I'm trying to build a schedule with Flash CS4 and Actionscript 3.0 for an Internet radio station. I'd like to have a .swf that I can open, drag and drop a text symbol from the Library (ideally, for design reasons), and then change the color of the text with Actionscript when the user presses a button.
I can change the color of text if I create it with Actionscript, of course, but I'm not sure how to use Actionscript to change the color of text I've created in the Flash GUI. I can't pass a TextField to a symbol and expect Flash to know what to do with it, can I?
I've been slowly expanding my Flash MX knowledge by going through some of the Kirupa tutorials. After completing the Random Letter Cycling tutorial I got an idea of how to modify it. The problem is I don't have a good grasp on writing my own Actionscript yet to try my idea.I can create a single instance of the movie clip (clip1.fla) but I am unsure of how to tie together multiple clips to create my desired idea (example.swf)Does anyone have the time to give me some pointers of how to achieve effect in the attached file? It's based on the tutorial above, but after it runs , it fades out and repeats itself a couple times. Ideally I would like each item to appear for about 2-3 seconds, fade out, and have the new one appear
I'm having trouble with dynamically assigning text to a dynamically created text field.
[Code]...
I've tried setting up the TextFormat and createTextField as a function that's called on the onRelease handler. I've tried dropping the whole frackin' code in the onRelease function for each button. Neither approach works. I've been digging around on the web, looking for answers, and nothing seems to solve my problem.
I have made a movie clip which I export to ActionScript 3.
In this movie clip I have drawn a text field (area? well TEXT) using the plain "Text Tool".
After selecting the text, and after I have entered "0" to be displayed, I edit its properties. It's Instance Name, defined at the very top of the list I have written "score". The text engine is TLF Text and the text type "Read only".
When I have made a instance of the movie clip using AS3 I can't get the value of the text instance named "score" - when calling something like trace(getChildByName("score")) in the constructor I just get null.
I want to be able to get the value of the text "score", and I would also like to change its value.
Just how do I get the value from ActionScript? I don't want to have to create the text progamatically and position it, and I doubt that I have to.
I'm trying to make an application, with I could change the value of a variable on a text file. The thing is, at this moment I have to modify the text file variables and then upload this last again and again. The file with variables could be a XML file too. I was thinking make something like a guestbook, the problem is, it would create new variables and I want to modify the existing ones.
I have a result screen that shows bonus points and such. I want each text field to increment one after another and also have it increment by a certain amount each frame. Result Screen pops up. First is the player score check the player score, is it more than the score we want to display if the player score is greater than the player display score by 100 increase the player display score by 100 if the player score is greater than the player display score by 10 increase the player display score by 10 else increase the player display score by 1 when finished move to the next score...and so on. I have thought of using timers to move from one score to the next, but not being in an Event.ENTER_FRAME it only does one if then moves to the next one.
Also the if statement for incrementing the score looks ridiculous and I'm thinking there has to be a better way to do it. I was thinking of making it a separate function but then I wouldn't know what to return, or how to return it so it looks like its increasing and not just showing the total number instantly. I'll try to expand on it a little more.
I have custom components which must adjust their text content based on space constraints. For example a component adds labels until there is no space, and then the content of the last label becomes "(x more)" I do not have access to size of child controls before adding them. When in updateDisplayList, I make changes to the layout of the component, but for labels, lblInstance.text property fires events, which lead to updateDisplayList being called again. I know that updateDisplayList may be called more than once, but if there is a way to modify text without triggering events, that'd be really useful. For example, setActualSize method in UIComponent allows this kind of modification. Anything similar for text controls? Or do you have best practices for laying out and managing text content, in the context of custom Flex components?
ActionScript Code: var stackNum:TextField = new TextField(); stackNum.everythingcondensedhere = everythingcondensedhere stackNum.type = TextFieldType.DYNAMIC;
[Code]....
