but I need to switch the text boxes over to TLFText because we are going multi-language, and this function no longer works, I have no idea how to do the same thing with TLFText?

I am looking at the SimpleButton entirely wrong. Here's what I'm doing (inside of a MovieClip):

the close_btn.width and height remain 0. Am I supposed to just rely on the DisplayObject members of the SimpleButton completely and ignore width/height/x/y or what?

I am creating a nav in flex that pulls in buttons dynamically from xml. THe problem i am having is setting the button width to the text width. currently the buttons are all the same width and if the text is larger then it just cuts off. Is there a way I can stop a single word splitting over two lines when putting dynamic text into a fixed width, multiline text field?I have a simple method of checking if there are more lines than words and then running a while loop to reduce the font size until there are the same amount or less lines than words. But this doesnt always work, if say the final word of three is quite short and the second word splits over two lines then I still have 3 words and 3 lines.

For example, I set the width and height to 800, the results I get for width and height are 799.4, 799.0 respectively. I'm not understanding why my element's width and height aren't exactly what I typed in?Btw, I can go into the "size and position" property UI and set them to 800 x 800 and those values stick. I have a menu bar which is made by looping through an array of the menu options (and submenus) and then attaching a menuitem movieclip in each case (then setting the text). The menuitem movieclip contains a dynamic text field and also actionscript to draw the background depending on the current settings (colour, border etc).
I have a variable in my root fla file called menuwidth and this is used within the menuitem movieclip to define the width of the menuitem. When i set this to one value it works absolutely fine and creates the menus accordingly. i can change this to whatever size i want (including calculating the size of the largest option and then setting it to that, to ensure all options fit). This works great.I have been trying to code it so that the menu options can be different sizes (in the event of a horizontal menu) so that you can have one that is wider than another. The code has become quite long (due to submenu and other functionality) but in a nutshell it is:

I am working in a table where I have set the height in px but the width 100%.
I would like the slideshow component to work at 100% screen width but cant work out if this is even possible.
I am trying to increase a swf file height and width so it can fit better in my screen. I don't want to rework on everything again in my fla file because it's big hassle. (changing background size makes every symbol off). Are there anyway to do it?

The problem is that the captions underneath the images are in a fixed width text box. They look fine underneath horizontal images, but I want to have the text shift in when a vertical image is loaded, and is narrower.

View 1 RepliesI need to access and stream flash video stored on a US server. I do so from one of three PCs - all running Windows 7, all with same updates and same version of Flash. Two of them show a given video fine. The third runs the same video but it is clearly truncated on the right and bottom - that is, only part (top left two thirds?) of the video is visible. And two show timecode and the third...doesn't (or its hidden by the truncation). But how can this be? And more importantly, what can I do to make the third PC play streaming video correctly?

I've got these dynamic text fields that have their autosize and multiline set to true. I assign a width when I create the textfields, but that doesn't seem to have an effect. Using an interval, i cycle through an array that provides strings to populate the text fields.
The textfields seem to take the width of the first strings that populate them, and then stay that size, regardless of the amount of text in each new string.[code]...
how do i find out the width of a text box and set a variable with that value?
