I have an application that has a dynamic text area that pulls in XML content and i would like to have the text area grow, rather than use a scrollbar and i am wondering if anyone has done this or can point me in the right direction? I have dont quite a few searches and only find examples on how to do this in AS3, and i am using AS2 and CS3.

I have text from an XML file that dynamically loads into a scrollpane.
The text appears in the scroll pane, and scrolls just fine --- but it doesn't show the full length of the dynamic XML text.
How can I make the length of a dynamic text area VARIABLE --- so that it expands to fill the length of the XML document?

i have a problem with my flash menu. It's simple menu that contains one MC at start that works as button, u can edit size of the menu from external .txt file by changing the value of menu length. All that works fine , my problem is that every new duplicated mc contains dynamic text area as a label. Labels are also loaded from that .txt file , but that works only for the 1st mc because the newly created text areas in mc's dont have Instance Name set. How can i assign them from as?

1) I can't figure out how to have URL links in the text that loads.
2) How can I make the scroller refresh to allow for new text in the dynamic text area. The content changes alright, but the scroller stays in the same position and if it wasn't needed initially, the scroller disappears and doesn't return on new text.

View 1 RepliesI have 20 squares, each one has a different number(1, 2, 3, etc.) The number is in a dynamic text box which is centered above the square( the square is a Sprite object called "MySquare".) I would like to make the squares drag and droppable. When I test the movie, the arrow cursor becomes a vertical line when over the number. I can click on the edge of the square but then the cursor automatically goes to the center and the compiler returns the error: property StopDrag not found on flash.text.textField.

I am trying to display an HTML formated file in the text Area.It should be straightforward task using the following code:

View 1 RepliesI am very new to AS3. I am creating on flash website where in one section i have few tabs, and a print button. When any user click on the print button form any sub tab, it has to print all the tabs content.
Now i am able to add multiple pages and able to print all the tabs. But when any of those tabs having more content then the print page height it is not flowing to the next page. It is cutting off.how to split the text according to the display height. so that i can store that in another page.[code]...
How do you change the html scrollbar (the one that you see in the far right of your browser) with your own images? I know it's possible because i've seen it before.
P.S.: I am aware of and I know how to change the color of the scrollbar. That is not what's expected. Also i think it's made possible by Javascript.
I have a dynamic text box. It has x, y width, and height all set. I have scrollbars built for it. They work great. Now, I just need those scrollbars to be conditional. And it's not so obvious to me how to do that. If I have a fixed height already set, I can't just say if the height is greater than this. If I set the autoSize then it goes with the autosize regardless of what I do.

The following script does not generates compiler errors, each function seems to be executed yet the file is not displayed. When trying the same code with myCV.txt and myCV_TA.text = (loader1.data) the text file is displayed OK. Flash MX and actionscript 2.0 had handled that differently but with success?

I just got the trial of Flash Cs5 and haven't used Flash since MX back in 04-06. Having an issue with buttons now in context of a scrolling text area. My code is set up as such:

Where up is the button to scroll upwards and down is...(you guessed it). Maintext is the movieclip in which my text is which each frame being the text "scrolled" further. My issue IS: This was working just fine UNTIL I added "Over", "Down", and "Hit" frames into my buttons (whereas previously they were just single frame arrows), and then when previewing my flash the cursor doesn't even recognize the buttons as such, and nothing happens if you click on either... If I got back and delete the over, down, and hit frames, BOOM, problem goes away. This seems very strange to me, I never had a problem like this in MX.
I published a Flash file with the html wrapper.

All good but there are no scroll bars on the browser when I make the browser window smaller? Search took me to this thread- http: [url]....The solution there is "find the parameter in your CSS that states "overflow: auto" or "overflow: hidden" and change it to "overflow: scroll".I did that and now I see a white scroll track in the browser but no actual scroll bar? I would like to first add the xml to my flash. Fine I can do this.But I have a number of buttons, where when I click say CW1, i get the information from the XML file with a node of CW1. I have all the xml set up fine.As I have about eight different postcode types.
ST, CW, CH, TF, WV, WS, DE, SK, SY, and each of these may have numbers that follow, i.e ST1, ST2, ST3 and so forth.
So I can only assume that the postal area could be the main nodes, and the numbers inside the child nodes, am I right thus far.o how can i load the area of the xml file into my text area on mouse click, pulling the information relating.
I just want to do not allow editing at some area of text area in flex. How it can be done?let suppose text length in text area is 50 characters, i want to allow editing if cursor position is less than 15, and if cursor position in text area is greater than 15 it should not allow user to add more text in text area.If user press any key it should not add any character in text area.[code]

As soon as I embed the numerals within this text field the text lowers within the text field.Double clicking the field then renders the text higher up! It seems that the height it shows when I double click is the height it compiles atThe other strange and annoying thing is that my colleague working on the same project is using the exact same font and same file but this doesnt happen to him and so the font redners out differently when he compiles
View 1 RepliesSo, I have some basic actionscript code. It's a legacy site, so I'm using AS2. The line of code simply does this:
myField.text = "some text"
So, I select the text field on the stage, then ensure the font is embedded. All the glyphs I want are checked, but then when I compile and test, the fonts don't show up when the code is executed. Instead, the textfield is blank! What happened?! Where did the text go?
I should mention that the .swf which I compile is loaded into another parent .swf during runtime. If that parent .swf does not contain embedded fonts, is that why it's broken?
I have some dynamic text I want to change the attributes of. For instance, I would like the first few words of each paragraph to be BOLD and to be a different color. But when I select those words and change it to bold it makes ALL the text in the text box change to BOLD.

These text fields aren't interactive, they're only dynamic to allow scrolling and external links. I need to be able to tab right a couple of times (like you would in a word document) to arrange a handful of lines of text in a tabular format. I want to be able to do this to just a couple of lines in the middle of the body of text, not as a separate table, but the tabs need to behave like regular tabs in that the text will always align correctly.

I have made the field bigger, and also played around with the _height Property but it doesn't make a difference. I have imported the font into the Library. When I embed it the font doesn't cut off but looks very different. And if I change the field to a static field it doesn't cut off either, but the font looks a little different as well.

I am mostly a front end developer and my code guy at work is not Flash savvy. I have been working with Flash for years, but my coding is limited. Wondering if you might have a tutorial on the following, or some knowledge:
Need to play an FLV video or swf that has que points that grab someone's name from a database and puts that in a dynamic text field and at the end of video sends out a code back that tells the server that the video has been complete. My code guy knows PHP MySQL and Javascript if that will help.
I have a dynamic text which is subject of a motion tween. Before the tween starts I assign it a new text value. Now I noticed that at both the first and last keyframe of the tween the text value is reset to its design time value. Is there a way to avoid this, so that it retains the newly assigned value?
View 2 RepliesI have a percentage counter in my preloader which always worked perfectly well in CS3. Now that I've uploaded to CS5 the preloader shows the static text "LOADING" but not the dynamic text with the percentage loaded. I have re-embedded the fonts, get no errors when I publish, and the preloader actually does seem to be working. Why would the dynamic text not show up? I am using Classic Text fields.