It creates a textfield (and an image, but not important) and a movieclip, adds the MC to the stage and adds the image(itemLoader) and the textfield(stackNum).
And then it adds it to an array at [x][y].
Then later it calls the .stackSize, adds 1 to it, and tries to update the textfield.
Everything works except for updating the textfield, I just can't figure out what I need to use to point to it and have it change.
Is it possible to use AS3 to control the appearance of links in TLF text created using the Flash CS5 GUI? Can anyone provide an example? I have tried several meant for TLF text fields created via AS that have no effect on those already on stage.
I created a TLF Text with the Flash IDE in the main document.I've assigned it an instance name with the IDE.When I try to access the text with Actionscript I cannot access the text field.Of course if I transform in the IDE the text in classic dynamic text it works as expected.
1) Is it better to pre=render things say in photoshop or have flash render them?
2) if I have a field of stars that drift along; is it better to create that Star Field in photoshop as a single picture (say a .png) or to create a star in my library and add it to a movie clip and then have that drift along?
Lets say I have a blur effect on my stars and have an equivalent on the photoshop.
3) I have heard (and experienced) adding effects like blur takes a fair amount of CPU and memory so was wondering if I created the effect in photoshop and then imported the 'blurred' object into my flash if I could cut down on system resources?
modify an existing flash shopping cart I purchased from Flashden.net (link). The cart uses two XML files to pull in data and to configure most of the data settings. I need help with one thing: I'm using this cart on a sunglasses shopping site and I need to configure the optional sunglasses to be clickable so they can be added to the cart. I know I need to modify both the flash .fla and the xml file so I've included the code for both below. Here's a link to the website I'm trying to re-configure. The section I need to edit has the optional sunglasses on the right-hand side of the main photo.Here's the first xml file that does some of the basic settings. This file is called settings.xml.[code]I made an attachment for the actionscript code called actionscript.txt that needs to be modified. All I need to do is figure out a way to make the optional images clickable so they can be added to the main cart. We can also just create a button that says add to cart next to each sunglass option. Either way works for me. I'm even willing to compensate the person who can help me come up with a workable solution.
i need to change the animated logo's color in the left from green to blue.I have never done anything in flash before, this is the first time i've used the program, but so far i was able to figure out how to change the navigation and bar color and the text. but i can't seem to see where the color of this logo is coming from....
In screentshot 1 you can see that the Logo_Anim is made up of the Logo_1 - Logo_5 movie clips.Each of the logo_# clips is a piece of the logo.I'm not sure if something in the Logo_Anim is controlling the change in color of each piece of the logo, but it doesn't seem like the indiviual logo_#'s have any kind of setting..
I was trying to erase(using eraser tool) some portions of the jpeg file after importing it in flash.. It does not work....I even converted it to symbol but the problem remains the same. Is it permitted or I am following the wrong approach.
I had another issue with a swf file..It plays perfect in the flash player...But when the same file is imported & played in the After Effects, it displays a still frame..
var sound:Sound = new Sound(); var req:URLRequest = new URLRequest(url); sound.load(url) I want to modify the sound data (an mp3) as it comes in. Specifically, the mp3 will be encrypted using a stream cipher and I want to decrypt the data as it comes in. Is this possible using some type of event?
I have a Flash projector file which I would like to edit with Resource Hacker. I would simply like to change a few of the menu bar items (see below): Does anyone know if this is legal and will not hinder my ability to freely redistribute the file?
fix a counter on one of the flash applets he hired someone to make for him. It's AS2 and done in Flash 8.
http:[url]....
It pulls from the current time on the system clock.Essentially it's counting 4 times too slow. I am awful with even reading AS let alone trying to find the equation running this. what I need to edit in the AS to speed this up?
I'm trying to use the AlivePDF library to export text from a text editor created in AS3 into a PDF. Can anyone link me to documentation or a tutorial that can help teach me how to integrate it into a normal AS3 file? I have no idea how to use the library and the only documentation I've seen for it is how to use it in Flex/Air, which is not what I'm looking for.
