I have an image with seven distinct colors. I would like for each color to be linked to a separate html page if clicked. Can flash link to a page based on the color of the area clicked?
View 3 RepliesIn a nutshell, the swf contains four ads (which link to portions of the site) and each ad uses the Timer element, displaying it for 5 seconds before moving on to the next one. Everything has come together nicely (although I'd like to clean up the code and use classes at a later date - I'm currently taking AS training from Lynda.com).
What's giving me trouble right now is the navigation bar. What I want to do is create four numerical buttons that a) change color during a mouse roll over b) change color for a corresponding ad (for example, when the third ad displays, the number "3" changes from white to gray to show that it is active and goes back to white when the fourth ad comes up).
Right now, I'm at a loss as to what to do. I've tried making the numbers buttons, but I can't control color changes unless I create two sets of buttons: one with white numbers, one with gray numbers.This also makes for some really bizarre Actionscript coding ideas (ex: after I code the function for the gray nav buttons, I have to code functions that make the white buttons work - but this ends up screwing with the ad cycles). I tried making them as movie clips, but I lose the ability to assign a large hit area like I can with buttons.
i want to draw a map of a campus. then when you click on different buildings, the building pops up big (possibly with text alongside it)any links to a tutorial how to do this?
View 8 RepliesUsing AS3, how can I attach links to outbound websites? I have a button graphic dragged onto the timeline. It is meant to function much like a "hot spot". So, I would like to attach the script to the button so that it will link to another website when clicked upon. But where do I add the script in AS3, and what is that script to be? ~ For example, do I need to go into edit mode where I see the 4 states, or can I simply attach it to the main timeline? - I'm looking to do whatever's the simplest!
Also, the button is called myButton in my library...can I use that same button for everywhere I want to add an outbound link to different websites, or am I going to have to change the name for every different link? For example, myButton02, myButton03? I'm hoping to use the same graphic button, and hoping the timeline will understand and follow the script instead of being confused and all links wind up going to the same site.

I'm currently working in Flash mx 2004 and am creating a version of 'what happened in history today'. So my final layout will have the following iobjects.
Heading: 'current date'
Title: 'On this day in History'
Text box: Which displays the right description from a text file. history.txt
Image box: which displays a pic related to the current date.
I know basic Flash but have been playing around for ages am having real trouble getting things to work correctly. The main priority is to get the text loaded based on the current date. I have an images folderwhere the pictures are stored with files names related to date i.e. 14feb.jpg and my history.txt file is set out with a line for each date. i.e., 14feb=Valentines Day etc.

I'm sure the data points mentioned are predefined beforehand rather than "live", so thta part's fine, but how are the secondary nodes spread out, how does double clicking on another one, open up another set?
View 1 RepliesI was wondering what the best practice was for creating text links in flash? I know how to create a button of course, give it an up, over and hit state. What I normally do is copy the text into each frame, and change the colour for each so that the user can tell when they're hovering and hitting the button. For the hit status, I draw a square for the hit.
But this can be time consuming if you have a lot of text links throughout your site. Especially if you want to change the text colour of your over and hit frames.
So I looked into making a better solution using Actionscript, which was having a function for each of the status, where you change the colour of the button.
I was wondering if anyone else had any other thoughts or wanted to share how they do their text links?
I'm relatively new to AS3. There's one thing that I don't quite understand about Sprites. I'm making a tile based game, and all the tile graphics for a level are inside one movie clip in each frame. Would I be able to go about creating multiple sprites based on the frames in said movieclip's timeline I would I have to go through and make a separate library graphic for each.

View 1 RepliesWhat I am trying to accomplish is creating a flash based form. Basically a form that people fill out if they want to book an event. so there would be several fields to fill out. Name, Date and Time of Event, Contact Number, ect. there would be text fields to fill out and combo boxes. I just want a simple form where people fill out that info, it makes sure that everything is filled out before submitting. then when you submit it, it sends the info to a master email... where we can check it and get the info. does any one know of anything similar that i can use as reference to help me accomplish this?

But on the project detail pages, there are Flash videos that also change slightly based on which color scheme is selected.

If you start playing the video, and change color schemes, the flash player will change to the right color, but on refreshing, it doesn't remember that change. How do I modify to code below so that the Flash player reads the correct color scheme and takes action?

