Lately, I've been getting an "Unexpected file format" error when tring to open a CS3 fla file that I've been working with for a couple of years. I've edited the file with the exact same app before.
View 3 RepliesI have been working on a project for a week and suddenly it crashed during save (nothing strange had been imported or anything i just saved after moving content around) and now i cant open my file again. I contacted adobe support who claim that since the problem is related to the file this is not their problem, what a load of HORSE ****, who should i contact about this dell if its an FLA FILE!? I have already renamed the file to flash.zip then opened with WinRar and repaired as a new zip file to a different folder (which removes the corrupt content which is document something.xml) then i tried renaming this folder back to flash.fla however the file still does not open.

View 1 RepliesI'm suddenly getting an "Unexpected file format" error on virtually every Flash CS4 file that I try to open. These are files that I created and I'm trying to open tham on the same computer on which they were created. The only thing that I can think of that has changed is that I installed some new fonts, so I deleted those, but that hasn't helped.I've tried retrieving files that I had backed up to a server, and those give me the same error. The only files that I AM able to open are 1) a test file that I created in CS4, saved, closed and reopened, and 2) files that had been created in CS3.
View 1 RepliesToday I was working on a project in Flash, I restarted my computer because when I was pasting sth. It was pasting "Hello!". After the restart, I opened Flash, It said that the "Essentials xml" couldn't be opened. So it said to go to Window>Essentials reset. I did and I was able to edit again. But before doing that, I tried to open that project, and it Said that it couldn't be found. I opened it manually but still the same. Then I closed Flash and opened it again. And when I opened the project I got : "Unexpected file format".

View 1 RepliesI was recently working on a project in Flash CS5.5 for school, last thing i did was save the project and close the program. Next time I try to open it I get an error saying "Unexpected File Format", and the application closes itself out. I can open Flash by itself and work on anything else, but when I try to open my class project it repeats the same thing "Unexpected File Format" and closes. The file was originally started IN Flash CS5.5, and has not moved to any other program since then.

View 3 RepliesI'm working as a freelancer in a flash project. The project includes a list of as2 files which I need to edit and debug. I was going to do that using flash cs3 but every time I try to open an as2 file I get an "Unexpected file format" error message. The files are strictly text and (not binary), but it seems flash cs3 won't open files with a '.as2' extension (e.g.scriptfile1.as2). If I rename the file so it holds the .as extension (e.g. scriptfile1.as) then cs3 opens it fine. Unfortunately I cannot rename these files since I'm not the owner of the project, I merely make some modifications.

When I try to open them, I get the error message "Unexpected file format," and Flash CS4 crashes! It have checked for updates online, but no luck. Most people who mention this problem are trying to open a FLA made with a newer version, using an older version.

I don't work much with flash and when I do there is no reason to look at any sort of source.I received a file from someone to add to a project and the instructions were to open the .fla in CS5 and edit certain lines to pioint to directories . The file is and interactive app type.I have tried doing this but I am at a loss. I had thought that I would just be able to view some source in the file and edit those lines and export the ,swf, but I can see nothing like that.
View 3 RepliesI'm trying to edit a .fla file. It's actually a flash game, a dating sim game to be specific. Now, the game has dialogues where you have to press a "next button" so that the next dialogue will appear, but I've noticed that all the dialogues are gone, they're not appearing at all. It's just a blank space. At the same time, the game has dynamic texts like money, energy and name of the player but likewise it's just an empty space. I've noticed that when I exported the game as swf. The text appears but it's distorted. For example the dialogue "Where am I" would appear as "a aa ii". I've also noticed that when I opened the .fla, it says that there are fonts missing.. I dont know if that has something to do with this..
View 3 RepliesI'm using an open-source Flash mp3 player. In comes in two swf versions. One plays a list of songs and displays the album cover(s). The other version just plays one song. The problem is that the single-song version loads some default text that I want to change (I was able to do this in the other version via the external playlist file). I'm a Flash newbie, and when I open the fla file the player's author provides, I can't find where this default text is located. (The playlist version works fine; its default text relates to what the user will get when they click on the file titles.)

View 2 RepliesI'm building a site that was bought from a template house that has a flash piece in the header. I have Win CS4 and have been able to swap out the images and replace the text but I am having a hard time finding where I can edit where/how the text aligns/ends up. Originally there was text of varying lengths that slides in below each image aligning right to the play/stop button. I tried to get them to give me text of a similar length but they just want the phone number. So now the phone number slides in but because the original text was longer (except for the one that had a ph#) they stop at different locations where the original 1st character came allowing to align right.
So my question is how/where do I edit this action? Would this be [in] the ActionScript? I am a complete noob and have only gotten to where I am through trial and error. I was able to find and replace the text in Essentials workspace and I was able to swap images (update) by right clicking them in the library view and I see a text export in there too that I have a high suspicion is what I need to edit but don't know how to access it.
Is there a way to know how many times a library item is being used in your Flash file?
View 6 RepliesI'm edit a flash file that uses about 11 different fonts. When I toss it into the editor and publish it some characters are missing from the product, such as W's and M's. I've installed the fonts that were included with the flash file into windows7.

So anyway, I usually build flash websites the traditional way using timeline animation and scripting. Today I had a job interview and they said they're looking for someone who can develop any web design into a Flash CMS with a back-end office for the client to edit the content without having to edit the FLA file or any code.
Accordingly, I'd like to know where and how to start. What are the main concepts I should follow/adapt?
I'm going to create a iOS app in flash and convert. I'm thinking I may want to load graphic assets at runtime. I'd like these assets to be vector graphics so they can be resized easily with no quality degradation. I usually use SWF files ofr this purpose. Unless I'm wrong, a converted iOS app probably does not load SWF files. So I'm wondering what kind of vector graphics file format can iOS load at runtime?
View 1 RepliesI am in the middle of creating a website using Flash CS5. I opened up my .Fla file one day to continue my work but I am no unable to access buttons and movie clips. When creating movie clips or buttons I am unable to get inside them, when I hover my mouse over them there is a white hand icon which never used to be there it was always just a normal mouse icon. I double click to enter inside the buttons/movie clips but nothing happens. This happens to existing movie clips and buttons on the page and even when I create new ones. I really don't wanna have to start this website again.
