I'm working on a project and I'm encountering an issue with Flash's sporadic support of HTML 1.01 for textboxes that use .htmlText.The "Title" attribute is not supported for showing tooltips when you hover over the link.For instance, in an HTML document, a href='index.html' title='Click Here' will show 'Click Here' in a hovering tooltip box. It doesn't display in Flash.Anyone know of a good work around? I found this page: have yet to get it working with my text. For instance, I have one textbox, and the URL links are set for various words. This means I don't have the coordinates to set my X and Y for the fake hover effect.

View 8 RepliesI am trying to get the value of a global variable from JS. The variable is defined in the HEAD section of my HTML document.

As I debug my application this call keeps returning "undefined" but if I make the same call in firebug's console it returns a string as expected.
On the timeline, I set up an array with 'section' names. When the mouse is clicked, a listener traces the section name to output.

I'm building a play/pause button for my movie, and here's how I have it setup: The main button object is playPause_btnThe first layer of the button has a movie clip with the pause graphic, named pause_mcThe second layer of the button has a movie clip with the play graphic, called play_mcOn the button's click event, I want to set one of the graphics to 0 alpha and the other to 100 depending on the state, so only one graphic will show through The problem is, for some reason ActionScript returns UNDEFINED when I try to reference playPause_btn.play_mc -- and when I do a dump of the movie's objects, I see entries for _level0.playPause_btn.instance12 and _level0.playPause_btn.instance13 instead of the play_mc and pause_mc objects. Why aren't the objects' instance names accessible??

Unfortunately, the getStudentName function simply returns undefined every time.It wasn't working b/c you can't have numbers as keys in a dictionary. Simply casting them to a string during the declaration and look up seems to work just fine.

Well i have some labels at my timeline and i pass them as an array. The problem is at the onRelease event. It returns undefined. I cant figure out how to solve it.
I found out that if XML file's attribute contains German special chars (chars with umlaut, like:..) then I get "undefined" answer when I try to read an attributes value. I tryed to change XML file encoding to: "UTF-8" and "iso-8859-1" but still no luck. "system.useCodepage = true;

View 2 RepliesI have a load file and a write to file method. We all know what they do. How ever load always returns true and write always returns false....Right there you know somethings wrong. Because The forums have an issue with me posting code...I posted it here: [URL] Based on this code what is the issue here? why is write always returning false and why is load always returning true? (even for files that do not exist). My understanding is that if flash cannot find the file it should write to it will create it and if it cant load said file, then that method should return false.

View 2 RepliesI'm trying to edit a Flash file, that get it's data from and XML file.Now when you click on one of the menu items, the page + page title should change, but somehow the page title remains the same. (at least for the first 3 menu items) But when you go to the last menu item and then back to one of the first 3 menu items, the correct page title is shown.I'm no flash / AS expert, so I can't really find out what the problem is, but it seems like it has something to do with this function

I'm having with a menu navigation system. I'm using Flash MX. I have created a menu system for the site I'm building ([URL]) where one of the buttons "Choose photographer" drops down a list of names. All the other buttons just jump to another page. The drop down is currently using tweens also the logo moves to the left as the dropdown appears and returns when the dropdown returns. All working fine apart from its a bit jerky.
It's I just wanted to get away from tweening and use action scripts instead, as I'm a newbie to all things Flash I trawled the net for tutorials and examples so that I could cobble together the exact same effect. I have managed to get the drop down work and return using the action script and it does seem smoother and works slightly better. But can I get the logo to move to the left and back in time with the drop down...no.
I am having trouble parsing some xml that has a few attribute names with : characters in them. The compiler is not throwing any errors and when I trace my complete xml object out it is all there, however when I try to trace out any element or node it keeps comming up undefined. I removed the attribute names with : characters in them and everything works fine. I cant seem to target the attributes either to delete them.

EX:

Except, that I would like to add a Custom tag, like "randNum" so that the tag user could input some number, or rather, a flash movie could generate a tag with a number already put in...Basically, heres a really basic version of the idea.There is a Flash Movie.In the movie, you can input text into a textfield.Upon finishing your message, you click a button "save".
The flash movie then:
1. Comes up with a random number unique to the message.
2. Assigns that number to a variable... "randNum".
3. Saves message as a xml file to the server as "filename" + randNum.
4. Outputs into a textfield a generated HTML tag that a user can post on myspace and such so that it will load in the flash movie.
Except... in the tag, there will be a custom attribute. If the random number variable "randNum" was 00112233, the custom attribute will be 00112233.
EX:
<embed src = "somefile.swf" width = "550" height = "400" randNum = "00112233">
So when the movie opens, it retrieves that randNum from the tag and can use it inside flash. How can this be done? Sorry this post was so long, but I wanted everyone to understand the concept.

View 6 RepliesWhat I'd like it to do is find out what key was last pressed and then based on which key it was, go to a specific frame of guy_mc. So basically if the left key was the last key press I want it to go to frame "Left", if right key was the last, go to frame "Right," etc. I'm completely lost on this one and every tutorial I come across is based in AS2 which has much simpler methods than AS3.

I have an array variable called ball[#], which value starts at 0 and is incremented up to 8. I also have a corresponding array variable called _ballPlaced which returns true or false if a ball is placed in a target zone. What I would like to do is retrieve the array value variable from the ball[#] at any time. For instance, the ball[#] variable can be clicked and dragged, so when it's selected it becomes the event.target. E.g. How can I put the array value of the ball[0] in the ball _ballPlaced array.

So basically, I need to find a way to retrieve the image url that is stored in a database, and I need to do it through asp.net if possible (I want to avoid XML if I can). I'm an actionscript 3 newbie so I don't know what calls I might use to connect to the .net page, but I am able to retrieve the data through SQL to the .net page.
