Data Integration :: Load External XML Into DataGrid With AS3
Jun 18, 2007
I've really looked hard to find an example/tutorial for loading external XML data into a DataGrid component using AS3. The code I'm using at the moment has the XML data in the AS code.
Here is the code that is working for internal XML data:
import fl.controls.dataGridClasses.DataGridColumn;
import fl.data.DataProvider;
stop();
var emailXML:XML = <emails>
[Code] .....
I trying to load indivual strings of text from an external file. example: I have a movie that navigates from frame to frame. on each frame I'd like a line of text to load into the movie. When the user navigates to the next frame the text loaded vanishes and is replaced by another line of text. This can be done with separate txt files, right but I was wondering if and how it could be done using one external text file.
I can not read my XML into a DataGrid. I have looked at the TimeSheet tutorial and have been able to get it to work, but can not make the adjustments to this file. I was wondering if there was a problem with XML itself?
I have a dataGrid which i've populated from an XML file.I want to be able to click a row and to use information fromthat row. This seems fine at first, but then when I click theheaders to change the sort order, the data isn't in the same orderas the XML file anymore, so the itemIndex doesn't refer to the itemanymore - only the position in the datagrid.
I am trying to populate a datagrid based on a value selected from a combobox. The data comes from a xml file, which looks something like this,[code]The user can list data in the datagrid based on either "media" and "region." For example, the user should be able to choose "Europe" from the combobox and list "only" media having "Europe" in the region tags. In this case, if the user chooses "Europe" from the Combobox only one listing (rammstein) will be seen in the Datagrid.However, it doesn't work. I get a blank datagrid. Loading data into the datagrid is not the problem, because if I just use a straight For loop with no conditions I fill the datagrid no problem. The problem comes up when I try to control what data get listed in the datagrid based on selected value in the combobox.[code]
I have developped a actionScript interface which connects a mySQL database to get data trough an XMLConncetor and fill a datagrid on the stage. When I test the swf locally with the SWFplayer it works perfectly. To make long story short, the xmlConnector connects the database and fill the datagrid. You can modify the data by clicking on buttons because they are bounded to xmlconnector and this one update the database and the refresh function opf the datagrid works.
The problem comes when I upload the swf on a web server and I try to connect the database. The first connection is okay but when I click on buttons, the request is sended to the database but the datagrid is not updated, even if I set an intervall or I code a function wich refresh the data...However, in IE, if you erase the cache and reload the page, modifications are there...
I have a datagrid with multiple columns. I can click a column header to sort the rows, but I don't know how to sort on two or more rows. For example, last name, age, then racing time.
I'm exploring various ways to get data into a DataGrid component from a remote service. I've managed to use DataGlue to map my results to different fields the DataGrid, however what I'd like to do is use the component inspector to and bindings. The Problem i have is that I want to display only certain fields. so in the remoting connector i have this set up conn::results.items.[n].id => grid::dataProvider.[n].identifier Now I would assume that my grid would show the id in the results returned but it doesn't. I've seen a lot of posts on this so I know there are a lot of others puzzled by this.
I have an SQL database setup which contains Herbal Information such as CommonName, LatinName, MedicalUse etc, and need to display the information in a Flash DataGrid Component. I also have the corresponding PHP script to connect, retrieve, add and delete items from the database. Although I am familiar with Flash in a design sense I have limited experience using Action Scripts and am unable to complete the connection myself.
It seems there are lots of topics close to this, but none with answers. I have attempted to complete the Dinner Menu sample example in Flash 8. I finally got ti to work but the columns do not match the order of the items in the XML document. I cannot find an answer to this problem anywhere on the internet so far.
I have a DataGrid bound to an XMLConnector and XMLDataSet. The XML data loads fine into the components. However, I cannot get the value of the selected index using: my_datagrid.selectedIndex
The call works fine if you use addItem to populate the grid.
Is there an issue being that the datagrid.selectedIndex parameter is bound to the XML components?
