if it is possible to make a game where two individual computers play the same game against each other. If so, is there any information out there explaining the steps? I have read a lot of books on making flash games. Also, does anyone know if [URL] is worth paying for a subscription?

View 1 RepliesI have an air application that I'd like to turn into a multi-player game. I'd like to have 2-40 concurrent connections per "room". We would like to have 1-10 rooms going at once in the beginning. I'd like for users to be able to share voice and video but that's not a requirement.
Users will be racing each other based on data that's updated once every second, so ping doesn't have to be super low. 1000ms would be fine but lower is preferred.[URL]..
Cirrus looks perfect. I've heard some problems about firewall and port settings, but was wondering if anyone had experience with at home users and Cirrus. Another problem is that it's been in labs for ever. You can get RTMFP with Flash Media Server Enterprise but that's like 60k-70k per processor, way out of our price range. I've also looked at [URL] but it doesn't support RTMFP. I know we can host this on AWS and maybe save some money.
There is an open source project (cumulus) that implements RTMFP too but I've read that it's more of a POC then a production ready project. The license is also GPL which doesn't work for our commercial application. I've also looked at[URL].. but again, no RTMFP integration.The reason I like RTMFP is because we can scale without a lot of server cost. I know it's a closed protocol from Adobe and it looks like wowza or red5 won't be implementing it any time soon.
Is there an affordable (not 70k per processor) server tech for multi-player gaming that you can use with AIR/Flash that scales well?
I am trying to create my first semi-serious flash game. The problem I am having is I want to be able to click a button in the players inventory to equip a different armor to the player, and have that armor work in the game on the same movieclip(Player) without having to re-make all the attacks and moves etc. for each change on another movieclip. My ideas are extremely novice like putting each armor and update on a different frame inside the Player movieclip and then doing a gotoAndStop to the frame. Though that may work I don't know how to goto a frame inside a movieclip. I would like to control this using as much code as possible.I would paste my code but I don't have any code for this part of the game so far. I have tried some simple coding but so far I cannot get the pieces together.

View 3 RepliesI'm trying to integrate a Flash Professional/AS3 game into Facebook. The swf is hosted on a secure (https) server. The swf has to connect to a SmartFoxPro socket server on another domain.I'm using the Facebook Actionscript API to interface with Facebook. (Should I use PHP, instead? I read an article that recommends using PHP, because the Actionsrcipt API may not be kept up to date.) When I fire up my app, I get a "Security Information" pop-up box saying that the page contains both secure and nonsecure items. I click "yes" to all the display of the nonsecure items.
Then, I get an "XD Proxy blah-blah-blah" popup. This pop-up goes away, and then my app logs in to my SmartFox server.So... What is this "XD Proxy" window? I think it looks unprofessional, and users may think there's an error with the app. Also, can I block or hide the "Security Information" pop-up? Why don't I see this in other FB apps?

View 6 RepliesI am currently having a problem with Flash CS5. I am trying to link a sound file to my Flash game without having to put it on the stage. It would play when my character got hit by an enemy. The problem is is that when I go to edit the properties, all of the options except to play the sample are all blanked out. I mean, if u are holding down shift+d+f the final key f doesn't work bec. of keyboard buffer. etc. If someone know what kind of keys are the best match for flash 2 player game post them here please. So when like 6 keys are pressed at one time, the last keys pressed, will still work. And player won't get stuck.

In my game people shoot at 4 different moving images and get points. Simple right? Well one of the images is a question mark that people can shoot and when they do, I need flash to pause the game timer, pop up a new window, display the multiple choice question in the window and wait for the user to answer. I would also like to be able to customize the size and location of the pop up window!
Then if the question is answered correctly close window award 10 points and continue the game. If the question is answered incorrectly, say wrong and then display the end game results screen. Right now I have it to where it opens a pop up in a web browser and askes the question there. The question is randomly chosen from a file called random.html. But I do not want the game to operate that way. I want the game to open the pop up within flash.
I have built a flash game. It seems to load fine. I have a landing screen that clicks to the first question. At the first question I can mouse across the answers, but it will not progress. In addition the music does not play. After a few minutes it does play and plays each time. If I empty my cache file it does the same.

View 1 RepliesI'm developing a web-based fantasy football game. Most of the game is a straight-forward web application built on top of Linux/Apache/Php/MySQL.
I'm trying to figure out how to implement the draft application. The draft date and time will be scheduled in advance by each league's owner. Up to 32 users may be logged on for a given league's draft, and there is no limit to how many drafts may be happening concurrently. The users will take turns selecting players, and each user's turn will have a time limit. I'd like for all the users to be able to see whose turn it is, how much time that user has left to select a player, who they select, and which players are still available. If there are users in the league who are not logged in during the draft I'd like to be able to detect that and automatically assign players to them rather than waiting for the time to run out on their turn. Ideally I'd also like to have a chat window so the users could chat with one another during the draft.
My background is in desktop application development, so if necessary I could write server code in C#/.NET or Java. As far as I can see these are the options: PHP/AJAX - It seems like it would be possible to have all the state for the draft in the database and have the operations for the draft run in PHP triggered by requests from the clients? I guess in this case the draft doesn't start until at least one user logs in, and it seems like it would be a lot of polling requests to the server if I want everyone notified quickly when a user makes a selection.

I'm trying to make a game where the player moves and the background scrolls to make it look like the player is moving but really the background is. The problem is whenever I blow something up in the game the explosion follows the player instead of staying with the background.
