IDE :: HTML Based 'home' Button For Flash?
May 13, 2009I've built a Flash site, embedded it within an HTML page and I'd like to add a 'HOME' button to the HTML page linking to a particular frame within the Flash. Is this possible?

ActionScript 2.0 :: Flash + HTML + Variables - Go To The Home.html Page An Animation Will Play From Start And Then Stop At The End Of It
Feb 25, 2010when you go to the home.html page an animation will play from start and then stop at the end of it. However, for all other pages i.e contact.html aboutus.html we need the animation to skip to the end straight away and not to play the whole animation through. I was thinking this would be controlled by a variable or some kind of external text file ect. Basically in the first frame the actionscript needs to basically say
"if this html page is aboutus.html then go to the last frame and stop" and with the index page it would say "if this html page is index.html then keep playing"

Professional :: Where Is Slideshow Coming From On The Home.html Page
Sep 10, 2010I am an html/css programmer and don't know much about Flash. I've just been asked to update this site which has many Flash elements. I just dissected the site but can't figure out where the slideshow is coming from on the home.html page. I opened the index.swf object and there are no images just a background. I believe the original designer used Flashbox for the slideshow and Flash as the backdrop? I think I have the other galleries (click View Rings portfolio or another portfilio) figured out.
It looks like it's pulling in a Flash file and the Flash file is pulling in images for the slideshow (at the bottom) from the images.xml file. I opened the Flash file (image gallery.swf) and the full pop up -- background and large photo and slideshow -- are included in the .swf file unlike the index.swf file. Am I correct? Not sure if a Flash file would pull in images from an images.xml file. How do I edit the Flash file if it's not pulling the images from the images.xml file? When I open the file it just shows me the .swf file in design view.Is this over my head and should I hire someone with Flash and Flashbox experience?

Flash :: IDE - Sites Vs HTML-based
Jan 9, 20111) They're hard to edit. I never learned AS, and I'm kind of hesitant to learn it. Adobe Flash (using CS5), while kind of cool, is really complicated.
2) They don't show up on Macs.
3) They don't show up right when Google crawls it. It just looks like a picture or something embedded. There's no text, so Google has no clue what you're talking about.
4) You can't get FLA files from the "View Page Source" or even the FTP, you have to ask your client to give you those files. Chances are, especially with my luck, he doesn't have them.
So. Why would someone use Flash to build a website? Especially when HTML 5, CSS3, JQuery and the like can do a similar job? I know I'm pretty new at the more complex languages, but if someone could enlighten me as to why Flash is just as useful, if not moreso, than an HTML based site?

Feb 22, 2010Is it neccesary to know HTML todesign complete flash based websites ?Ofcourse i know simple things like the index.html and adjusting borders etc within the html code. But i dont know exclusively how to make HTML standalone pages. Im basically a video edit guy and dont have much time to spend on learning HTML webdesigning.I propose to further study and polish my skills only in flash and stick to that area of specialization, ie.designing websites purely based on Flash. Is this OK. Are there designers like this who only specialize in flash websites without venturing into HTML ?

Feb 11, 2010I'm trying to send a variable from an HTML into Flash in order to modify it based on the value. I generally know how FlashVars works in AS3, so I did some quick reading for AS2 and made a test swf.

In my swf, the first frame only has this code:

According to what I've read and what my code is, this should work. It should read the value of video as the value of _root.tester (check the HTML code), yet it's always listed as undefined.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Home Button(jump To Frame) Not Functioning?
Sep 9, 2010First off, I am new Second off, I hate action script it's a pain in the ass. Here's what im dealing with: Im making an info point computer program in flash cs3. After making several pages I am forced to make a navigation button to jump to the first frame(home).
At the home page you will be sent to several different pages (these links work just perfect. To create a home button i've made an button with the same code

Unfortunate this does not work, while the links at the home page do work.
I've tried several things to fix it, but it won't do:
- Send to tagged frame "home" instead of frame "1".
- Change the instance name
- Putt the actionscript in the exact same frame.
Weirdly enough the home button does work on the keyframe where it is placed, even though I pushed the frame over all the other pages it wont jump to home.

Feb 2, 2012I am working on an iMAC running 10.6, and Flash CS5. I created a flash file with a list button ( with 10 inner sellections) on the main page. Each sellection within the list button loads a separate movie file from the library. Everything works great unitl Iinsert the Home button. If I install the home buton the main page, the list button does not work. If I install the home button in a movie, I don't know how to write the action script to go back to the main page, and I woul have to install a home button into each movie.

Nov 4, 2011I just discovered impure.com and was very impressed by what can be achieved in terms of visualizing data using their workspace. Although the platform is free to use, but not open source yet. This causes a few problems because the API section works with .com sites for eg. for ebay, so I cannot visualize ebay listings for regional sites such as ebay.in because the link to ebay.com is hardcoded.I searched around, but didn't find other projects that offer a similar way to work with site APIs and other data sources with the kind of user interface and detail that impure.com does in a realtime way within a browser window.This brings me to the questions:
-What technologies would be involved in creating a similar kind of project
-What are the open source tools that can help develop a fullscreen UI to render the workspace. Are there any alternatives to flash for this, and how do they compare
The goal would be to use standard python data structures, python scripts to do some processing on these data structures, scripts to gather data from csv, json and API sources such as google yahoo, wikipedia and flickr, and scripts to render graphs, tag clouds, network visualizations etc. Then bring them all together into a visual interface that supports drag drop and simple type checking.How would the python backend integrate with the UI.

Apr 6, 2005I would like to load a different image inside a flash movie depending upon what .html filename my wesite is displaying. So, for example if im on index.html I would like an index image to load in a movieclip and when I'm on a (anything).html i want (anything).jpg to load. I know I can do this with loadmovie and however is there a way to detect what .html page the user is on or is there a better way of going about this?
