I'm looking to create a flashBuilder document which uses seperate MXML files as "views" which are controlled by states - I believe it's a design pattern of sorts but I'm relatively new to FlashBuilder. I tried using Actionscript to create a loader, but I can't seem to add an event listener to the loader. I've tried to create a local service but I couldn't get that to work either.
I'm making an XML driven AIR app. I plan on having multiple XML files being used - some for content and some for storing settings, state etc.
Anything like that out there now? I know there was a rather buggy formatter for FB 3, but how about a mature code formatter for FB 4?
View 1 RepliesI imported an .fxp project into a Flash Builder and then observed there are 5 .mxml files in the src/(default package) directory. Silly question -- how to run each of these five files?
Since I've named the project differently than any of the .mxml files, whenever I try to run something it uses the default (empty) .mxml file named after the project. Deleting that empty mxml file didn't help anything. I also tried to clean the project, but nothing changes (although I see the directories refresh with the same contents). There are no html files in the bin-debug directory.
There must be some simple way to run those .mxml files that I'm missing.
So yahoo astra has grate compohent for saving inputed data. They show examples of how to use it. But I had not found one capable to solve my current problem. For example user inputed his name. It is saved, but when he comes again he always needs to input at least first latter of his name. so I wonder - how to make Yahoo astra autocompletemanager component to pop up last inputed into it value on application creation complete?

I am using progressive streaming with VideoDisplay, the HTTP URL provided gets buffered completely even if I have configured it to start playing the video when the buffering reaches 20%, the trace message shows that the playing started(using mozilla /Flashbug+Firebug), but it doesnot show the video till the buffercounter reaches 100% How can I get the video stream to play at the 20% of stream.Code Segment where the check takes place

In the Component script I need to add numbers from data as they are added to a list and then display the total in a label placed in the View.If I declare the variable in the first script, the Component script can't see it and if I declare it in the Component Script the label can't see it.How will I declare it so that everyone in the view can see it?Here is the code, the problem is where should I place the var MyTotal so it can be used anywhere in the view:

A flash application in flash builder is currently throwing this error:
ReferenceError: Error #1065: Variable is not defined.
Not telling me which variable it is that's not defined, but note there are two spaces between 'variable' and 'is'. and it gives me some more feedback as to what lines of code are having trouble, but those lines are all within the actual flash/mxml packages and not any of the files in my own project.
I suspect it's related to my php data/services, but I don't see what variable would not be defined. I'm not very familiar with debugging, so I'm not sure how to determine with it where the problem is cropping up.

As the View is presented as a static and not a variable. When you try to submit it as a variable in any format (String, Object) an error occurs.

In my flex 3.5 project, I have a class (MyItem) extending Canvas. In this I have declared a private variable named itemInfo which is type of ItemInfo (which is another subclass of Canvas).
I wrote code to hide/show the iteminfo when the mouse is over/out of MyItem. I am not getting any error but it is not showing the itemInfo as expected, when debugged the code, surprisingly the variables tab in debug window does not have the variable itemInfo at all.
I have declared a dummy:int variable and it is also not visible.
Does MXML get compiled down to as3 and then converted to flash bytecode? Also, is there a significant performance penalty to compiling mxml vs compiling as3?

I'd like some help on using a variable in a path to a MovieClip. I have a menu with 4 tabs. When I click on one I want it to open and the previous one to close.
I'm storing the previous tab as a variable (_previousTab) but am having trouble adding the variable to the path to the MovieClip of the previous tab. The error Flash gives me is:

If I replace the variable _previousTab with the name of the MovieClip it works fine. I'm thinking it's something to do with the variable being a String perhaps?? Also, the trace statements return the desired MovieClip names.
I have a function that inserts data into a SQLite database. I can manually add data using
sqlStatement.text = "INSERT INTO users (First_Name, Last_Name) VALUES ('John', 'Doe')";
This works perfectly. Now I am trying to insert the data from a variable instead. I can trace my variable from this function- trace(Main._firstName); //returns John, but when I insert it using this:
sqlStatement.text = "INSERT INTO users (First_Name, Last_Name) VALUES (" + Main._firstName + ", 'Doe')";
it inserts it as "null Doe".

View 1 RepliesIm using Oracle, BlazeDS, Java & Flex. I have an ArrayCollection containing data from a small database table. This table won't be the subject of much change. I want to use this ArrayCollection accross different mxml files to fill e.g. ComboBoxes etc. The reason for asking, is that doing a database call for each time a fill a ComboBox etc is slow and seems unnecessary. I tried doing this once in the "main" .mxml file, but then the variable wasn't accessible where i needed it. What is the best approach for accomplishing this task? What is the best way of making a variable accesible across .mxml files?

Bottom line is I don't always need to peer into SWC's, and I don't like having a 'default package' automatically created for me. Not sure why the interface wasn't made simpler, allowing access to more power and complexity only if necessary. I want to focus on the code, not on how to navigate and use the bells and whistles in the coding environment.
