I am a middle school teacher and would like to create a Flash Jeopardy game for the teachers at our school to use on our school website.I would like a game similar to the game on url..I have been able to successfully create a flash jeopardy game that uses a xml file.My problem is that I have to have a swf file and an xml file for every game we create.I want to be able to have one swf file that will load many different Jeopardy games.I am using Flash CS3, Dreamweaver CS3, and MySQL.The files I have created are here: url...

I'd like to know if there's a way to take data entered into a field in flash, save it, and call it later via an object.I don't want anyone to walk me through it if there is, that's not what I'm asking. I'm just asking what I need to know in order to do this. I'd like to build a certain flash app that takes information (such as a name, paragraph, and/or sentence) saves it, and can then be recalled when a user clicks a button... even if the user has closed out the application.I'm still relatively new to flash, I know enough to get by on basic projects, but I want to expand my knowledge so I don't end up stuck in a beginners rut.Would this require using PHP and Flash? Or can it be done entirely in flash via exporting data to a designated external file?

First time on here.We teach English through games. All done on flash AS3 now. Want to put courses online so I have been told to use php to communicate to server and database. My question is:Do I use mysql to save stats or xml FIRST: I will get info from xml and send it to my activities in flash - I'm OK with thisSECOND: I want to send out stats from flash to mysql OR xml. The stats are:1. Student logs on of course using username and password (well that comes in not out)2. What lesson the student is on ie: 2, 3, etc...3. Highscores for game activities4. Scores student gets on each activity As far as I can see the only stats that grow are the scores on each activity and even those could be erased periodically.

I'm aiming to integrate KML geodata. Why won't this work? I just want to create one Node for each <placemark> tag in the xml.
The xml Data trace gets:

I would like to create a Word Document and import that word document into Flash. I'm not talking about data integration from an outside file, but literally taking text from a text/word document and Flash create the timelines and tweens based on paragraph breaks, etc. Is there a component available that will do this. I have foreign Flash developers that don't understand English very well, and we have 6 to 10 minute movies that are basically text.This would increase our production significantly.

I have a video player that is currently using XML for its video library which is all fine and dandy. Now I have some developers working on a CMS type page in PHP that is going to hopefully pass some sort of information to my player that will let it know where the video is stored on our server. Is there a way to do this without using FMS? If so does anyone have ideas where I can find the information for it.

I'd like to create one empty Flash movie that is essentially a placeholder for externally loaded content I can change through XML. This content would just be able to randomly load 1 of 3 photos, with a button linking to a website within each of the photos on page load. If the user refreshes the page, a new photo with it's link would appear, but I understand since it's random,having 3 images the same image is likely to reappear, but I can always add additional photos and links.
Does anyone know of a tutorial that might lead me on the correct path to create this? I've found some tuts, but they've been different than my need.

We want to be able to upload over 100+ files (if needed) to a server along with desc + keywords. I see that Flash 8 has the neccessary tools to handle file uploading, but my question is, can we have it act as a Stand alone FTP program so that we can utilize the fastest user upload, or will we be confined to the settings in the server INI settings.IE MAX_UPLOAD_TIME,MAX_FILESIZE, etc. If possible we want to avoid using the HTTP upload as it is noticeably slower. So if we can use flash to utilize user BW to upload, then that would be ideal.

I got a music portfolio web site running PHP, MySQL and Flash. There's a page showing all the artists my client worked for and when you click on a song title, this title is passed as a variable to a PHP page then to a Flash page. The Flash page contains an actionscript music player which then looks for the right audio file in the database and plays the song. Everything works great except for the dynamic text field which displays the song title. If the song title contains an apostrophe or a single quote, the Flash dynamic text field then shows the apostrophe.[code]

Im trying to use dynamic SQL tables on my PHP server so I need to pass the table name to the PHP script. I don't understand why the Data Management system that sets up CRUD won't allow this extra parameter. It says it can only have one input: item. I can get all records, but when I try to create, update, or delete I get an error.
Or is there another way I can pass the tablename variable to the php file before I call any functions?

Im new to placing external data into Flash. I just got CS3 and Im trying to use Flash to dynamically load XML data via a FlashVars call in the HTML.
The problem is I have followed the very straight forward AS2 Help files for using FlashVars and URL variables.I have placed the code directly from the Help file into the Html between

I'm trying to read some data in from a sql source, some of which contains double quotes embedded in the text. I know I can strip the doublequotes, but don't want to go that route if I can avoid it. I've tried replacing to double quotes with hex codes before passing the text via parameter to my flash file, but the text string always cuts off at the hex code, the same as if the double quote were present in the string. I will be creating a program to use for data entry. I'll be studying zebras in kenya and I won't have the internet there as I'm recording the data. I'd like to be able to send the data I generate in flash to an external text file. I understand I need some sort of script to do that, but is this something I can run just on my machine? I'm creating a small app to run from CD-Rom/local installation that will use multiple shared objects for data storage. To ensure proper saving without surprising the user with a permissions dialog unexpectedly, I'd like to request unlimited data storage on first time app launch - Joey Lott shows how to do this in the Actionscript Cookbook... request=mySO.flush(1024 * 500);
My question is,Can I perform this permissions request with the user a single time with a generic app SO in global fashion, so that the permissions would be set for any SOs created during the use of the product (all written to same SO directory),or do I have to request
permissions for each and every SO created? Since the latter would be unacceptable from a UE standpoint, that means stuffing all app data into a single SO which doesn't seem so great from a data config perspective...

We have implemented a Flash photo slideshow on our site and it works just fine for most of our users. Whenever the xml.load(success) returns false I have the Flash email me a debug report. For the life of me I can not find a common thread between all of these people having problems with the Flash. I don't think it's a cross-domain issue because it works for most people, and I have the crossdomain.xml files where they should be.

I have an Access Database (doesn't need to be Access, I can phpAdmin or mysql, whatever will work) that has a list of names. I want the user to open a Flash form and have the names load up into seperate input boxes for each name. The user can then change the names, move them, whatever, and then save the record. I want it to just overwrite the record. I donlt want create a new record. I cannot, for the life of me, figure this out. I have tried to find some tutorials but nothing makes sense. Is ASP a good way to go? I have been struggling with this for a week now.

I have a website that is all flash. I have a main file that loads in the nav and then the nav loads in the designated .swf file for each section. So there are several sections(.swf's) with lots of text taken from a database and inserted into the swf file from
an XML file. If I click in between sections, and go back to the original section of text the formatting is lost. This is only in Internet Explorer 7- this does not happen in Firefox or on the Mac.

Is it possible to pull questions from a data file into flash without having to create new frames for every question. This would be a multiple choice test. We currently hand type the questions into multiple frames and grade at the end.

I have three dynamic text boxes. variables respectively
(caption0,caption1,caption2).
My xml file is structured as:

<captions>
<caption>Roll over this</caption>
<caption>This is the first Caption.</caption>
<caption>This is the second Caption.</caption>
</captions>
I am trying to create a rollover where when you rollover caption0; caption1 and caption2 are displayed in sequence. Everything works except though only the first caption is ever displayed. For the other two I get "level0.caption1" and "level0.caption2" instead of the text in the xml file above. How do I parse the data so that each of the variables are assigned the text in the xml file?

I currently have a Flash app that gets populated by parsing data from an external XML file. However, I need to get the XML data into a (JSP) session and can't neccesarily have an external XML file--any suggestions? Can I put the XML string into a hidden input field in a form on the HTML?
