Professional :: Drop Down Menu's Don't Close With Fast Mouse Movement?
Jul 8, 2010
I am an extreme novice in Flash and I've built a drop down menu following a tutorial from YouTube - sadly this took me days! It functions BUT fast mouse movement away from the menu drop down seems to prevent the drop down menu from closing. Does anyone know of a fix for this?
Second question - I know how to create text links but when I do this the text's position jumps down without me having told it to. So is there a way to apply a link to a button rather than the text in the button, and is it possible to also apply a link to a movie clip?[URL]...
I'm creating an animated (in and out) drop down menu. I've managed to get the menu to open when the user mouses over, with the buttons all selectable. However I can't seem to find an efficient method of making the drop down menu close whenever the mouse is not over the menu. Actions:
This feels pretty hacky, but don't have a better way yet. I put an invisible button on the stage behind the drop down and gave it the onclick event to close the menu. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Seems like it is being covered up by something occasionally, but there is nothing there to cover it up and it is VERY inconsistent as to what mouse locations it does and doesn't work in.
Im looking for a quick solution (if its out there) using the autohide feature using the FLV Playback Component.
Current situation: Using ActionScript 2. The FLV component fills the stage. Autohide is set to true.
It looks to me that since the video fills the stage, the skin will not hide. What I would like to do is have the skin fade out if the mouse doesnt move for a certain period of time.
The buttons on this drop down menu ocassionally get stuck when I roll the mouse over the button too quickly. I am working in Flash and running in the project of Flash Player 8.
this menu in this website can i change hte menu from vertical to horizontal or someone have horizontal menu with drop down sub and XML can give i can use ??
I have got this example off the net and made it work [URL].. Looks fantastic, but now my question is, if it is all produced through script, how do I put a listener on each button to react when they get clicked?
I would like to create something similar to this: and only need a few things to complete it.What is missing is to make the whole flash movie (the white area, including the watches and cursor) move from left to right and right to left depending on the movement of the cursor (round circle) .. Panning effect I have attached the file i am working on..maybe that makes it easier to understand
i got the drop down menu to come down once rolled over but it cancels out all other actions meaning it cancels the functions of the rest of the menu none of my other buttons work nowhow can i fix this?each button has its own action ie:
It has been awhile since I have worked in flash.Right now I am working on something where I would like a panel to disappear when someone mouses off the stage.stage.addEventListener(Event.MOUSE_LEAVE, leaveHandler); It usually works fine but if I move my mouse really fast it doesn't fire. I have also tried the same thing using a custom invisible button that surounds the perimeter of the stage and I have tried ROLL_OVER and MOUSE_OVERand again, if I do it too fast my event doesn't fire (I am using trace)I can't find anything on the net about this - is this typical of flash that if you move your mouse too fast you break it? Do I need to increase my frame rate (I would really rather not because I have perfectly timed animations - I am at 30 frames per second)
I would like 2 objects that I can drag up and down indipendantly with the mouse (vertically only) between set limits. I would also like a line between the two objects that stretches like a piece of elastic.
I have designed a menu that When you mouse over it, a custom cursor appears. When you mouse down it disappears and when you mouse up it returns. If you happen to mouse down and then drag the mouse off of the menu (whilst in mouse down) and then mouse up outside the menu, the custom cursor disappears. All good. The only issue is: If you happen to mouse down on the menu and then drag the mouse off of the menu AND off of the stage, i.e the SWF (whilst in mouse down) and then mouse up completely off of the stage, the custom cursor appears at the point it left the menu. I have tried to fix this using MOUSE_LEAVE but this dosnt work when the mouse button is pressed down. I have attached an FLA, SWF and the AS below.
I have a mc (fStrip) which looks like a piece of filmstrip with thumbnail images in it. I want this mc to move when the users mouse is positioned over it, but I only want it to move only along it's x-axis and in a direction opposite that of the mouse. And I want it to move or flow smoothly.
I've been trying to figure this out (see my lame attempt below) but without much luck.
onClipEvent (mouseMove) { buffer=20 //movement buffer mousePos=_root.fStrip._xmouse //store mouse position if (mymouse!=_root.fStrip._xmouse){ //if the mouse has moved
I have been working on a horizontal AS3 draggable menu for some time now and i am almost there with it. I am basically trying to replicate the menu at [url]...
So far i have got everything to work apart from the easing movement when the menu is dragged. The menu is quite simple, it is made up of a container mc.Inside this container there are 6 buttons which fill the dimensions of the container.The container itself is bigger than the stage and the user must click and drag the menu horizontally to see the rest of the menu.This is working. However, i am still after an easing effect when the menu is being dragged as it stops dead (because it is using the startDrag and stopDrag commands).how to implement an easing effect on the dragging of this menu i would be so grateful as i cannot manage to do it! (perhaps using tweenlite or tweenmax if its easier, or by using simple physics - I have attached a zip file that contains a compiled SWF and a CS4 FLA file.This is the AS3 i have so far:
I've been doing flash for a while, but I've never been good at coding. I'm trying to make a navigation bar for a website that follows the path of a mouse. Some examples are below: [URL] I'm looking to create something similar, however instead of having a bar slide through, I think I want an animated mask.
I want to set a default background image behind the text of the buttons, and a mask that fades out ontop of the background layer but behind the text. For those who don't understand... imagine a flashlight being pointed at a wall in a pitch black room. The circular source of light gives light to the background.Different from the examples above, I need to figure out how to make it follow the mouse exactly, instead of jumping to the next button automatically? I also suck at masks, but I'll be able to look that up. Are they animatable, or should I use a layer that is semi transparent in a circular area?
I have made an image sequence that listens to mouse movement left or right (if i move the mouse 1 px left - the previous frame appears, and if mouse moves right - the following frame appears).My problem is that the transition between the frames, when moving the mouse too fast, appears to be very "jumpy" (the sequence can move from frame 20 to 25 when the mouse moves too fast, making it look very bad) Can I control it like there is a max speed for the mouse movement? Or maybe a max speed for the frame transitions (frame-by-frame)?ere is my code that listens to the mouse event:
if (Flag) { var activeMouseX = stage.mouseX; if (activeMouseX > prevMouseX){
I have created an XML driven Drop Down menu using the kirupa tut by Senocular found here. I am trying to figure out how to get the submenus to push the rest of the main menu down on rollover kind of like this. Not sure where to start to get the AS to get the button created fromt he XML nodes to move down.I haven't changed the code found int he tut too much and the menu works fine except that the rollovers just go over the main menu.
Can somebody take a look at my .fla file and tell me why exactly my menu is not dropping down at all?If you download my file go to scene 3. that is where my Navigation Bar is.URL...
ive followed Senoculars drop-down menu tute [URL], awsome stuff, but it seems the submenu's dont disappear to well when you roll out. ..They only disappear if you click on another menu item or when you click outside the menu.
Each time I make a drop down menu I face some problems, For example, when I use tweening to roll out a menu ( via ROLL_OVER/ ROLL_OUT), sometimes the menu gets stuck, or starts flickering after it is rolled out if I move the cursor away, and move back on it.
How could I solve this, should I use a timer to disable the button until the tween finishes (or this would be good for nothing)?
I'm using CS5 actionscript 2. I would like to create hovering text when one mouses over an item in the navigation window (please see pic). You know, something that would act like a brief abstract to give the user more info re: whether or not they need to click on that link.At present, the nav_mc is linked to an xml doc FYI (the nav_mc accordians in and out, but doesn't have to). I input what I want the menu and submenu to say in the xml nodes and it shows up. It would be cool if the hover text added could also be xml driven tooI am green to this so the more detail the better. Do I need to create a new xml doc? new .swf? How do I link this? Should I use Flash Builder or Catalyst?
I am trying to make a sliding menu whose speed is responsive to _xmouse (slow at the center and fast at the sides...) does it need to exist in two pieces? The problem is that it seems impossible to define 0(zero) as anything but just that...
I need a tutorial for a hierarchical drop down menu system that drops down 3 sub levels. Do I make the items in the sub menus individual buttons and then insert them into a movie clip or make every sub menu item a movie clip and insert them into buttons?
I love Senocular's XML-Driven Drop-Down Tutorial. But I can't seem to get it to make the menu headers look different from the submenus.
(and if anyone is interested, i've turned it into a horizonal menu... reply and i'll post the code. better yet, help me fix the GUI issue and i'll post it )
I'm trying to teach myself ActionScript 3 and I've made amovie clip where on 'roll-over' and image fades in and on'roll-out' the image fades out. It works great as long as I movethe mouse slowly. But if I go too fast, it locks up on the fade inand doesn't realize the the roll-out has already happened.
I'm looking for something similar to the click to display a textfield in the code snippet menu. I want the textfield to appear when i hover over the box and for the textfield to go away when the mouse is no longer on the box. How do I do this?
I have an array for my menu and submenus.It works fine, but I have to click again on the menu to close it.When it's open it's completly open it takes too much space.how I could make a menu close when I click on another menu item..this is the code on the frame on my main timeline:
