I've set of drop down menu which I build in Movie Clip. Things work well and the sub menu working properly. But my problem is how do I want to linking it each of the menu and subs. The problem is, all my frame and everything is inside the Movie Clip and my content of the website is outside the Movie Clip. So, how I want to navigate the button.
View 1 RepliesI'm trying to create an xml accordion menu that has main menus and a sub menus buttons (movieClips) revealed with a mask. Simple question, How do I stop the mask area which reveals the sub menus catching mouseEvents on the submenus?The main menu button is a movieClip, it has the mask sprite attached to it as a property so it can scale dynamically to reveal the subMenus. They are set as children of the main menu button container. In my code I've set mainMenu.mouseChildern = true. But when the mainMenu is clicked I change mouseEnabeled = false to help prevent the main menu receiving events. This helps on rollOver rollOut events, but when I click or mouseDown on the subMenu the mask catches the event also and activates the main menu again. I've tried the obvious mask.mouseEnabled = false; mask.mouseChildern = false; mask.hitArea = null; and even setting mask.alpha = 0 but this has no effect at all.
I don't understand why the mask has to extend the hitArea property of the mainMenu and why this can't be set to null. It also seems crazy that when mouseChildren = true the parent clip also has to receive notice of the event.
I have a main fla, which has some buttons on the stage. When you click on a button an external swf loads(using loadMovie method) inside container_mc which is an empty movieclip.
On that specific external swf, I have created an empty movieclip called content_mc which also loads external swfs.
Is it possible to call the content_mc from the main fla? For example when clicking a button of the main fla, how can I point to content_mc which is part of the external swf?
I created "symbol1" movie clip. And I have dynamic text "myscore" on the main stage.
I have this code inside of "symbol1".

And it gives me this error. (1120: Access of undefined property myscore.)
It works only when text and actionscript inside of the same symbol. I tried like this root.myscore.text = "30"; but it still doesn't work.
I make a website. First I have a frame with a movieclip, where my entire page is within.Inside of that is where all of my pages is in different frames, and in each of these frames there are other movieclips with content. My example:Top level /Entire site/My pages, in different frames /Movies/Pictures/About/Etc./Content (inside the "Movies") /Info about movies/Movie one/Movie two/Etc./My problem is as easy as this: I will link from the "My pages" level, to the first frame in "Content" (info about movies)If i just link to the, "Movies" frame, I can't get from "Movie One" to Info about movies by pressing the button, wich lies on the "My pages" Level.
View 4 RepliesI'm implementing swfaddress in my project, which starts with a main swf with various menus. When a menu item is clicked, it signals a url change, and the url change loads a corresponding external swf. All works swimmingly here. But... what if I wanted to have another menu from within the loaded external swf, and have that have its own loaded external swfs, url change etc, as well? For example, on my home page, there is a menu item called "news". Once "news" is clicked, the url changes and loads a "news.swf" into a holder on the main swf. Now, in the "news.swf" there is yet another menu, this one with two buttons: one button says "Article 1" and the other "Article 2" and each would signal a URL change and load "article1.swf" and "article2.swf" respectively when clicked. Is there a way to get the menus on the external swf to communicate with the swfaddress that is happening from within the main swf so that every swf has it's own url address and different events triggered by that change?

I am making a website purely on flash (actionscript 2.0), for a school project, and I have set up one frame for each page. I also made a drop down menu, but unfortuantely I can't link them to the actual pages, since the drop down menu is a movie clip, if I use an actionscript such as:[code]it goes to the 3rd frame in the movie clip and not the main scene.

I Have a flashmovie thats almost done and will soon hit the internet, but I want to add some animations into the website it�s two gears that I�m about to put at the bottom of the page and when a button releases in the main flashmovie the two bottom gears will turn a few frames and just stand still.These three movies are all separate (main movie, first gear and second gear).
It's a homepage designed in HTML and flash that has this "main flashmovie" in the middle of the screen, the size is about 1500(width)X800(height). And the gears is about 800wX200h placed at the left and right side bottom of the page. Dont worry the site is easy to apply to any screen resolution.I have been looking everywhere for any soul out there who suffering from the same problem but no success. Is it possible to script a button in the main movie to launch two separate movies in their own contents?

