I have a JavaScript function that loads a flash movie into a webpage div using swfobject.embedSWF(). I want to be able to, alternatively, load a .mov file into the same div, in the event that this is the file found instead of the .swf. Is there a close equivalent to swfobject.embedSWF for the purposes of embedding a .mov file? If not, what is an efficient route to doing this using JavaScript?
View 1 RepliesI have a single page web app that shows real time data using just HTML/CSS/JS - I have managed to keep Flash out of it.
Now I want to play a small chime but I don't want to make the site dependent on Flash. It is just a chime to indicate a new chat, so it is not a huge stumbling block but I would like to find a way.
Is this possible - I am guessing no since you need something local to play the sound
Edit: I am not able to use HTML5 quite yet.
I'm having trouble exporting my flash movie to quicktime. I receive the error: The installed version of Quicktime does not support this type of Macromedia Flash movie. Quicktime requires Macromedia Flash version 5 or before. Please select "Version: Flash player 5" in the Flash tab of the Publish Settings dialog. I've tried changing the settings to every Flash versions 1 - 5, none of which seems to resolve the problem. I continue to get the same error message when I try to publish. I'm using Flash 8 and Quicktime version 7.7.5.

View 2 RepliesI have designed a Flash animation for a client who has asked me to also provide it in a format which can be used in a film he wants to produce in Apple Final Cut Pro. I assumed the best format would be QuickTime but whenever I export the Flash file in to QuickTime the quality of the film is awful - the graphics leave fragments of themselves behind as they move (if that makes sense?!) and the overall quality isn't very crisp.
View 2 RepliesI am new to Flash so this may be a basic question, but I have not been able to find anything in the help files or the forums. I have tried several times to change the size of my quicktime movies, from 550 pixels by 400 pixels to 480 pixels by 480 pixels, and I cannot seem to do it. I have used "Modify > Document" and tried every option I could find through this command. Each time I export I double check that the export settings match my desired size, and they do, but when I open the movie in quicktime, it has been stretched to fit 550 x 400 pixels. The preview movie looks exactl how I want, it is only the exported movie that is incorrect. Is it possible to make a quicktime movie of the size I would like, or is that a standard format that cannot be adjusted?
As a workaround, I have tried squeezing my 480x480 content into the 550x400 stage (while scaling it prportionally). but when I do this, the square of content is not centered in the background in quicktime. It is off center in the preview movie as well, and this commonly occurs after I have used "modify > document" to change the size of the document. The side to which it is aligned seems to be inconsistent. Is there a way to realign the video after I have modified the document size? Does changing the document size through "modify > document" affect the centering and alignment of my video? Is there a way to change it back?

