IDE :: Add To Text Based On First Letters?

Jan 17, 2010

I'm trying to find a way to add to the front and back of a word in a string based on the letters it starts with.

For example if I had a string "I think http://www.facebook.com/ is better than http://twitter.com" it would look for the instance of "http://" and give me "I think <b>http://www.facebook.com/</b> is better than <b>http://twitter.com</b>"

ActionScript 2.0 :: Playing Specific Sound Files Based On Letters In User Entered Word?

Nov 19, 2006

I was thinking that it may be possible to create a primitive, yet usable actionscript based text to speech system for Flash movies (One that is platform independent).

Is it possible to right a series of actionscript commands that would play a collection of certain sound files based on what word or words the user has entered?

For example:

If the user types "Red Pen"

Can actionscript tear apart those two words and play sound files "Arr", "ee", "Dee", "Pee", "ee" and "EN"?

If it is possible, and if someone could help me out on it, then I'll start figuring out what phonetic sounds I'll need to record and program, and see if I can't build a simple text to speech program for flash movies.I have no immediate commercial application for it, and I don't plan on one.So if I can pull it off it'll be free to everyone, source code and all. Of course, it may be in my voice, but it shouldn't be hard to take what I plan to do and use it as a template for anyone else's voice recordings.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Foreign Letters In A Dynamic Text Box?

Feb 25, 2010

I have an app that generates text from the user's input (dynamic text box).The user is allowed to use Danish letters like '' (the 'a' with the ring above / å). My problem is that the top of the ring above the 'a' is cut off by the upper part of the text box. So, I want the text in the dynamic text box to move down a little. But as we all know, dynamic text cannot be vertically aligned in the properties of the text box. So, what to do?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Missing Letters In Dynamic Text Box?

I have just been upgraded from some previous version of flash to CS5. I have dynamic text fields that now do not show certain letters. For example "OK" shows up as "O" but "Ok" work. "SUPPLE" appears as "SPPLE". Some numbers fail to show up as well. When I trace the value of the text box all looks OK.

Flash CS5 :: Dynamic Text Field Strips Out Certain Letters

May 3, 2011

Using CS5, and certain letters simply won't show up in my dynamic text field. Not even a blank shows up, they just get stripped out. 'g' and 'v' are two of the letters, so the string 'v testing' shows up on the stage as 'testin'.

It doesn't seem to matter if I start with the string already in there, or add it dynamically. Here are the settings, but they don't really seem to matter either, I've experimented:

Classic Text
Dynamic Text
Ariel
Regular
Anti-alias for animation
Single line

ActionScript 2.0 :: AI Pathfinding For Text-Based Game?

Everything is turn-based, so the NPC would have the capability to move from one room to another adjacent room in one turn. Keep in mind that there would be no physical manifestation of the code, other than some text that would be displayed when the NPC enters the same room as the player.And as an added aspect if possible I would like the ability to stop NPCs from entering the same room as the player once they've reached it if the room/door/entrance is locked.So the end result would be something like this...

-------[E]
[P][ ][ ][ ][ ]

--------[ ]
[P][ ][ ][E][ ][code]..........

Only difference is that there would be no graphical representation.

ActionScript 2.0 :: CS3 Jumping To Frame Based On The Value In A Text Box?

Feb 23, 2011

I have a maths-based movie on which a number of points are allocated depending on the answers given to a series of multiple choice questions.

At the end of it, a person will score somewhere between 1 and 10 points depending on the answers they gave.

I have got to the stage where the system keeps track of the cumulative score, and at the conclusion, I have a text field on stage, which has an instance name of "results". When the person enters the frame, the results field displays the total number of points scored.

That is ok, but what I actually would like to happen is that the movie jumps to a different frame based on that figure, so that if they score 2, it would take them to the frame labelled "two" and if they score 9, it takes them to frame "nine"

Is there a way of effectively saying:

On frame enter
if results.text = 1 go to "one";
if results.text = 2 go to "two"
etc etc

I'm guessing that I need to use the:

_root.onEnterFrame = function(){
};

how to describe the bit in the middle...?

Flex :: Extract Text Based On Character?

Mar 4, 2010

I'm using an auto complete component and a labelFunction so that user have the ability to search by their name or id. Once the search is completed I'd like to extract the data to a query.

The only problem is that I only need the name or id for the query not both, so I'd like to pull from just the id variable...

Currently if the user types - Joe or if they type - 13

Both would return a result of Joe - 13 via the auto complete component.

I'm using a dash - To separate the results visually. So I'd like to know if theres a way to extract text from a text field up to a certain character in this case a dash.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Flash To PHP Web Based Text Editor?

Jan 14, 2011

i got a working flash text editor. It loads up a text file from a database and displays it in a dynamic textbox and allows you to edit it however you want and save it by sending variables to a php script which than saves the changes to the text file. It works great and when i download the tect file from the database it displays what i/anyone has saved. Only issue is when i refresh the page the text box is displaying what the text file used to say. i checked the database and thats not what the text file contains. =/ I have NO idea what would be causing this, as it loads the text file directly when the page is refreshed so it SHOULD display what the text files most recent contents are. any ideas? test it out at Simmpole(dot)com/flips/testtextsaver/tophp.swf

edit : i also tried making a button that forced flash to reload the text file and no luck.i also tried throwing the code that loads the text file in a ENTER_FRAME event and still no luck.

CS3 Dynamic Text - Change Colors Based On Data

Aug 25, 2009

I'm building a project for a gaming website and i have an interesting dilemma. How do i make the font color change based on the data loaded from the external .txt file.

Example:

In text files i could have... yes yes yes no no maybe yes no. If the text says yes i would like for the font to change to green, if no to red, or maybe to orange/yellowish.

So basically if i went in and changed the No to a Yes on a .txt file, the next time i viewed that flash section the yes text would be in green instead of the default set by the flash core itself.

I hope i am making sense. I don't even know how to go about starting and i stared at the actionscript list for awhile to no avail.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Text Based Action Adventure Game?

Nov 3, 2011

I'm currently working on an action adventure game and have run into some issues. I am using flash CS4 and AS3. On the stage I have created a user input text field with the instance name of textbox and a button with the instance name of btn. I'm trying to set it up so that when the user types in a word that word is cross referenced with an array and a function is run. I have noticed that some times the functions are not run in the order there typed. For example if I type "enterdoor. lookaround." Than the following is traced.

" you have entered the door.
.
you are looking around, but don't see anything.
. "

Which is good but if I reverse the order and type "lookaround. enterdoor." then I receive the following.

"you are looking around, but don't see anything.
.
.
you have entered the door. "

Also if I were to type "gobacklookaroundenterdoor" then the following is displayed.

"go back you have entered the door. you are looking around, but don't see anything."

Notice that the function "enterdoor" is run before "lookaround" even thou "lookaround" was typed first. Also if I were to type "enterdoorlookaround enterdoorlookaround" then the following is displayed.

"you have entered the door.
you are looking around, but don't see anything.
you are looking around, but don't see anything.
you have entered the door. "

I cant seem to figure out why the functions are not run in the order they are typed by the user. Not sure if this helps but I have determined that if a function is typed 3 times or more then it only returns the function twice. For instance if I were to input "enterdoorenterdoorenterdoor" then the following is displayed.

"you have entered the door.
you have entered the door. "

I would also like for the user to have the option of typing a function as many times in a row as needed. It seems to me that I'm missing some thing simple. I was thinking if I change the commands "array" to an "associative array" it might process the functions in the correct order. It seems to me that the commands array is being compared to the inputholder array.

this.stop();
import flash.events.*;
btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,textChanged)

[code]....
