I want to load an external swf called 'signs.swf' into an empty mc called 'signholder'.

Everything works. Cool. But, I now want to target something within the signs.swf. How do I do it though? What is the path? Do I have to give the child of signholder an instance name? Everything I try fails.
If I wanted the root timeline of the external swf to gotoAndPlay(2) for example,...would i say...
signholder.loadit2.gotoAndPlay(2) ???

I made a simple website with a flash menu, that opens internal links in an iframe. However, I have a few other (not included in the menu) external links, which open in the same iframe. And after I click on one of them and it loads in the iframe, the buttons on the menu stop working. I'm beginning to think it has something to do with the internet explorer, since it works on some computers. But I'm not sure... not very good at this.

i am trying to communicate from javascript to AS3 by using External Interfaces, now the problem is that the function i am trying to call works fine with Internet Explorer 8, but it doesn't works with firefox 3.5.9 or google chrome, below is the html / javascript code.

I'm working on a Flash project (which will eventually be published as an .exe - not sure if that makes any difference) which has buttons which need to open up external files.The external file will vary in type (there will be at least one button each for .pdf, .exe and .swf).I've managed to get this from various online help things:

I've tested it with about 5 different file types and it only seems to work if the url String begins with "http://". Even local htm/ html files don't open.
i have Movie A playing. When you click PlayStep button, I want to open another window that has Movie B in it. When Movie B is done, I want to go back to where I came from (Movie A). Nothing that I have tried has worked -- like _blank or importing ExternalInterface.

I need to load in an external HTML webpage on the stage of one of my .SWF files. Currently I have a primary .SWF pulling from a .XML database that has a list of other .SWF files it will import and display every time you "flip" a page as this site is being designed like a book. I have a .swf working that will pull and display an external HTML page but when i try to embed that .swf into the parent book.swf (Book.swf --> book.xml --> html.swf) it doesnt work. Likely the code i am using doesnt display the HTML if testing the .swf on a local server but the moment you place it on a webserver and call it through a web browser it works.
I don not need anything special, just something that will display the HTML page in a static box that i will set with a fixed size and a scroll bar.

I have a swf called main.swf that is loading an external swf called main-intro.swf.main-intro.swf has a clip that fades up and then I have a stop action 24 frames in. The problem is is that I get a null object reference error (1009) when calling the external swf. If I remove the stop action then it works, if I rename the external swf to intro-main.swf it works with the (stop action).It seems it just doesn't want to run the external swf's actions when it's called main-intro.sql
View 2 RepliesI have a movie that calls other movie clips with a preload and fade for each external mc called. but after you call and load the swf in the container it disappears aftre about 30 seconds it disappears if you dont do anything and then it comes back after about 30 seconds. I am using this script for the preload object and fade.

Also I dont know if this has anything to do with this problem but when I load an external swf it does not show any actions i have in there or any text but does show images and shapes but not dynamic text boxes or fades or anything like that. I have listed the link to the main movie swf and the map1.swf that it calls when you click on floor plan so you can see when you view the map1.swf by itself there is more stuff that does not show up when loaded into the main swf. Can I import files from other apps into my app? If I for instance on iOS, I email myself a xml-file, I click the attachment in the mail-app. Now I want the "open in" option to show up, send that file to my app, and process that data there. Is this possible in flex/as3?

Currently, I let user type in the xml url in a textfield and load it straight from that but that's un-intuitive. So I need a way to open the window/explorer that allows user to navigate to a file that he wants to save to or load from on the local hard drive just like all other software.

I have one swf called main.swf which has a container movieclip that gets external swf's loaded into it.
my external swf is called hosting and it calls an array of data that is loaded into a movieclip that is duplicate for each element from the database. The elements from the database are as follows:
Business
Economy
Power
Standard
Each one of these has a button over it that when press loads information from the database into a movieclip that contains a textbox. My button code is: _root.movieclip.loadVariables("url to database");
This works flawlessly when I run the hosting.swf by itself, but when it is loaded into the contianer in the main.swf the buttons dont work. I believe that it is the _root in the button call that is causing this but I dont know how to fix it. I think the _root variable changes when hosting is loaded into the main.swf.
I made several applications in Flash and I would like to present them from one main application. In basic terms, I want a window with buttons linking to each project. Click on Button A for example, which opens Project A in a separate window. All of my projects are Mac or PC projectors.

I'm trying to avoid doing the whole thing in Flash, so the home page is a CSS/HTML header page that will house a looping flash piece underneath the header, and the inner portfolio will be flash pieces brought into the same CSS header framework.I'd like to know what kind of code I need to use in the portolio flash navigation so that the "home" link will open the CSS/HTML home page in its same window, rather than launching another window. Is this something that can be done using AS3, or do I need javascrpt as well?
