View 3 RepliesI'm in the process of expanding an admin area for a website (coded with PHP and MySQL) and would like to get my client list into a flash combo box. the main columns I would need would be the account and the company name... In a regular example would be
<select name='client'>
<option value='2460'>Client 1</option>
<option value='2461'>Client 2</option>
</select>
If I could get this I should be away...
ive managed to get info from a mysql database into flash in a combo box. i have a text field and i want it to load in the corresponding data when a new title is selected in the combo box.
View 1 RepliesI'm populating a datagrid with some JSON data that came from a mysql query.I was wondering if it's possible to tell a piece of JSON data to go to a column other than the name it has?My JSON data comes in with abbreviated names...
[{"gID":"Rock","vID":"Darby's Pub","gRec":"Yes"}]
and I load it into my dataGrid's data provider...
myDG.dataProvider = new DataProvider(myJSON);
Currently, my columns have to be named...
gID, vID, and gRec
for the above data to be populated.Is it possible to have more meaningful column names, while keeping the abbrieviated form in the JSON data? eg...
GIG STYLE, VENUE, CAN BE RECORDED
or do I have no choice but to make the full names a part of the JSON like...
[{"GIG STYLE":"Rock","VENUE":"Darby's Pub","CAN BE RECORDED":"Yes"}]
I am trying to populate a datagrid based on a value selected from a combobox. The data comes from a xml file, which looks something like this,[code]The user can list data in the datagrid based on either "media" and "region." For example, the user should be able to choose "Europe" from the combobox and list "only" media having "Europe" in the region tags. In this case, if the user chooses "Europe" from the Combobox only one listing (rammstein) will be seen in the Datagrid.However, it doesn't work. I get a blank datagrid. Loading data into the datagrid is not the problem, because if I just use a straight For loop with no conditions I fill the datagrid no problem. The problem comes up when I try to control what data get listed in the datagrid based on selected value in the combobox.[code]
View 2 RepliesI am going nuts with this combo box! I have a flash form with 3 textboxes a combo box, and a submit button. When I hit submit, I post to an aspx page. My 3 textboxes are inserting into my db fine, but I have not been able to retrieve the value of the combo box.I have a change handler on the combo box called "comboDropDown". I have 3 labels, and no data. In the ActionScript for my submit button I have:
on (release) {
function comboDropDown()
{
var vchUser1 = comboBox.selectedItem;[code]............
I got a music portfolio web site running PHP, MySQL and Flash. There's a page showing all the artists my client worked for and when you click on a song title, this title is passed as a variable to a PHP page then to a Flash page. The Flash page contains an actionscript music player which then looks for the right audio file in the database and plays the song. Everything works great except for the dynamic text field which displays the song title. If the song title contains an apostrophe or a single quote, the Flash dynamic text field then shows the apostrophe.[code]
View 1 RepliesCan anyone help me with getting a message that is said in flash (like a game) go to a mysql database?
View 2 RepliesI would like flash to send and receive data from mysql.
To send data I would like to create 5 input fields, and then use a submit button.
Then to retrieve the data I would like to use the data grid or a dynamic text field.
I like to call for different SWF files from a link in a MySQL database to use in a Detailpage with PHP. Photos and text are no problem. The AC code is probably complicating things.
View 6 RepliesI need to create a stand alone desktop app that uses a database. It's been a long time since I did any VB work, and I need to learn Flash for another job anyway...is there any reason why I shouldn't use Flash for the desktop app?
View 1 RepliesI am a DBA and I provide data to the developers at my companyin XML format. The developers create Flash graphics and use the XMLto populate data variables. I want to start requiring thedevelopers to make calls directly to my MySQL databases so anytimei have to make a change to the underlying data, I don't get stuckgenerating an updated XML file for the developers.My developers tell me a Flash graphic cannot make a calldirectly to a mySQL database. They say Flash has to reference apage in which variables are defined, such as an XML, PHP, ASP pageetc. This page, they say, is generated from database info, butFlash does not directly make the call to the database ... thatanother programming technology (XML, PHP, etc.) does and has toparse the information, making it available to Flash.
View 3 RepliesI am using the function below to convert a Flash AS3 Date type to a MySQL- compatible 'datetime' string. It is working fine, BUT I am worried that AS3 may not extract the 'same date format' from different client computers thereby rendering my function useless.Is there a better way of passing date to MySQL? One that gaurantees consistancy.
public function getMySQLdate(flashDate:Date):String var year:String;var month:String;var day:String;var hours:String;
var minutes:String;var seconds:String;

