Professional :: Button Within Flash Movie To Use Javascript Function Outside Movie?
Jun 8, 2010
I have a Flash banner that needs to execute a Javascript function outside the movie. This is required to occur on a click of a Flash Button. How would the best way to get this done be? What reading could I start with?
I have a swf streaming an flv with the default controls from Flash. Is there a way to call a javascript function when the pause button is clicked? And then another when the play button is clicked?
Basically I'm trying to call a javascript function which fades in the page content at the end of the flash movie. My javascript is all fine, I've even tested it by placing a button on the page from which it works flawlessly. So I know its definitely my Actionscript which is wrong.
So I'm trying to call a javascript function from the actionscript when the swf movie enters a certain frame. I've placed the following code on a frame in my movie, but nothing, nada, niet.
I've searched all over the net and have come across a few examples but being new to Actionscript, I'm finding it quite hard to get my head around this (albeit simple) problem. Basically I'm trying to call a javascript function which fades in the page content at the end of the flash movie. I need to create a splash page type thing. It needs to play a flash movie and then when that movie has finished show a full screen image using html/js. THe movie will be flash and the image display will be javascript powered.
I want to display a Flash video in a popup window, and when the video has finished playing, close the window using a javascript function "closeIt":
<script> function closeIt() { alert("About to close...");
[code]....
How can I achieve this? I have imported a video into Flash (choosing "load external video with playback component"). This is in frame1. I thought that in the second frame I could make a call to ExternalInterface.call("closeIt") in the Actions window. I have tried this, but when I publish and view the flash movie in a web brower, I never see the javascript alert.
My boss needs me to create flash button 125px x 125px. And when they click on the button it will open up to the company web page. Here is footage the would like to use for the button:

I have only done static banners using Flash. There is a difference between a Flash banner or button? I am still a novice and need to get this done by Friday.
Why is it that when i have button in a movie clip and that movie clip is a draggable object the button becomes inactive? How can i have both the button and the movie clip draggable and the button continue to function. below is the script i have for the draggable movie clip, which has the button contained within that:
I have made a number of Flash banners and I save them and everything is good but when I open them, some of the movie clips have reverted to a previous state. So I need to resize and redo thsoe movieclips. I make one banner and then save as new file and resize it. It is really annoying.. I am on P.C. and have all the current updates installed.
I'm trying to make a flash website that has clickable buttons that will play different movie clips. But I dont know how to make it to just play the movie clip with the button you click without playing all the movie clips on the main timeline.
I'm trying to call a javascript function from within my swf and I'm having a couple of problems which are confussing me somewhat. I'm using this to call the function from flash: ExternalInterface.call("pgcover"); I know that this is calling the function as I have set it trigger an alert action and this comes up properly. But I don't want the function to trigger an alert, this is just for testing purposes. I instead want it to change the styling on a div. I have set up a test page where I have asigned the function to a button and this works, the div display changes from block to none. When I get the swf to call the function setup to do the same thing, nothing happens.
I have what I think is an easy question but I am having problems with it... Using AS2 / CS3, I am calling a javascript function from Flash, but i would like the value to be a variable and I cant figure out how to do it. the started code is below and I need direction on how to make "myVar" actually a variable.
I'm trying to create a movie clip on my my main timeline that has a movie clip button within it that pops up a box in the middle of the site that contains text and links. On Frame 1 I have the Up state, frame 2 the roll over state, and frame 3 my Down State (where Box appears).

The problem is that on the main time line, the button is clickable but doesnt do anything
I can't get this to work. I need to call a Javascript function from a button in flash. The code is as follows: on (release) { getURL("javascript:nameOfMyFunction('whatever.html ')"); }
This is working, so I got the call right. But what I really want to do is have that url (html) to be a variable within flash. on (release) { Myurl="[URL]"; getURL("javascript:nameOfMyFunction('Myurl')"); } This doesn't work. How do you use a flash variable as a javascript function parameter?
This is a "is it possible question". I have a series of buttons that navigate within this flash file. Although the entire project has a screen movie clip on a seperate layer over top of everything. This screen contains rollover event listeners that change depending on where you move the mouse. Is it possible to have the mouse pass through the first movie clip and control the button underneath as well as the rollover event listener on top?
I have a main timeline and on frame 6 I have a game1_mc to be controlled from the main timeline, that has start drag on it. The cursor changes to a hand but the movieClip won't drag. Could someone tell me how to get this to work? After trying many things, I currently have on a frame on the main timeline:
How do I apply one variable and one function to many movieclips?[code]The reuseFade function works if I target the movieclip by name on the stage,ex: var T1:Tween = new Tween(mc_black1, "alpha", Strong.easeIn, 0, 100, 5, true);using "this" doesn't work.The only way I know how to make this work is creating four functions to handle the event
I was asked to put all my actionscript in only at the main timeline, while I have lots of movie clips that acts as each page in my website. Each of them has buttons that I need to make them work without put the actionscript inside the movie clip but the main timeline.
I tried to use movieclip(parent).menu_btn.function(); which is not working
and now I'm trying to use array as a friend suggested me.
var play_buttons:Array = new Array("menu_btn", "ok_btn", "back3_btn"); stop(); //buttons for menu
[Code]....
the problem is when i clicked play button and it links to the play page,but it has an intro animation for 2-3 seconds before they reach the menu_btn that's why the error come out is that I have a null object since they execute the code b4 it comes to the menu_btn keyframe.
Is there a way to detect end of Flash movie (OOTB, without using some sort of flash callback). Alternatively, is there a way to know the length of the movie? Update: IsPlaying() looked promising (periodically checking it), but as it turns out, nobody is creating straight forward swfs any more; now, the content is embedded in main layer and while the content plays, the main movie is stopped and IsPlaying is always false...
I have a blue oval button. In the button timeline, I created a seperate layer and placed the movie in the roll over frame. When I rollover the button, the movie plays, showing the button coming off the page (3D) with a shadow.
I now want to show the button going back into place when I roll off the button, but I am not sure how to do this in the button timeline?
I am setting up a Flash based MP3 player control (The standalone version of WordPress Standalone Player). I have a situation of multiple windows with players open. One window opens the other, so I have the window.opener property available. When the child window is opened, I want to programmatically mute the audio player in the parent window.
This works in Firefox, but not in IE 7 and 8. I know little about Flash/Javascript interaction and I'm stuck. I am not getting any error messages. To do this, the player SWF object has a setVolume() and close() function. These functions are not defined anywhere in Javascript so I guess that those are provided by the Flash object. This is supported by the following lines I found in the Flash source code of the player:
I have a JavaScript function that loads a flash movie into a webpage div using swfobject.embedSWF(). I want to be able to, alternatively, load a .mov file into the same div, in the event that this is the file found instead of the .swf. Is there a close equivalent to swfobject.embedSWF for the purposes of embedding a .mov file? If not, what is an efficient route to doing this using JavaScript?
