Flash - Working With Custom Metadata In AS3 / Flex?
Apr 20, 2011How to create and to work with custom metadata in ActionScript3/Flex?

View 2 RepliesSo I'm writing a Component for our artists to use and I need to be able to point at an XML document. I could have them simply write out the path in a string, but I'd like to allow them to navigate to the source file with a file browser if possible. I've looked through much of the documentation for metadata tags and haven't found anything "reliable"... for instance... [URL]. Lists possible "types" for [Inspectable] metadata, but it doesn't list nearly all of them... I'm currently using a type="Video Content Path" to let them browse to a video file... but I would think that Adobe would also have a type that allowed to browse to any file type, not just a video.
View 1 RepliesI am just just curious as to whether the [Bindable] metadata tag in ActionScript 3 can only be used within the Flex framework, or can it be used in "regular" ActionScript projects where Flex isn't used?
View 1 RepliesI'm trying to send metaData from client to FMS server when recording Webcam video and have implemented sending of metaData as stated on Adobe's help page at: http:[url]....
However when I play the recorded video from FMS, my custom metaData properties trace "undefined".I can trace default metaData properties such as duration or videocodecid successfully,but not my custom properties such customProp,width or height. Here is part of my code that is related to the issue: private function
ncNetStatus(event:NetStatusEvent):void [code].....
All this code works properly, however when I include the part which controls the video resize metadata the scrubber stops working... (see the section between the ">>> <<<").
Code:
var nc:NetConnection = new NetConnection();
nc.connect(null);
var ns:NetStream = new NetStream(nc);
ns.setBufferTime(2);
ns.onStatus = function(info) {

I want to create flex application by which i can verify user age i have use following code can u tell me why i cant see mx component "dialogtitle","dialogcontent""dialogbutton"
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<mx:VBox creationComplete="{initComponent();}" height="219" width="560" xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" xmlns:components="components.*" xmlns:local="*">

I want to persist the AdvancedDataGrid column order for the user if they move them around and close the window or log out. I have code (see below) that works when I place the code in a grid parent container - eg, a title window. I'd like to generalise the functionality by placing the code in an AdvancedDatagrid subclass rather than each grid container so that all my grids have access to a single location when saving/loading their choices. My approach is to store the datafield names and grid name in an array and save/read to/from the shared object. and update the column order based on that order. The invaldation fails when I use the code in the Advanced Datagrid subclass but works fine in the grid parent.
private function loadSettings(name:String = "custom"):void
{
var gridName:String = this.stripUIDNumbers(this.uid);
var temp:Array = new Array;
[Code].....
In the main file, I would write[code]...
But if I want the component to have that behaviour innately, where do I write it in the mybutton mxml file to have it reference itself?[code]...
overriding clone() while creating custom events?I read in the Flex cookbook that we need just in case we want to redispatch this event. Does this exactly means that when we want event to be bubbled up the display hierarchy , at that time our custom cloned event should be dispatched and not the Event object.
second - whats the need of metadata tag -
[Event(name="modelEvent", type="com.abc.data.model.ModelEvent")]
public class LoginModel extends EventDispatcher
I understand we need to extend EventDispatcher in case we want to dispatch evnet from class.. but In what cases i would need to specify the MetaData TAg
Third is.. If i write -- "dynamic customEventClass extends Event".. Is there any use of Dynamic i can make?
This is NOT duplicate of my earlier post (its is slightly different)But this is similar issue with similar error but its not the same error The error I am getting now is below while dispatching the custom event from my custom component
TypeError: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: cannot convert events::MapEvent@a74ab51 to flash.events.MouseEvent.
dispatchEvent(new MapEvent(MapEvent.CLICKED_ON_MAP));
Note: The error in my earlier post is giving below error message
Type Coercion failed: cannot convert flash.events::Event@81ecb79 to com.events.ShopEvent
The difference here are two things, the earlier error is while converting flash event to custom event and now this one is while converting custom event to flash event and secondly, I have no clue why it is trying to convert to the mouseevent where I am just dispatching my custom event with proper listeners.
This is my custome event
package events
{
import flash.events.Event;
import ui.map.MapElement;
[code]...
I made a class that runs fine when used in a movie published from flash 8 on a PC WinXP, but when i try to use it in mx2004 Mac OSX, i get the error:
Code:
**Error** xxxxx:Archive 02 WIP:test:PicSwitch.as: Line 42: There is no property with the name 'onMotionFinished'.
tweenIn.onMotionFinished = function() {
**Error** xxxxx:Archive 02 WIP:test:PicSwitch.as: Line 48: There is no property with the name 'onMotionFinished'.
tweenOut.onMotionFinished = function() {
In my class on the first line i use:
import mx.transitions.Tween
... so that i can use the Tween class in my class.
I know that it is possible to add swf metadata to the compile command as a command option, but I can't find any documentation on how to access these metadata within the actionscript during runtime. We're trying to add a version number to the swf during compile time and then somewhere in our app we would retrieve it during runtime, here is the command example to add the description metadata.
mxmlc -description "version 1.2.3"
I know the swf metadata is used by search engines and other utilities to gather information about the SWF file, but surely you should be able to retrieve them in the actionscript during runtime?
I'm trying to embed a font in Flex and the code I'm using looks the same as the example, but throws an error. This is the code I've written:
[Embed(source="data/posca_mad_thrasherz/posca_mad_thrasherz.ttf",
fontName = "fontGraffiti",
fontWeight = "bold",
mimeType="application/x-font")];
private var funFont:Class;
But I get the error, "Metadata requires an associated definition." I can't seem to get rid of it.
I have a situation where a simple query against a table is returning incorrect values in Flex, but not in other GUI front-ends to SQLite.
select title from ttl where ttl.ttl = 140 // ttl is also the column name of the PK column
is returning the title that belongs to the row whose PK = 1400.
ttl.ttl is defined as int datatype.
Again, the problem manifests itself only in Flex, not in other GUI front-ends to SQLite, which are returning the correct title value.
I saw that you can embed meta-data into images very much like you can in mp3s, here.
Can someone point me to a tutorial of how to embed and read this sort of information w/ photoshop and flex together? I really wouldn't know where to start... Tried googling but I'm not sure I have the right keywords down.
I have something like
public class Controller {
[Observer("fetchEmployeesEvent")]
public function fetchEmployees() : void {
[code].....
What language construction can be used to make a compile time checking of Array elements type when the Array is a function parameter?[code]Here we've marked the returned Array as one containing elements of type string.Is there a way to mark the parameter variable as an Array containing elements of certain type?I'm specially interested in the Array collection. I'm aware of the vector collection but I have reasons not to use it in my case.
View 3 RepliesI have an actionscript, which makes a dynamic image wall. It gets parameters from FlashVar and changes the width and height dynamically.
When I use
[SWF(width="584",height="290")]
It's fully centered, but when I remove it, it's appear ~+50px from left. How can I set dynamically the SWF metadata or what I need to set for the correct view?
Top of the picture with SWF tag and the bottom is without SWF tag.

View 4 RepliesEDIT: If I have a class called Items and it has a movieclip instance which is loaded from a url. The startDrag on item fails. If Items contains a movieclip which we initiate from a SWC (not load it) on Drag works fine. Now how to solve the issue where I have a class which has a movieClip loaded from outside.I have the following code:
package {
import flash.display.Sprite;
import flash.events.MouseEvent;
[code].....
I'm using Flash MX 2004.
[Code]...
Can you please tell me why this isn't working? It takes me 10 minutes to test the movie every time and it's taking me forever to fix things. Do I have to do something else with the variable names I'm using or something?
with the following:I have created the following custom class:
Code:
package com.custom
{
[code].....
I am working over a program that needs to extract meta data from music files in different formats. It was easy for MP3 format, but there is nothing for other formats.I made a research, there is a lot of software for extracting meta data - but no source code or algorithm. There are open source projects, they use their own libraries, but I was not able to find something for Flex (Action Script)

If you run these, you'll notice that the MXML-component can't hear the event. The question is simple, is there some way of getting the Event-metadata tag to work WITHOUT extending EventDispatcher? I would like to keep this class independent and use object composition as much as possible. And no, I don't want to use ActionScript addEventListener in the MXML-file. It doesn't tell the developer anything like good old Event metadata tag, and besides, that is not the point of this example. :)
I'm studying a demo code and it seems to me that an instance of a class is never instantiated, in particular I have this line:
[Code]....
I created a 9-scalled background in Flash CS5 which is working fine in Flash CS5.But when i imported it as embeded graphic in Flex, and change dimensions in runtime, 9-scalling doesnt work.Here is my code.
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<s:Application xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009"
xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark"[code]....
The spark panel component for example can be written like this
<Panel title="Skinny">
<child components ... />
<controlBarGroup>
<child control bar components ... />
</controlBarGroup>
[Code]...
The motivation here is that I can now create a couple different skin files to change the look and layout of those subgroups. Reading source of the spark panel, there are some calls within the mx_internal namespace such as getMXMLContent() which is a method of the spark group component, but which I have no access to.
Does the description above make sense? How can I create custom 'contentGroups' in my custom Flex4 component that can use nested mxml child components? Should I approach this a different way?
What software is available for extracting metadata from an FLV? I'm testing an flv streaming module for apache (mod_flvx) and need to extract keyframe info from an flv for debugging purposes. I was only able to find FLV MetaData Viewer, but its dated, from 2006, and doesn't install properly on Win7. [URL] Edit: I'm open to any method of extraction, either app or library.
View 1 RepliesI have the following situation:I have an event handler, that displays small messages in my application's statusbar.These messages get passes through by dispatching events from custom components.A simple message could be like "HTTP Error" or so.Now, the main event listener, in the main application file, listens to the event dispatched by any custom component,but seems to refuse listening to events dispatched by custom AS classes.Here is my code for the custom event:
package main.events
{
import flash.events.Event;[code]..
So to sum it all up:
- The event listener listens to the custom event dispatched by any custom component.
- The event listener does not listen to the custom event duspatched by an AS class.
Those who wonder, the event really gets dispatched, that's why I added a trace call.
I wondered what would be the equivalent of metadata tag used in flex or flash builder, but for flash or fla .. For example to use with [Injectors]Greetings!