Is there any opensourse, free set of components for creating Flex mxml graphs? like aviary Peacock style ones with at least Drag, drop, and connect generators so each graph element could have or something like that. Framework should be opensource (like GPL, LGPL etc) BTW: I found one wary bacic made by Erno Aapa with Degrafa but I would really love to see something much more Flex 4 - mxml oriented and frienfdly.

The problem is when you whip the mouse over them quickly and it leaves the dimensions of the project, flash thinks the mouse is still there and the links continue their animation. I am trying to generate a list of links via xml using as3. I have created a movie linkHolder and a text field called linkText.
I then add link text to linkHolder and add linkHolder to the stage. I have an eventListener attached to linkHOlder which calls a function and when I roll over the links it activates the function correctly.
How do I give a unique id or reference to each button so that I can pull up the correct link associated with it?

I am creating a flash website that is pretty much loading everything externally. I have some links that are loaded in by xml and I would like for them to change color when you rollover them. Ok I will give you the full actionscript and then the few excerpts from that actionscript where I think it should go, but hey I could be wrong it hasn't worked for me yet. heh.

I tried searching for an answer but did'nt have much luck. I decided to finally learn how to do a web page in Flash and everything is progressing except for text links. I'm importing a .psd file and I keep the text as editable, the page has 5 text links plus a text logo, the logo text link works when tested (returning to the home page) but the links to the other pages do nothing.
I have tried each one seperately, pointing to both the intended page as well as the home page with no luck, the only one that I can get to work is the logo text. I have also tried grouping the text for links seperate from static text in Photoshop. I'm sure it's something simple and I'm probably over thinking things but whatever the case I can't get it to work.
I have to make a list every document linked in a multiple .fla files. I can pull them up doing a find for .pdf but I can't figure out how to copy the links from the results field. Each file links to 1000+ pdfs, so i'd like to avoid doing this one at a time. Is there a way to export the results of the find function to a .xml or .txt file?

The If and Else statement both work fine, but the Else IF statement does not work at all. The color will not change when the movie clip is between those two x values.

I am building a website through flash. For the past couple of weeks all of the links have been working fine up until now. I have no idea what I could have possibly done to make this happen. In HTML none of the links work. They are all linked up fine, I even re-linked some of them. Nothing happens. The buttons do nothing.
View 7 RepliesI use Flash 8.I'm making this very simple Nav Box where on certain links open in a new window/tab. Those links work great.But most of the links are set to open in the same window that the Nav Box is on. When saving the SWF and HTML, the links work great.
The problem comes when I place it on other pages/sites. The "Self" links never work. Here are samples.

Unless I'm mistaken, the way flash works, it matters not which server it is on so long as it's directory is public. This enables the flash to be placed on any page (via it's root link / Embedding code) and still have it's buttons work.
I just downloaded a trial of Flash CS5 and made a few text changes on my file then i uploaded the .swf file and all the links are undefined.

I am creating a flipbook application for a magazine. I am using Flash CS4(AS3) to build a navigation interface which contains a UILoader that loads magazine pages in SWF format created by InDesign CS5.Initially I was loading one large SWF file for the magazine pages. Internal links on the table of contents worked great but the load time was ridiculous. Now I am loading individual SWF files for each spread (adjacent pages) and the load time is great, however the links on the table of contents no longer work, which I expected.
The links still appear to be on the page however they don't appear to do anything. I have managed to interrogate the display list objects within the SWF file and the links appear to be of SimpleButton type. Some are even recognized as having HTML significance, they are given an instance name of "Hlnk#" instead of just "Instance#".I think my problem is that I can't/don't know how to get to the event that is triggered by the link/SimpleButton object. If I could see what page it is referencing I could load it.
I've been given a bunch of .swf (about 100) that I need to link together. Rather than doing it manually, old-school style, I decided to write a document class that will sort the content, animate transitions and create links automatically. The basic idea is that all content on the stage conforms to a naming convention whereby all buttons are prefixed with "btn_" + nameofswf.swf - the code recognises this and adds event listeners. The background image is simply called "background". I might add some further functionality later for rollovers, depending on what I need. As a frame script, the code works perfectly - it's when I converted into a class the fun begins.
