code recognises this and adds event listeners. The background image is simply called "background". I might add some further functionality later for rollovers, depending on what I need. As a frame script, the code works perfectly - it's when I converted into a class the fun begins.

The code:
package hair {
import fl.transitions.Tween;
import fl.transitions.easing.*;
import fl.motion.easing.*;
import flash.events.*;

ActionScript 2.0 :: Flash Automatically Creating An Instance Of Class?

Sep 4, 2009

I am building a simple tamagotchi - alike application in AS2 and Flash is acting kind of weird on me. Lets say i have a .fla file with all my animations called Kitty.fla, then I have an external .as file called Kitty.as which contains a Kitty class with the itty(attribut i need to give it) function.On the 1st frame on the timeline i have the following:var kitty:Kitty = new Kitty('my attribute');when compiling the movie, flash automatically creates an instance of Kitty but WITHOUT my attribute (its given a default value specified in the code) and then proceeds with the instance according to what i wrote above. So at the end i basically end up with two kitties, one with default attribute and second with the attribute specified by me, while I only need the one with the specified attrribute

Program Uninstalled But Folder Keeps Creating Automatically On Reboot

May 23, 2010

Anyways, I started playing with flash applications a while back, and had a folder on my desktop to keep all the finished ones in, and eventually windows deemed it a default flash folder. I used to run the apps in SWF max, until I finally got flash to load them up in the player again, so I uninstalled that. I also went ahead last night to tidy up my files, and among that, I moved the folder with my flash games from my desktop to a sub folder in my documents. Now however, when I log back into the computer after a reboot, a folder called "Flash Games" (the name of the folder I kept them in) keeps creating itself. The only contents is its Desktop.ini file, the contents of which are:

[.ShellClassInfo]
IconFile=C:Program FilesSWF.maxSWF.max.exe
IconIndex=4
InfoTip=My Flash Folder: Your default folder with flash movies

So ultimately, I figured well it wasn't windows deeming it the default flash, but that silly program I'd already removed. (There are no traces of it in my program files anymore either) I have not as yet went through both registry and the rest of the computer to remove those traces yet, but I doubt there will be many, it was a portable program.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Creating Slideshow That Automatically Changes Frame After Certain Time

Jul 8, 2010

This is my first flash project and I am attempting to create a slide show that automatically changes frame after a certain time, but also have buttons for each frame. [URL] is the page where i have the flash slideshow on. I used a tutorial to make the nav bar, and used what I learned there, as well as some googling to attempt the slideshow. So far I think its turned out pretty good, but I have a problem. THe buttons work fine, but the auto change gets stuck on the second slide, even if I click to a differnet button to goes back to frame 2. Which makes me think that the function doesn't even go past the if(frame==1). here is the code

Code:
import fl.transitions.Tween;
import fl.transitions.easing.*;
import flash.events.MouseEvent;
var img1FadeIn:Tween = new Tween(img1, "alpha", Strong.easeOut, 0, 1, 5, true);
stop();
var slideTimer = setInterval(nextslide, 8000);

ActionScript 2.0 :: [FMX04] XML News Ticker With 2 Different Text Fields?

Nov 15, 2006

I'd like to add a second news ticker text field right beneath the first one that loads its headlines from a different XML file. So my question is this -- (not very XML savy mind you...) How would I need to adjust the AS code to be able to have both text fields going at the same time? What parts of the AS code can be omitted? (to not have redundant functions) Is there anything I should be aware of that might be cancelling out the second text field from running? At this point, I can get only one of the tickers working at a time -- the other just sits empty.

ActionScript 2.0 :: News Scroller - Center Justifying Dynamic Text

Jan 6, 2005

I have this news scroller for work - Vertical member (160 X 600) And the idea is that it has 3 text fields (Headlines). These fields are lined up vertically (one at the top of the scroller, one at the middle, and one at the bottom.). I load them dynamically from XML, and after about 5 seconds, I have them all move up. (the top one goes up the top, and comes back from the bottom, the other two move up). The problem is that I am trying to center justify them. When they're loaded I can center justify them, using this code:

Code:
MovieClip.prototype.centerFunction = function() {
format = new TextFormat();
format.align = "center";
_root.news2.headline2_txt.setTextFormat(format);
_root.news3.headline3_txt.setTextFormat(format);
_root.news1.headline1_txt.setTextFormat(format);
}

Now, when they are first center justified by the code, they look slightly off, and once they move they arrange themselves correctly.

ActionScript 2.0 :: News Style Scroller - Text And Audio Clips

Feb 3, 2007

I've got a news-style scroller that has audio clips and text loaded in via an XML file. The text works fine and I can read the string of the mp3 file to play, but if I actually hit play, it only plays the LAST listed mp3 in the array instead of the one that should be playing.

Here's some code:
stop();
MovieClip.prototype.mV = function() {
this.onRollOver = function() {
this.t.colorTo(0x815249, .5);
this.roller.gotoAndPlay("over");
[Code] .....

What's happening is when you click the play button, it only plays the last song named in the XML file, and doesn't link to the correct url, but all the text is in the correct places.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Vertical News Scroller - Fade Out When Text Reaches At End

Jul 13, 2009

I'm creating a vertical news scroller, that will eventually load in from an external text file and then just scroll the text in a movie clip vertically. I have this working but I have a couple of questions.

1. As the text reaches the end of the scroll I want it to start to fade out, I've added a IF statement to do this but it doesn't seem to fire. Why is this?
2. Even though I don't have any easing the scroll seems to slow down as its nearing the end of the animation, do you know why this is happening?

Code:
import gs.TweenLite;
import gs.easing.*;
var myTimer:Timer = new Timer(0,1);
myTimer.addEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER, scrollNow);
myTimer.start();

ActionScript 2.0 :: CS3 News Ticker XML To Load Four Time - Copy Text - An Image - Date And A URL

Mar 2, 2010

I'm making a very simple news ticker that uses XML to load four items: copy text, an image, date and a URL. The script was pieced together from tutorials and a bit of self-teaching, so I know it's probably not great. The AS is pasted below. Everything loads just fine, but the button script returns an "undefined" error. I assume this is because the item is no longer found in the array, but I'm not entirely sure. I also think it may be that the loadMovie method isn't working well with a specific item in the array. Also the link does not work. *Note* I know there are probably more advanced ways to tackle this but I'd like to keep this at my learning level so I can grow with it. :-)

Beginner - Animate Color Fill Of Object Or Text

Dec 15, 2009

I am struggling to find a way to animate a fill of text in Flash CS4.  The concept I am looking for is that over a time period have the color rise from the bottom to the top.  My initial attempt was to have 2 objects, one filled with the color and the other filled with white.  I was hoping to just adjust the borders of the object or text to have it disappear, but that just reshapes the object, not cropping it.  If you know how to crop into objects and reveal the object beneath, let me know.

I am very new to Flash so hopefully it is a simple answer, but I am not seeing it yet.
