I've a digram with lots of button from top to bottom. At present all the buttons are manually placed on the stage and add corresponding links to each button. I've managed to add dynamic links on the fly but any other option to place buttons dynamically on the stage from library without overlapping one with another.
I have 3 buttons slightly overlapping each other, all on one layer. What i'd like to happen, is for whichever button is rolled over with the mouse to show up on top of the other buttons..
I have a movie clip with hit zones over buttons. It looks like a cam corder and when you roll over them a thumb moves to that button and when you click. The thumb presses on the button. That all works great. I want to put buttons in the main scene over top of these that will change things on the screen when you click it. And get urls of the videos that I have on my website. But when I put the hitzones over other hitzones the ones in back dont work. Is there a way to make them both work or am I going to have to make everything contained in the movie clip? So in short can I have two buttons on top of each other that do two different things?
This seems like such an easy thing to do but it's driving me crazy. Sorry if this is a simple question. In a site I am building it is necessary to have a large movieclip overlaid over an image gallery. This movieclip controls scrolling so has a rollover listener attached, but of course the gallery pictures also need to have button actions. I cannot get them both working at the same time. How can I make it so that rolling over a movieclip doesn't disable the rollover for any movieclips underneath it? Here is a very simple example of the problem. I've created a banner and made the whole area clickable with an invisible button. But there's one small element in that banner I'd like to give a roll over state for extra fun. This element doesn't need a link hooked to it just to change colour when moused over. When I put the invisible button on top, it blocks the element on top the invisible button is not working either. Since it's a banner I have the document set up in as2.
I'm using a map as the navigation "menu" between descriptions of items located on the map. Each item has a button, which is enlarged on hover. When the button is clicked, the description of the item shows up and a picture of it substitutes the map (and all buttons disappear). Here's the issue: some buttons, when enlarged, overlap with other buttons. I am currently using addChild() to ensure the button currently pointed at is on top of any others. The problem is that, when I click the buttons, any buttons I pointed at do not disappear, but stay on top of the picture. Is there a better way to make the buttons go to the top, one that doesn't keep them on when the frame changes? Or at least, is there a way to make them disappear when the frame changes?
I need to create a workaround for a button issue. I don't know how to have one button created by one class send a click event to another item created in a different class
Therefore, I'd like to place both of my buttons on top of one another, alpha one of them out and have both buttons receive the same click.
Has anyone seen any tutorials about or know how to randomly place multiple, different-sized movieclips on the stage without overlapping them? The final output would be something like this:
I am creating a memory sequence game and I was wondering: 1. Is there a way to random position movieclips on the stage without having them overlap each other? 2. Is there a way to have flash draw a vector line from one clip to another in sequence and then have the user retrace what flash did? I have 6 movieclips on the stage, each with their own instance (ex. obj1_mc, obj2_mc, etc.). Is there a way to tell flash to always draw a line between movieclips in sequence even though the movieclips are randomly placed on the stage?
I draw a shape with the AS3's drawing API, then I draw another shape that intersects the previous shape, both the shapes have fill in them, but the intersecting area does not have any fill. I am not able to manage the "direction" that the shape is drawn in. what I need is for flash to just fill everything up to the outer borders of all the shapes, how would i achieve this? I'm working right now on a map generator. I stumbled on a very annoying problem. I'm using the for loop to add the map elements on the stage. But when the "forest" area begins to be to thick all trees begin to overlap.
trying to print a movieclip with a white backgroundwhile keeping the stage background black.The movieclip,printResults_mc has a white rectangle in the bottom layer, 850pixels x 1100 pixels. The following function scales printResults_mcto the printers printable area but because isimpossible to predict the aspect ratio of the printable area someblack background always leaks out. I tried making the whitebackground 20 pixels larger than I need (870 x 1120) and thensetting a crop rectangle in addPage of (10,10,850,1100), no luck,the black stage background just fills in the area outside the crop.A simple solution would be to temporarily set the stage backgroundcolor property to white, print, then set it back to black, but I

I am wondering if it's posible to set the backgroundcolor of the stage through as3 code.i am also wondering if it's possible to set the stage height and stage width through the code. for the application i wish to develop, the values of the stage color and the stage dimensions are provided by an XML file.
The problem is that even though this external movie covers the whole stage, My mouse can still "see" buttons that are on the stage, and I can click them. I don't want to be able to click the buttons through my external movie.
I am wondering if there is an easy way to allow the user to change the background image on the stage by clicking a button. I have several different background images (they are just different colors, each on its own layer) and I want to have small buttons of each color that can be clicked to change the background to that color.
I can't get the code to "know" which of the dynamic thumbnails has been clicked (by "know", I mean return an index value, say 0 through 7 if there are 8 projects, that I can use to access that particular project in the array of 8 projects in the rest of the code)... So if the third movieclip thumbnail were clicked, I'd like "2" to come up somehow... I've tried this code, which is kind of lame, I know, based off of the idea of each of the thumbnail movieclips' names ending in their index number:

Lastly, there's a dynamic textfield I'm trying to create that never shows up for some reason. Again, you could see in the FLA (in the "createDrawer" function around line 424).
I have buttons that load SWF files. when i test the SWF they have a solid background. However, if i use a button to open the swf they have transparent/no background, yet you can still see the contents of the swf.
How do i get the SWF to have a solid background when opened by buttons?
I'm somewhat stuck in a project that I have to deliver next Friday. Thing is... I've got to code a webpage like The Killers Band webpage with a panoramic picture moving according to your mouse movements.
I've tried several things already, but I had no success yet. (Everything must be coded in AS2.0, and I'm using Flash CS3 to cover the project).
All I have is the panoramic picture, which I might be able to upload if you ask me to.

I've already converted the background picture into a movie clip symbol. Also, if I ever have to send the picture to anyone, I'll send it as a Private Message, since I can't post links yet.
I have a .swf playing some background tunes, I have the soundsOff button working, but can't find some basic action to get the sound started again?....what's the trick?
I am using buttons with a dynamic textfield and a function to set the label for various different buttons:

I have a dynamic textfield ... myText ... which I would like to use as a page title ... so once the button has been clicked, the dynamic textfield should update with the label of the button clicked.
I have 2 input textfields on the stage and 1 dynamic textfield.
-input1 is for quantity
-input2 is for page count
When a user enters a number into the page count it makes a calculation and places the outcome into the dynamic textfield. This textfield is for the individual price.All of this so far works. What I want to do now is create another dynamic textfield for the total. So the individual price is multiplied by the quantity and this result is put in the new dynamic text field. I have the code for that working but here is where it gets tricky (for me anyway).The total price is to start off invisible. When I roll over the individual price the total price is to appear (For a test lets just say when I roll over an area the total price appears).To stop cursor flickering this should be done inside a movieclip. So... I have create a movieclip and placed a dynamic textfield inside it. They all have instance names BUT how do I reference it in script?I need to tell the resulting calculation to be placed inside the textfield which is inside the movieclip. If it isn't inside a movie clip I can do it. But how to I reference it when inside one?
I have a nav menu i am building with flash MX 2004 and im using action script to make the background change when nav buttons are rolled over. I currently have a movie clip where the background changes with a motion tween and i used some action script so that depending on the button the specific frame will play and then stop in the background change mc.However after you have done things once they get screwed up and instead of the animation it just changes pictures instantly and the picture is usually incorrect.here is a sample of the actionscript i am using:
