Professional :: Loading A Text File Into A Global Variable?

From all the documentation and examples I can find, it appears that it would be
correct to create a global array variable [outside of any functions] to load image names into, then use these images for a slideshow. I want to make the app dynamic, in that changing the text file gives a new set of images.
The global variable goes null [no values] after the load event listener. Why is that?
Isn't global, well global, and alive for the duration of the SWF?
PARAMS.TXT:
monthNames=January,February,March,April,May,June,July,August,September ,October,November,December&dayNames=Sunday,Monday,Tuesday,Wednesday,Th ursday,Friday,Saturday

The XMLdata doesn't seem to be global when this code is executed and I am not sure why. I want to load the data but it may not be used to later by the user.

figuring out my problem other than my lack of knowledge in action scripting? My issue is I am trying to load a variable from a text file, I am able to load the variable with in the function but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get it out of the function.

i've finally gotten the LoadVars() thing down, but the only problem is IT WON'T LET ME STORE THE DATA IN VARAIBLES! I can't put the data from the .txt file into a _global variable and access it outside of the onLoad() function. Any help? I can't really explain it that good so I have included the files for it. I have a button, and inside the button, i have a dynamic text field that i want to display a global variable in the "over" frame. (when the mouse goes over the button)
Normally, to make a dynamic text field show a global variable, I put the dynamic text box INSIDE a movie clip, and then define the variable in the movie clip.
For example, i would put this into the movie clip containing the dynamic text box:

Inside a button though, it doesn't work! I'll leave an attachment as an example of what I want.

I have a load vars function that looks for a txt file and grabs data from it, right now they have to be in the same dir. I'd like to have the txt in the root of my server and then be able to link from any dir in the site. I have:
("dataValues.txt")
What should I add before it, I thought maybe a full URL, but no, is it something like ("../dataValues.txt"), basically I want to make the link global for the site - I don't have access to the files right now.

I downloaded a flash template that includes a text file that it uses to load the content. So, I opened the text file and started to make changes to certain text and when I view the changes I noticed that certain letters and characters are not being displayed such as the letter w and the question mark ? and other letetrs.here is an example of the text I included in the text file:

i created an input text box that puts the users input into a global variable, but when i test it it gives me not only what i have typed in but all the html formatting for the font that my input text box has on it.I only want the text that i have typed in to go into the variable but the wackload of html is going in there too. ive tried a few different things, rewriting my code, recreating the text box, changing settings, dont know what im missing.

I have 2 movie clips, one being loaded into a container MC via "loadMovie();"In the main movie there is a variable with no value, in the external movie there are 5 frames, each with a value to update the variable in the main movie.
IE: if on frame 1, global value = 1 / if on frame 2, global value = 2 / etc etc I'm familiar with passing variables INTO an external swf, but am stumped on how to do it the reverse way.

I have a class that loads data from a text file and puts it into an array called tdv.importedTxtArray (public var).In a separate class i have written [code]The infoArray does not then contain the imported text however because tdv.importedTxtArray is not given its popper contents until about 1/2 a second after the tdvLoader class executes (i.e: when Event.COMPLETE is run and the array is populated with strings from the external text file). Subsequently in the code above infoArray is set to a blank array.How can i get the code in my separate class to ''wait' until tdv.importedTxtArray is properly populated before accessing it.

I have a problem with SharedObject. I created SharedObject using AS2.0 it's working fine.... my question is can it possible to store the variable values in an .txt file where the flash file is saved... basically the SharedObject will store the vallues in localdrive with file extention. not only using SharedObject if any other way to store the vaules in .txt file will be helpfull for me... my requirement is to store the the position of the swf file and when the time it reopen, it should start from previous position.

I have a task to upgrade a web site. I have a map of ND with some cities on it. I needed to add a new city to the SWF which did not seem to be hard (asuming I did it correct). The action on all the buttons for each city look like this except the name after the # is the city selected.

I have a test field that I've created dynamically. If I add text to it by writing: myField.text = "some text" the text appears, but if I add text using a variable I don't see anything. If I trace the text field's text trace("text = " myField.text) I get the right value.

AS3 says you need to load variables into a class?my variables look like this... (the whole point of playing around with variables was that if I had to make a change I could access one place and change them but now I realse that I can't access or call them outside the movie clip they are in.[code] The Wholesale price. I'm trying to get a value from a function which is a URLLoader COMPLETE event but even with declaring variables outside of the function will not allow me to get the value out. I'm stuck.It seems that the Asynchronous nature of Flash makes it impossible to get a value out: e.g. this works:
