Flex :: Initializing Details List And Dynamically Changing It

I have three lists and a button. Depending up on the selected items in first two list and after clicking the button I have to display the items in details list.
-In first list I am displaying names of employees
-In second list displaying managers names
-Then if I select one employee name and one managers name then after clicking button corresponding employee and managers details should be displayed in the third list.
The problem is with initializing the details list and dynamically changing it.

I was trying to get the COPY cursor using DragMananger and event.preventDefault()- but got a very weird cursor behavior (the items' drop indicator was wrongly presented - etc.) Therefor i am trying to stick to default - this works fine - but my cursor now on copy is a simple arrow, and i would like to get the arrow with the grin plus on it

When using a ColumnChart created in Flex 3, how can I to change the fill color of columns that meet a certain criteria?

I need a List that resizes to exactly fit its content, unless that height exceeds its (dynamically sized) parent container. My requirements are as follows:
The component extends List, or at least acts similarly. variableRowHeight and wordWrap both equal to true. The height of the list cannot be less than minHeight (roughly 32px for scrollbar arrows). The height of the list cannot be greater than the height of the parent container .
Note that the parent container can be resized dynamically.
The height of the list should be updated as the size of both the contents and parent container changes.
Live updating would be preferable but not necessary.
There should be no scrollbars if the content height is less than the parent container height (sounds obvious, but I've had trouble with this too).
The trouble is that with variableRowHeight and wordWrap, it's very hard to know the size of the content at any given time. If the parent container's width is reduced, a line wrap may occur in the list which will change the height of the content. I know I can measure the height of the list content using measureHeightOfItems() + viewMetrics.top + viewMetrics.bottom, but when should I calculate that? What events should I listen for? And the thing I've had the most trouble with - when should I calculate it to set the size initially (i.e. just as the content has finished populating)?

I am using FlashBuilder 4 and doing a simple application in flex. I am displaying a graph with 10 random values and based on the values I am trying to change the itemrenderer dynamically like CandlestickItemRenderer and BoxItemRenderer. Now my requirement was, if the values are > 10. I want to show my chart with CandlestickItemRenderer else i want to show the remaining spots as BoxItemRenderer. I am failing to do this. Either I am getting all the shapes as BoxItemRenderer or CandlestickItemRenderer. I am sending the code as a text file along with this.

I have been working with Flex and ActionScript for a few years now, but am just now getting into switching locales dynamically in one of my applications. I have set up locale bundles and have everything working well except for one thing I can't seem to get to change...the internal labels and date formatting on a DateField component.The DateField component is defined statically in MXML, but I am trying to change the dayNames, monthNames, and dateFormat attributes dynamically when a user changes locale, and it doesn't seem to work. have bound variables set up in the MXML that I am trying to change for all 3 of those attribute values, but they don't seem to change when I change the variable values.
I've tried making invalidateDisplayList() and invalidateProperties() calls after changing the values, but that doesn't seem to matter. I even added a call to "initialize()" after the 2 invalidate calls thinking maybe that needed to be called, but nothing seems to make a difference in getting the labels updated within the componentwhat I could be doing wrong? I've verified that the newDaysArray and newMonths array are getting set up properly from the bundle that they are being read from in the actionscript below.I should add that I've also tried editing the appropriate array variables in theSharedResources.properties file within the appropriate locales' framework_rb.swc library in my Flex sdk, and that hasn't seemed to do anything either.Here's code snippets:

However, When I run the function to delete one of the user-selected items from the database, the items is still displayed until I refresh the View (right now by clicking 'home' and the reentering the View). I realized that if I do addChild, I can't really see the dynamically added component, since flex did not reserve space for my List to display. So I do parentDocument.addChild, and then it appears no problem. My question is since it's being added in the parentDocument, so it is suppose to be a component belong to parentDocument, so is that component still be able to call this handleMouseDown? From my experience, it's still able to, but which doesn't make sense to me. Can someone explain a little about why it can still work, or any better approach other than parentDocument.addChild

I am attempting to dynamically change the color of a subset/portion of text in a Spark TextArea control. Using the MX-based TextArea, I could leverage the mx.controls.textClasses.TextRange type and change the color directly as follows:
TextRange tr = new TextRange(theTextAreaControl, false, beginIndex, endIndex);
tr.color = somePredefindColor;
Input Parameters to TextRange constructor:
1st argument: The TextArea control that will provide access to the underlying textField property
2nd argument: Indicates the TextRange will not modify the content of the TextArea
3rd argument: The beginning index position in the TextArea text string
4th argument: The ending index position in the TextArea text string
How would I go about doing this for a Spark-based TextArea control? I am looking to dynamically change the font color for a range of text, not just the entire TextArea AND I cannot statically specify the font color. The problem I run into when trying to re-use the TextRange type is that the 1st argument is expected to provide the textField property, which is currently not on the Spark-based TextArea control. I thought about extending the Spark-based TextArea control to provide this accessor property but that seems like overkill and is probably not the best approach.

I am creating a flash object that does some heavy image lifting. What I am looking to do is load many flash objects onto the same page to take an image, modify it, and display it within the flash object.The problem I am running into is that when I try to add 100 flex objects to the page, the browser freezes as it tries to re-load/initialize each instance.Once they are all loaded, the processing of the images goes by quick.Does anyone know how to duplicate the flash piece without having to reload everything?

I used HTTPService POST method to call a php file that returns me an xml type of result like

This result is obtained after the php files queries a database. The database contain other information too like (height, gender, education and address)Now i have a DataGrid (having two columns: NAME and AGE) and a Form below the DataGrid. I have displayed the above mentioned xml data in the DataGrid using the dataprovider="{userRequest.lastResult.User}" attribute.
I now want to use the itemclick=itemClickEvent(event) so that when a user click on a row of the DataGrid other information related to the clicked row like (height, gender, education etc) may appear in the form which is placed below the DataGrid in the GUI. For now my itemClickEvent, look like:

That's really all I want to do. Why is something like this so complicated? When you go into Component edit mode, you can easily change the highlight colors. Then why make it impossible to change the actual ground color? Why should I have to scour the internet to find complex code just to change the color? Sorry, it's just frustrating.Anyway, if setStyle("backgroundColor", 0xCCCCCC); ... was all I needed to do that would be fine, but that doesn't work.Even if it's not possible, I would accept text rollOverColor, or hover... nothing.I think there should be a drop down color box in the component editing window at the very lest.

The 'recommendations' dataProvider is an ArrayCollection of String, which are generally sentences about as long as this one. By setting the variableRowHeight and wordWrap properties as shown, if a sentence is too long to fit on a single line, everything works fine- the row expands and the messages show on two lines, or occasionally three.
The space allocated for this panel within the entire canvas means if the total text size of 'recommendations' exceeds six lines, I need for the entire list scroll. This is also working just fine. The trouble is when using the mouse wheel to do the scrolling- Flex scrolls both the entire list and the single item where the mouse is hovering. Often this results in only the second half of a sentence being visible. Non-programmer friends I have asked to look at this noticed this, and tell me it as a problem. If a user does not notice the dual scrolling, and sees only a fragment of a sentence, it will be perceived as an error in the application.