View 15 RepliesI have a file with 4 movieclips on the main timeline. 2 of the clips (home_btn, benefits_btn) are used as buttons with rollovers, submenu, etc. The other 2 clips (home_mc, benefits_mc) are basic content. What I've been trying to do for a couple days now is to link from a submenu button (benCor1_btn, not a mc btn) inside benefits_btn to a frame label inside a mc (benefits_mc, "b1"). I've attached my FLA file for some to look at my code and tell what the heck I'm doing wrong.

Everything works fine, except I can't seem to figure out how to get the buttons to link to the main timeline. All I want is them to gotoAndPlay ("frameLableOnTheMainTimeline"). I was just wondering if it was possible to link the buttons on my flash bar to open the pages into the main frame below my navigation bar? Im making a movie with a menu that loads movie clips according to which menu is selected simple enough. However, the newly loaded movie clip also needs to allow the user to load another movie into the main movie effectively swapping the first movie clip with the second. This needs to be done without using the main menu.

Working on an RPG type flash, and I have to be able to control a text-box from quite a few locations. The one that is causing me trouble is the inventory. I need to be able to access the textbox with an instance of "statusWindow" from within the inventory clip (instance name "inventory"), so when I mouse over an item within the movieclip it will change the status window on the stage.In this instance I want to mouse over inventory.invHealth from the main timeline to get the display.itemName and itemProps are strings containing information about the item.I tried the following but it gave me a "possibly undefined" error.

I have a scrollpane in my library.Inside a movieclip, I create an image gallery and add it to the scrollpane.I do this in this function.[code]Now everything works fine, and no problems occur.I do however get the runtime error TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. at fl.containers::ScrollPane/endDrag()It doesnt seem to affect my file, but I am sure it would be better to try and get rid of it.I think it has something to do with adding my movieclip to the main movieclip, and maybe.I am not removing it when I add a different movieclip.Whenever I add a movieclip to the main one, I use container_mc.addChild(...);Does addChild check to see if a movieclip already exist, and remove it if it does? Or do I need to remove my clips beforehand?

Inside this movieclip I have several buttons and movieclips.The problem I have is with the reference "this" inside the class file.When I write "this" I get a reference to my movieclip "Main". But when I write this.button I dont get a reference to my buttons inside the "Main" movieclip. The button have an instanse name "button".

- my main movie is (a) and when i click a button there, it will go to external movie (b)
- under external movie (b) there's a movie clip that includes my animation and content button
- if i click on the content button on movie (b), external movie (c) will pop up [ it will not replace movie (b) but will just overlap it, it's like a small pop up ]
i did the actionscript and when i'm testing external movie (b), it's working... it's showing/popping up movie (c) but when i tried it on the main movie (a), the movie (c) is not popping on the (b) err, sorry if it's a bit confusing / how i explained it. but hopefully somebody will get the idea. and it won't also return on the main movie (a) when i click on a link from the external movie.
I have a html page that has a link, which links to another html page with a flash file on. What i need is when this flash page is accessed i need a new movie to load, which would usually load from the navigation when someone clicks on a button.Is there anyway to link to a page which then loads a new movie into the main movie. can this be done???

In my main AS, I am using a MovieClip as a Container despite of the stage. In another AS file, I want to take the Container as a reference as well as addChild (such as bullets etc) to it, but I really don't know how to write the code.
If I only addChild in the current (sub)AS, it's working, but it's just a problem to removeChild.
Im trying to make a button within a movie clip play another movie clip (within the same movie clip as the button) and go to the nextframe as well, is it even possible and if it is how?
