Professional :: Loading From Text File Unable To Display Certain Letters Such As W And ?
Feb 13, 2011
I downloaded a flash template that includes a text file that it uses to load the content. So, I opened the text file and started to make changes to certain text and when I view the changes I noticed that certain letters and characters are not being displayed such as the letter w and the question mark ? and other letetrs.here is an example of the text I included in the text file:

I think that I have properly embedded the Verdana font (see image below). However, in my Flash game, dynamic text fields do not show certain letters, such as X and J. What am I missing?
I am trying to display an HTML formated file in text area component using Action 3.0. The following script does not generates compiler errors, each function seems to be executed yet the file is not displayed. When trying the same code with myCV.txt and myCV_TA.text = (loader1.data) the text file is displayed OK. Flash MX and actionscript 2.0 had handled that differently but with success?
----------------------------------------------------- var loader1:URLLoader =new URLLoader();loader1.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE,displayText); textload("myCV.html");//--------------------- function textload(file:String){ loader1.load(new URLRequest(file));trace("in textload");} function displayText(e:Event){ myCV_TA.htmlText = (loader1.data);trace("in displaytext");} //-----------------------------
I'm trying to pull in dynamic text from a txt file and display in a web page. The text works great when I view the .swf, but when I place the .swf in a web page the text no longer appears. I'm using loadVariables("text.txt", ""); in my ActionScript and text.txt is located in the same directory. I have embedded the fonts and I'm using Flash CS5 and I have selected Classic Text/Dynamic Text.
I would like to discus that i am facing some problem to displaying text which is coming from xml. I have made an xml photo gallery.There are some albums.The thing is that i want to display image caption at the right bottom of the big image. i used script for that but don't know the reaseon why it is not showing.i have used trace to display whether the text is comming or not.but there is no problem it is showing the right caption for the images.and i made the dynamic text selectable and after run the novie if i select the text then only it is visible [URL]...
I'm a total rookie working with flash and i'm wondering if theres a way to call in text from an external file. I'm building a news feed on my companies home page, and I'd like to be able to have my boss edit it easily 'cause he doesn't know how to use flash.
From all the documentation and examples I can find, it appears that it would be correct to create a global array variable [outside of any functions] to load image names into, then use these images for a slideshow. I want to make the app dynamic, in that changing the text file gives a new set of images.
The global variable goes null [no values] after the load event listener. Why is that?
Isn't global, well global, and alive for the duration of the SWF?
For some reason I am unable to create a FLV file from a MP4 file with high bitrate. I even created a custom setting and specified bitrate as 2500 but the output file is always around 775.
I am trying to modify a .fla file with flash cs3.When open it, the file does not play or look like it should.All I need to do is change the links within the file (which I did easily) but still the file doesnt look right.I got a developer friend to also try it and he had the same problem.This is the site on a testing urlAnd this is a link to the actual .fla file that can be downloaded:Is it perhaps because the file was made in a program other than flash?
in my timeline i have two orbs transforming into arrows. it works, i watch it, then i'm like, ok, all good time to save. i save. exit/open, and come to find that my orbs were not transforming. i looked on the timeline and they are not set to transform, so i redid the shape tween, save,exit open and the same thing. so why won't my file save the shape tweens? i'm previewing it in cs5.
--edit--for some reason it works in the swf file, but not the fla file.
I'm found the site with the monkey on the the flash thing and all it shows is a name, email and something else and I used it and it works by including a txt file and displaying text from that file as putting down this information
name.text = this.name;
and I can't find the site anymore to get help.I want to know how to include a PHP script that shows this information like this
text=something I need&username=My Name&email=something@website.com
I want to show this stuff on the flash but every time I execute by using it as localhost/test.php, it will show a syntax error.
I've been unable to send data to a text file. I am making a news poster for a website, but free or any XML, php MySQL or anything else; so is it possible to send data to a .txt file using no other files? is it getLocals or something?
I'm loading a external text file to flash and according to the number present in the text file i'm trying to do a IF - ELSE command. It's not working coz the value I load from the external file is string. How can i get this as intiger.
This code works perfect when testing, and it works perfect viewing the SWF, but when you view the HTML file with the SWF embedded, it doesn't display the text file content.
I have a dynamic textfield being populated with an xml files' content. I then have a css stylesheet loaded into format the text. This all works great, but what doesn't work is the ability to bold some of the words in that text. I have both the regular and bold versions of the font embedded into the swf, I can test out just a bold block of text and it works fine. The css is also working as it will change the size of the text that I tell it to. Everything is working, but for some reason I am not able to get the bolder version of the font to display in the same text box as the regular one. I have also tried to change fonts but had the same outcome.
I am in the middle of creating a website using Flash CS5. I opened up my .Fla file one day to continue my work but I am no unable to access buttons and movie clips. When creating movie clips or buttons I am unable to get inside them, when I hover my mouse over them there is a white hand icon which never used to be there it was always just a normal mouse icon. I double click to enter inside the buttons/movie clips but nothing happens. This happens to existing movie clips and buttons on the page and even when I create new ones. I really don't wanna have to start this website again.
I work with Flash Pro allmost 11 hours per day and every while i get a error which messes up everything. Approximetly i get this after about 2-3 hours withevery project.After i get this error there is no chance to test movies afterwards.I see a fast flash of the loader window but it dissapears so fast i cant even really see if it is loader.
im using the version 8 of flash Pro. I have this script for my preloader bar which works fine. How i can add a text field/box so it can display the % percentage loaded?
I have a preloader in my file.At the end of the preloader completion event, i am loading 12 swf files from outside using individual loader. Now problem is, i need to display loading percentage in text for preloader. But, the percentage shoud cover all swf loding also. it mean, from preloader, starts, it has to start from 1 and end of the 12th swf loader completetion,it should display 100%.
I have a main movie that contains some combo boxes. Some of them may be disabled.By pressing a button I load another movie using loadMovie. The loaded movie also contains combo boxes.When the button is pressed, the clip that shows the combo boxes is removed from the stage and the loaded movie is displayed. By pressing another button, the loaded movie is unloaded and the clip with the combo boxes is displayed again.Well, once the other movie has been loaded, when I go back to the clip with combo boxes, the disabled combo boxes have a small gray button covering the black down arrow.I have determined that so long as the loaded movie contains combo box in the library, the problem occurrs, even if there is no actual instance of it.The combo boxes that are not disabled are not affected. The combo boxes are disabled by setting "cb_name.enabled=false".If the combo box is enabled, it displays correctly, but if disabled again, it goes wrong again.My project is targeting Flash 8, so it uses AS2.I'm using Flash CS4.
Are there any software that will convert Word documents or pdf into swf files that ca be displayed inside of a Flash movie. Currently, I am using FlashPaper but the software is not supported anymore by Adobe. I am creating eLearning courses and having a pdf open inside of a course without opening multiple makes for a better learning experience.
I'm trying to find a way to add to the front and back of a word in a string based on the letters it starts with.
For example if I had a string "I think http://www.facebook.com/ is better than http://twitter.com" it would look for the instance of "http://" and give me "I think <b>http://www.facebook.com/</b> is better than <b>http://twitter.com</b>"
I'm starting using the CS4 version of flash, and in my codes, every word is "missing" the last letter. It's not really missing, we just can't see it, or see only half of it. Did it ever happen to you? If so, how can I fix this?
I have multiple movieclips (they all have instance names) and i want to display a text loaded from a xml file. I have loaded the xml file and it work fine but instead of trace the code i want to "eco" display it into my flash file when i click on a movieclip. Here's what i have done until now.