I'm trying to read some data in from a sql source, some of which contains double quotes embedded in the text. I know I can strip the doublequotes, but don't want to go that route if I can avoid it. I've tried replacing to double quotes with hex codes before passing the text via parameter to my flash file, but the text string always cuts off at the hex code, the same as if the double quote were present in the string. For example:This is a "text" stringreplace double quotes with hex: This is a x22textx22 stringesults when read into flash: This is a <remainder is dropped>Yet if I type the same text string in a variable in flash, the string displays the double quotes properly:
I will be creating a program to use for data entry. I'll be studying zebras in kenya and I won't have the internet there as I'm recording the data. I'd like to be able to send the data I generate in flash to an external text file. I understand I need some sort of script to do that, but is this something I can run just on my machine? (I'll probably make the data into xml format).
Im new to placing external data into Flash. I just got CS3 and Im trying to use Flash to dynamically load XML data via a FlashVars call in the HTML.
The problem is I have followed the very straight forward AS2 Help files for using FlashVars and URL variables.I have placed the code directly from the Help file into the Html between <noscript> <noscript>and i keep getting undefined.I have tried saving the file as flash 8 and i am publish flash 8.
We have implemented a Flash photo slideshow on our site and it works just fine for most of our users. Whenever the xml.load(success) returns false I have the Flash email me a debug report. For the life of me I can not find a common thread between all of these people having problems with the Flash. I don't think it's a cross-domain issue because it works for most people, and I have the crossdomain.xml files where they should be.
I have an Access Database (doesn't need to be Access, I can phpAdmin or mysql, whatever will work) that has a list of names. I want the user to open a Flash form and have the names load up into seperate input boxes for each name. The user can then change the names, move them, whatever, and then save the record. I want it to just overwrite the record. I donlt want create a new record. I cannot, for the life of me, figure this out. I have tried to find some tutorials but nothing makes sense. Is ASP a good way to go? I have been struggling with this for a week now.
I currently have a Flash app that gets populated by parsing data from an external XML file. However, I need to get the XML data into a (JSP) session and can't neccesarily have an external XML file--any suggestions? Can I put the XML string into a hidden input field in a form on the HTML? Can Flash communicate with that HTML? Or are one of the below methods recommended:
I am trying to have a PHP page load some variables into aFlash banner ad that will be running on 8 different websites...I need to have one central location for the PHP page andallow 8 other domains access this data...I am finding that when everything is on one server... noissues... data reads just fine...But when the PHP page is on one server and the SWF file onanother... the data never gets through...I am assuming this is some issue with security within
Is there a way to load an XML file if it's on a differen server/domain than the html/swf file? I already set allowScriptAccess="all" but it didn't seem to help.
Throwing this out there. I would like to know how to haveflash grab an XML URL from the embed tag (i.e. embed src=""flashvars="profile=http://xmlfile.xml". Reason:I make thesemyspace templates for people to use, but they can only be edited bypeople who own flash. If the user could edit an XML file with allof their content, then they would be able to use the layoutsregardless of whether or not they have flash. Does anyone here know how to do this? I believe it issomething like this on an actions layer:
Have a flash, that loads XML from server. Flash uses it to built up a site menu. Both xml and flash reside on the same host. When I try to run server locally - everything works. But when I try it online, XML is loaded only in FireFox, but in IE it can't be loaded. Flash movie itself loaded normally (I can right-click on it and see standard menu). I put my host into Trusted sites in IE and set very low security/privacy. I don't have any firewalls or proxies. I also put my host and flash movie into Trusted source in Flash Settings Manager.
I like to call for different SWF files from a link in a MySQL database to use in a Detailpage with PHP. Photos and text are no problem. The AC code is probably complicating things.
I made a flash music player for my server the player works perfectly and loads the xml data when viewed on my computer and even when it has been uploaded to the server IF I view it by itself but once I try and view my HTML file, all of the information for the songs comes up as undefined, so none of the songs will play.
where you can load an image from a SQL database ? I would like to show this image in Flash, but i don't know how to load in from a SQL database using ASP.
I have a created a flash searchable database with xml,following this tutorial url...It seem to be work great but my the xml file seems to be too large so when certain words are search I get a script error and eventually freezing up, my question is Is there a way to tell flash to load the 10 or 20 records at a time? By loading sections of the xml one at a time will this stop the script error?
I have my XML data loading into my SWF OK. However, is there any way to call that tag name instead of the child node number?So instead of something like this[code]...
It will not load the image from the database using ASP. I set Images as a variable from ASP. It was displaying "images/img1.jpg" instead of image visually.