First time on here.We teach English through games. All done on flash AS3 now. Want to put courses online so I have been told to use php to communicate to server and database. My question is:Do I use mysql to save stats or xml FIRST: I will get info from xml and send it to my activities in flash - I'm OK with thisSECOND: I want to send out stats from flash to mysql OR xml. The stats are:1. Student logs on of course using username and password (well that comes in not out)2. What lesson the student is on ie: 2, 3, etc...3. Highscores for game activities4. Scores student gets on each activity As far as I can see the only stats that grow are the scores on each activity and even those could be erased periodically.
View 1 RepliesFor various reasons, I would prefer to store binary data like images and videos as BLOBs within a MySQL database and have Flash retrieve that content directly from the database as opposed to getting it from a URL on a fileserver. So, I have written a PHP script that Flash calls which does a database query and returns the bitmap data from the BLOB. I have verified that the image data is being sent from the database through the PHP, but Flash either doesn't display the image or gives me an error saying that it is an unknown type.
[Code]....
Is there a way to get Loader() to accept bitmap image data that is retrieved from a BLOB in a database? Should I try to get PHP to mimic the response from an HTTP server or is there another way to load bitmap data stored as a BLOB into a display object?
I need to display a full recordset (say a table or a select from a table, returning many rows, not a single one) in a Flash doc, but I'm clueless. BTW, I read in other messages about amfphp which seems to be a good choice, but I can't use it on the Web Server (got no choice here).
View 2 Repliesi was just wondering how to do this. I want my table from the database in an array in flash.What is the concept of this, should i send a string with each variable/object and have flash sort it out into a array or can you just let php make the array and send that over?
View 5 RepliesI have a video player that is currently using XML for its video library which is all fine and dandy. Now I have some developers working on a CMS type page in PHP that is going to hopefully pass some sort of information to my player that will let it know where the video is stored on our server. Is there a way to do this without using FMS? If so does anyone have ideas where I can find the information for it.
View 2 RepliesI have have a problem loading and accessing data from a value object in my new project.. I load an xml file via a service, which contains title and locations of asset files, I need to be able to access the location of an asset file by specifying the title and retrieiving it from a value object.. I'm using the Robotlegs framework, here's an example of the xml:-
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
<files id ="xmlroot">
<file title="css_shell" location = "css/shell.css" />

I'd like to create one empty Flash movie that is essentially a placeholder for externally loaded content I can change through XML. This content would just be able to randomly load 1 of 3 photos, with a button linking to a website within each of the photos on page load. If the user refreshes the page, a new photo with it's link would appear, but I understand since it's random,having 3 images the same image is likely to reappear, but I can always add additional photos and links.
Does anyone know of a tutorial that might lead me on the correct path to create this? I've found some tuts, but they've been different than my need.
We want to be able to upload over 100+ files (if needed) to a server along with desc + keywords. I see that Flash 8 has the neccessary tools to handle file uploading, but my question is, can we have it act as a Stand alone FTP program so that we can utilize the fastest user upload, or will we be confined to the settings in the server INI settings.IE MAX_UPLOAD_TIME,MAX_FILESIZE, etc. If possible we want to avoid using the HTTP upload as it is noticeably slower. So if we can use flash to utilize user BW to upload, then that would be ideal.

View 1 RepliesIm trying to use dynamic SQL tables on my PHP server so I need to pass the table name to the PHP script. I don't understand why the Data Management system that sets up CRUD won't allow this extra parameter. It says it can only have one input: item. I can get all records, but when I try to create, update, or delete I get an error.
Or is there another way I can pass the tablename variable to the php file before I call any functions?
Im new to placing external data into Flash. I just got CS3 and Im trying to use Flash to dynamically load XML data via a FlashVars call in the HTML.
The problem is I have followed the very straight forward AS2 Help files for using FlashVars and URL variables.I have placed the code directly from the Help file into the Html between
<noscript> <noscript>and i keep getting undefined.I have tried saving the file as flash 8 and i am publish flash 8.
Is it possible to read/write data to and from Access with Flash in a offline format? I need to create a stand alone system that users can log into and pull information from - but it will not be networked or have any sort of internet connection.
View 2 RepliesI'm trying to read some data in from a sql source, some of which contains double quotes embedded in the text. I know I can strip the doublequotes, but don't want to go that route if I can avoid it. I've tried replacing to double quotes with hex codes before passing the text via parameter to my flash file, but the text string always cuts off at the hex code, the same as if the double quote were present in the string. For example:This is a "text" stringreplace double quotes with hex: This is a x22textx22 stringesults when read into flash: This is a <remainder is dropped>Yet if I type the same text string in a variable in flash, the string displays the double quotes properly:
