I am trying to get the value of a global variable from JS. The variable is defined in the HEAD section of my HTML document.

As I debug my application this call keeps returning "undefined" but if I make the same call in firebug's console it returns a string as expected.
So, in my main mxml, i have a variable defined as such:

Unfortunately, the getStudentName function simply returns undefined every time.It wasn't working b/c you can't have numbers as keys in a dictionary. Simply casting them to a string during the declaration and look up seems to work just fine.
i have some actionscript that makes a

call.is it possible to reference the html object that made the call to someFunction directly using the ExternalInterface.call call?
Assume that the object that makes the call also has some Callbacks (via ExternalInterface.addCallback) that are accessible via javascript.

I'm triyng to get the browsers back-button to work with my flash site. The general principle is this:There is an index.html page containing an (not yet) hidden Iframe and the flash movie.The Iframe contains page A, which starts with JavaScript calling a BACK-function on the index-page.The BACK-function triggers an AS-function in the flash-movie that activates its own back-button, and then changes the URL of the Iframe to Page B. This causes a new History to be added to the browser.The flash movie now contains 5 frames (labeled in the middle of the stage) and two navigation buttons: back (Terug) and forward (Verder). Those buttons do exactly what you'd expect them to do (prevFrame and nextFrame).On a PC (IE) this seems to work pretty well. But on a mac nothing seems to work propperly.Here's the code I have on the first frame.

I have an HTTPService that executes the dataLoaded(e:ResultEvent):void function whenever it gets a result from a send() call. OK so If I call HTTPService.send() and then call HTTPService.send() again before the previous one receives a result, I end up repeatedly running dataLoaded() which is undesirable What I want is if HTTPService.send() gets called before a previous call to it returns a result. I want to cancel the first call, and only process the result from the last call to HTTPService.send()

I'm trying to use ExternalInterface.Call to call a JavaScript function to launch a lightbox window. So far I have this:
AS3:
flash.external.ExternalInterface.call("launchLB", "" + aUrl + "");
JavaScript:
function launchLB(url) {
alert(url);

I get the alert but I can't get the lightbox window to display. When my as code makes the ExternalInterface call I get what looks like a page refresh and a blank browser window.
I need to get a javascript var in my Flash application. I like to be able to just set a variable in the javascript (client constraints) rather than define a function.
Can this be done? I am trying to use the ExternalInterface.call()
AS:
ExternalInterface.call("function(){return window.someVar}", null);
JS:
var someVar = "Test";
This does not work and I suspect it is because the ExternalInterface.call() does not like the anonymous function.
I have a function defined in JavaScript like so:

I call that function from my Flash file like so:

This works in both Safari and Chrome, but for some reason Firefox won't ever call the function. Still, I can't figure this out. How can I fix it?

My AS3 class has some quirks. It's sort of a guestbook, so someone can add a 'question'under a certain category. When I publish the results in a dynamic textfield or when I trace the results I get the existing XML values and some undefined ones.This is my AS3 script:

I'm building a play/pause button for my movie, and here's how I have it setup: The main button object is playPause_btnThe first layer of the button has a movie clip with the pause graphic, named pause_mcThe second layer of the button has a movie clip with the play graphic, called play_mcOn the button's click event, I want to set one of the graphics to 0 alpha and the other to 100 depending on the state, so only one graphic will show through The problem is, for some reason ActionScript returns UNDEFINED when I try to reference playPause_btn.play_mc -- and when I do a dump of the movie's objects, I see entries for _level0.playPause_btn.instance12 and _level0.playPause_btn.instance13 instead of the play_mc and pause_mc objects. Why aren't the objects' instance names accessible??

Well i have some labels at my timeline and i pass them as an array. The problem is at the onRelease event. It returns undefined. I cant figure out how to solve it.

I am having an issues with ExternalInterface.call to return a value in IE. It is working fine in Firefox. Eventhough I changed the "allowscript access" to "always", still it is not working. Is there any thing that I need to change in Flex or the HTML to make this work? or this is a security setting in IE?

I have an AJAX web service call that returns a chunk of HTML that I then apply to a DIV element on my page.This works fine for any html element except a flash video which comes up with 'Movie not loaded'.I've double-checked the html that is being returned and it's all fine, and it works if I don't use AJAX, but when I use AJAX and then add it using JS it doesn't seem to attempt to load the playlist.
