For some reason, the same code works now, without any problem at all. I don't know what happened, or why, but I no longer have this problem Here's the original post: To put simply, I created a MovieClip, put it with addChild() to stage, and when I tried to call this piece of code:
I'm trying to change the text on a textbox called "text1" that is part of a movieclip called "menulist" using actionscript. How can I access text1 with actionscript?[code]
I have a really peculiar problem that relates to the old question of how to best access the instance of the document class from a different class. I usually add a 'this' as parameter when I create an instance of another class inside the document class. Then I save this 'this' in a class property of the type 'Object'. It usually works just fine but lately I have encountered a really bizzarr error.
When my movie first starts I have to load 2 xml-Files. I do that in another class - that calls upon the document class instance when it is finished. I use 4 methods for that, each calling the other, when it is finished. (like one doing loader.load(urlRequest), then loader.addEventListener (Event.Complete, nexthandler) and so on
Now, when I call back to my document class from the last of these 4 methods it works just fine. But when I try skipping the first two methods (since I now need only one xml-File) - my try/catch-statement suddenly complains: TypeError: Error #1010! Like it needed more time to establish the instance of the document class or something similar strange.
I have a main document class with another class instanciated (mouse follower.as) within it. I want the mouse follower class to access a stage instance. How is this done?
access one instance of a MovieClip on the stage (blue_mc) from within the class file of another MovieClip (red_mc).e.g. One instance of "Blue" on the stage called "blue_mc", and one instance of "Red" on the stage called "red_mc". Both symbols are linked to class files (Blue.as and Red.as).In Red.as, I set up a function to listen for a mouse down event. When this is triggered, I want to move the instance blue_mc. At the moment, though, I can't seem to get a reference to blue_mc.I've looked into the new stage and root properties, but even though blue_mc is on the stage, it cannot be accessed using stage.getChildByName( "blue_mc" ) either.
I have created some (TextInput, ComboBox, CheckBox) Component instances (created as a public objects) in a Document class and added them to the stage.
Now I have created a custom class for a movieclip in library and instantiated it in the document class (also a public instance).
I need to access the component instances in the custom class. How to do this ?
Also, Is it a good practice to use ENTER_FRAME event frequently ? because if I can't access the above components instances in the custom class then I will be left with no choice but to use ENTER_FRAME event in the document class every time I need to change some value in the components...
I'm with a doubt that is crashing my project over here. Example: I have my class....
Code: package { public class SoundPlayer extends CheckVersion{ public static var saveId:Object = {}; public function SoundPlayer($url, $vars):void{ trace(saveId[$url]) // here the class return to me the first call [Code] .....
If I access SoundPlayer.Init(), I pass my URL and my variables, I got the first access, but for example, when I save this variables on my constructor and want to access again with a different call, the flash output returns like "null", like... SoundPlayer.PlayInit("myId"); take a look bellow
Code: public static function PlayInit($url :String):SoundPlayer { trace(SoundPlayer.saveId[$url] as SoundPlayer); return SoundPlayer.saveId[$url] as SoundPlayer; } How I can access this variables in second time?
Currently I have two classes which are "bullet" and "enemy".There are two instances of the enemy class.Code from an ENTER_FRAME event in the Bullet Class:
The Enemy Class has a private variable called "hits".What do I have to do in order to reduce the hits of the instance of the enemy that was hit by the bullet?
I have a stage with instances of bauble_mcs on it that are attached by the document class of the main timeline (can someone tell me what the right term is here? I don't know what I call the main time line in AS3).I then have instances of snow_mc attached by the same class. Inside the snow_mc I want to test to see if it is hitting any bauble_mcs but I don't know how!
inside snow_mc I am trying:
PHP Code:
if(this.hitTestObject(this.parent.bauble_mc)){ }
to which flash says:
1119: Access of possibly undefined property bauble_mc through a reference with static type flash.displayisplayObjectContainer.
I have an xml and it has items, you can trace the items in Flash, but how do I call them to allow me to identify that object getting clicked on the stage?
So I have a MovieClip symbol created in the Flash IDE with a baseClass of flash.display.MovieClip and Class name of "Square". I have placed it on the timeline of my fla at frame 30 and given it an instance name of "square". How can I control that MovieClip from my DocumentClass? I have an ENTER_FRAME listener listening for the arrival of frame 30. At that time I want to simply do something to the "square" MovieClip. But I keep getting a compile-time error of "1119: Access of possibly undefined property square through a reference with static type flash.displayisplayObject.".