I am having this issue with Flash CS5 Mac version:After making an animation, I export movie as Quicktime. When I view this movie, the animation leaves trails of color when an object moves across the screen, leaving behind little bits of color too. This does not happen when I export a SWF, but it does happen when I export a Quicktime movie. I export using Quicktime, so I can then I can export it into a flv in Adone media encorder. Why does this happen?
View 1 RepliesI have a Flash banner that needs to execute a Javascript function outside the movie. This is required to occur on a click of a Flash Button. How would the best way to get this done be? What reading could I start with?
View 1 RepliesWhen I try to export a Quicktime movie from the Export>Export Movie, I get this error message:Error creating Flash movie file.Be sure the destination file is not locked or on a locked drive. Also, check that the file name is not too long.A few things I've tested:
- Saving to different drives - all of which are not locked.
- changing the file name to one single word followed by .mov
- saving the flash file as a new file and trying again
- opening the file on a different machine and exporting
None of these have fixed the problem. Every time I get the same error. I've been able to export swf movies and also JPEG sequences, but I'd much rather be able to export the Quicktime movie since I need to bring this into FCP and the Flash movie has sound in it as well, so with the JPEG sequence I'd have to lay in the audio again.
I have a dozen Flash CS3 documents that I am exporting to Quicktime for placement into Keynote. Some are 1024x768 and others are 1024 x 337. After I exported 1/2 dozen movies or so at the 1024 x 337, I tried to export one at 1024 x 768. Flash decided to squish it down to 1024 x 337. Now all of my movies are being squished to this dimension regardless of the actual dimensions. I have not changed any settings in the export window. This was working properly all week and now it decided to squish the movies.
View 1 RepliesI have been browsing different tutorials on video here at Kirupa but I always stumble on how to control my quicktime movies. I have a project and it involves loading a couple of quicktime movies. My main problem is that I can not preload or buffer the quicktime movie so that it plays continuously. In the editing stage, when I imported my quicktime movie, I chose a controller to forward and backward the movie scenes, but when you publish it, it's not showing. Please point me to the right direction here Here is the link:[URL]
View 4 RepliesI tried to export movie entirely created with Actionscripts to Quicktime, but no luck. Is this possible to do? How?
View 2 RepliesI tried to search for tutorials here at Kirupa but it seems I keep on bumping on a dead end. I have a problem with a video clip I imported to my flash movie. When I am on the editing screen, I can see that there is a TOOL BAR below the movie. But when I publish it, it doesn't show anything at all in the browser. The movie then is not preloaded. And by the way, I placed a preloader at the beginning of the frame but it seems that the movie is not preloaded so it jitters as it plays frame by frame. [URL]
View 1 RepliesI have various movie clips that play when a button is clicked. My first movie clip (instance name is "MCABOUT") which plays on the press of the button called "about". I have another movie clip (instance name is "MCPORTFOLIO") which plays when another button called "portfolio" is pressed. I have a stop() applied within each movie clip so that they stop playing once they reach their end frames. My question is: How do I get the "ABOUT" movie clip to disappear from the stage when I click the button for "PORTFOLIO" and how do I apply this to make any additional movie clips disappear from the stage once another button is clicked so that the movie clip attached to that button plays (in other words, whatever movie clip is presently on the stage disappears)?
View 2 RepliesI am trying to do something that seems like it should be relatively easy. Well bang goes that theory. Here is what I am trying to do. I have the path to a group of images stored in an xml file. I want to load them to a movie clip on the stage. doing this directly by reading the xml file and using loadMovie("filename"); bsaically does what I want it to do with just a few problems, 1. the movie repeats so the same image is pulled from the server multiple times sucking up bandwidth. 2. On slow connections the images can sometimes load slow making the movie not display properly. What I would like to do is load all the images into some structure and add the images to the movieclip in the time line when needed. How does one accomplish this in action script 2.0?
In a perfect world, I would just load all the images to an array and load the array element to the movieclip on the stage.
I want to use a movie in a Flash website, but only have a YouTube link
Is it possible to link to and play the video from YouTube while using the design and skin I design for my site? Or do I have to get tha actual Quicktime, FLV file?
I need to make myself walk in front of my Flash website. All I have is a movie with a white background. Does anyone know the process? Using Flash 8.

View 1 RepliesFlash Movie that works using Firefox and Safari on my (iMac) desktop, but not after I upload to my website.
I started with an flv video, imported it into an fla document along with a playback skin then published it creating an html file and two swf files. I've checked the html file, and it looks fine. The flv file is only 17MB and I've uploaded all 5 files to my site on:

but all I seem to get is the control skin's "sending data" pole turning. The movie never arrives. I can get much bigger mpeg and wmv movies up on my screen very quickly.
I'm running Snow Leopard on my Mac (OX 10.6.6). I've tried using different videos but nothing seems to work.

I want to put my blog into my flash movie and have it show up as an external website. (it's at [URL]). Is there a way to do this?
View 1 RepliesIs there a way to detect end of Flash movie (OOTB, without using some sort of flash callback). Alternatively, is there a way to know the length of the movie? Update: IsPlaying() looked promising (periodically checking it), but as it turns out, nobody is creating straight forward swfs any more; now, the content is embedded in main layer and while the content plays, the main movie is stopped and IsPlaying is always false...

View 7 RepliesI am setting up a Flash based MP3 player control (The standalone version of WordPress Standalone Player). I have a situation of multiple windows with players open. One window opens the other, so I have the window.opener property available. When the child window is opened, I want to programmatically mute the audio player in the parent window.
This works in Firefox, but not in IE 7 and 8. I know little about Flash/Javascript interaction and I'm stuck. I am not getting any error messages. To do this, the player SWF object has a setVolume() and close() function. These functions are not defined anywhere in Javascript so I guess that those are provided by the Flash object. This is supported by the following lines I found in the Flash source code of the player:

We have a site that comprises mainly of an embeded flash object containing navigation controls. All I want is to insert a small .swf movie that will play like an intro scene to the website before the main .swf loads for the site itself. All this means is I want to call up 1 flash object, play it through and then replace it with another once finished. This seems to be a relatively simple desire but after a couple of hours worth of forum-trawling.