I have a code that creates 10 dynamic text fields, along the "y" axis, based on a loop.
What I want to happen is, for each text field that is created, i want the numbers to constantly change based on a timer (they'll all change at the same time, but to random numbers).
Right now, the code below changes the numbers, but keeps stacking the new numbers on top of the old...
Code:
Code: var timer:Timer = new Timer(100,0);//called every Xms, repeated infinately (0); timer.addEventListener (TimerEvent.TIMER, doNumber); timer.start ();
I created a motion preset of a 3D text animation that made the text swing back and forth like a gate with the hinge on the far left side. However, when I apply the motion preset to other text, the text moves to a new location and the text swings closer to the center than the far left side. Moving the text only creates a travel path that further complicates matters.
what am I doing wrong with the motion preset? How can I save something into a preset and apply it to other things and have the animation work the way it was designed?
I can't get my text to show in a text field created at runtime within a movieclip on _root. I use a trace statement and it loads into the Output box but is not visible in the textField area..there are no masks in the movieClip.
My function for creating it...
// Call the function to create textField printBtn.onRelease = function() { makeTxtBox("text/print.txt");
I can't get the text fields that I am creating dynamically to accept html,I have tried .html = true;Am I really going to have to create my own button and use getURL?I am using flash 8, as2.
I had published the Flash project which resulted in the creation of a HTML file. I previewed what the web page would look like by opening the HTML file in a browser. The first obvious issue was that the page was not centered, but left-justified. I think that I know how to satisfy that issue by reading the HTML file into Dreamweaver and adding a <center> tag just below the <body> tag. The issue that I cannot figure out is that my page is a bit smaller than my monitor size, so there is naturally the white "fill" areas to the margins. Is there a way to change this color to black? Is that the bgcolor variable that is in the <body> tag?
I'm building an app whereby the user can upload an image and place it onstage amongst other images. They then finally save out the resulting composite image as a jog. I have all this working, however, I'm looking for a way to allow the user to manipulate the colour of their uploaded image so it blends better with the others, I'm imaging, by means of a slider or somethiing.
For the project I'm working on I need to dynamically load a SWF and then an imagine on top of that SWF. Based on mouse overs and the like that image will fade in or out. I have the dynamic implementation down, I just cannot quite seem to figure out how to manage the image file that overlays the SWF. Here's a snippet of the code I'm working with:
Code: var ldr:Loader = new Loader(); var urlReq:URLRequest = new URLRequest(thisOne.src);
i want to make a new portfolio site in flash. i was thinking on using as much server - side scripting as possible, to make in easier to update and add some features like flash guestbook/mail form and some other stuff. I was wondering. is it possible using php and mysql to add content to the portfolio without modifying the flash itself? Is there a tutorial regarding this? WHat i want, exactly is to be able to add photos, sites, prints and other stuff to my portfolio like i would add a post to this forum. the title being the title, the message being the description of the project and the pic i can attach being the photo itself.
i am making a text field that must change every time a user clicks the next button.I know how to change the text of a AS created text field and change it once more with but I need to change it about 50 times +.How would I do that without making 50 frames?
I am trying to make a quiz application. I want to use classes in this project (which I am still learning how to use). I found a sample posted by a user here that I can clearly understand. The issue I am having is that actaul text for the questions is very long. So when I apply my questions it just runs the text off of the stage. How can I have the text field drop to another line so that it doenst go off of the stage? Here is the code that creates the text field (it is on an AS file).
public function QuizQuestion(theQuestion:String, theAnswer:int, ...answers) { //store the supplied arguments in the private variables: question = theQuestion; theCorrectAnswer = theAnswer; choices = answers; //create and position the textfield (question): questionField = new TextField();
[code]....
I am guessing I need to add something where the text field is created that talks about the width of the text field and allow it to be multiline, I am just not sure how to word it in AS3...