I've only been programming in as3 for a couple months, and so far I've written several compositional classes that take MovieClips as inputs to handle behaviors and interactions in a simple game I'm creating. One problem I keep coming upon is that I'd love to access the custom variables I define within one class from another class. In the game I'm creating, Main.as is my document class, from which I invoke a class called 'Level1.as' which invokes all the other classes I've written.Below I've pasted my class 'DieLikeThePhishes'. For example, I would love to know the syntax for accessing the boolean variable 'phish1BeenHit' (line 31) from another class. I've tried the dot syntax you would use to access a MovieClip inside another MovieClip and it doesn't seem to be working for me.[code]

I can't find a way to directly access a MC (or textfield, etc) on the timeline from a Class loaded into my Document Class. No problem from the Doc Class, but can't do it directly from the loaded Class. Is there a trick to essentiall extend the Doc Class AS from another external class?
I have a movieclip instance named 'placeholder' on the canvas, and I want to change the alpha of the named movieclip from it's class without effecting the alpha of all the movieclips of the same type. How would I specifically target the named movieclip instance that is on the canvas?
Here is the situation:I have created a movieClip named "tp_crack" on the timeline and created its class using linkage called "tp_crack".The tp_crack mc is like a small rectangle which breaks in 3 seconds when it is played.I have a seperate class in which I have used tp_crack to create many instances of tp_crack going by the names: cracked1","cracked2" etc.These instances are present in another movieClip (this time created within the class) called "crackContainer".Now I have added the following code to check for hitTest of those cracked1,2,3...... with a spaceship.The hitTest works but flash does not recognize the pieces as movieClips and does not play them as required, instead it gives me an error saying:1061: Call to a possibly undefined method play through a reference with static type flash.displayisplayObject.
for (var i:uint=0; i<crackedPieces; i++) { if (crackContainer.getChildAt(i).hitTestPoint(Spacesh ip.x,Spaceship.y+(Spaceship.height/2),true)) {
this works, but what If I want to change a variable declared in the button?
I would like to retrieve from an XML the movie I want to load pressing this particular button, but seems like the scope of the "designed" objects and the programmed object is a little different, since with
[Code]....
I've included a simplified version of the interface, the classes and the code is not 100% functional...
1.I have a MovieClip in the Library. There is a named and dynamic text box in the MovieClip. In Frame 1 of the .fla, I construct the MovieClip from the class StatusBoard and add it to the stage. There is one setStatus method in the class to set the text. This works fine.[code]
2.I have a bunch of buttons that I created from a class called LinkButton.as (they are MovieClips, not _btn buttons). FWIW, they are attached to other MovieClips, but they work fine. The trace output is fine. What I am trying to do is have the rollover change the text in the billboard.[code]
3. In lay terms, I used addChild to add a MovieClip with a dynamic TextField to the stagw and I want MovieClip buttons created from an .as class to be able to change the text on a rollover.What I can't seem to do is actually reference the billboard that I added using addChild from the .fla.The buttons work and trace the desired text, I can't seem to send that text to the billboard.
I'm working on a small networked game (server is written in C# ready to go). I've completed all of the networking classes utilizing xmlsockets (socket handling, packets etc). My issue is once you get to the login screen and attempt to authorize a packet is sent depending if your login has been accepted so if it has you delete the login movieclip and show the game movieclip but I can't access it from my static class (it was created on the main stage).
Instead of posting my entire files and such, I'll make a brief example of my situation and my desired outcome. My files consist of my document class entitled Engine.as and another class Abilities.as all within the same folder. On my stage I have a MovieClip with the instance name of item1_mc. On its personal timeline I have 2 frames, one entitled "inactive" and the other "active". Here's a sample of very similar code....
I'm new to AS3 and I'm trying to load a data from a XML file ("AppData") and set the data (text) in a dynamic text field("Label") on the stage. For accessing and manipulating the XML file ,I have an external as file with a class called "DataClass". And I running scripts in project frame to access the data from XML in the class "DataClass" to set it in the text field.
I have a base class which is being created via remote_object [RemoteClass alias] from the server.I have other specialized classes that are derived from this baseclass, but serialization with the server always happens with the base class.The base class has meta data that defines what the derived class is, for example
[RemoteClass (alias="com.myco...')] public Class Base {
I have a Movieclip in my .fla which I exported for actionscript. I also have a class in a .as file. I would like to access this Movieclip from within my ass.I have tried this in my class:private var myMC:Test = new Test();addChild(myMC);But I get "1120: Access of undefined property myMC"
