Professional :: Can't Customize Flash Buttons To Work

I am using Flash CS5. In flash the program has a set of buttons already in a folder within the program so you can use them for your website and projects. For those that know the buttons most of them have a text that says "enter". What I have done is dragged the button to my stage and double clicked on it so I can edit it. From there I change the text from enter to something else like say "home". My problem is that when I click duplicate or make a copy of that button and go to change the text it changes the text for my first button too.
So I have my first button that says "home". My second one is going to say "pictures" but when I change the text of my second button to pictures it automatically changes the text of my first button from home to pictures. It seems that the only way I can get my buttons to work is if each button has the same exact text and if I change the text to one button it changes the text to all my buttons and makes it all the same text. How can I fix this so each button has a different text? I have a layer on my main timeline that is called buttons and all my buttons are on there. I am using these buttons for my flash website project but instead of creating them myself I used the ones flash had because I found them a bit more stylish for my taste.

I am trying to make an index page with buttons for a photography site.the entire page is built in flash so far. I have created a drop down menu that is a Movieclip with 5 buttons.I can not seem to assign an external web page to each buttons that are under the movie clip drop down menu. Is this a possible? The Movie clip is run by mouse-over the word "studio Gallery" button. This drops down the 5 gallerbuttons (Portrait, children, wedding, Artistic Babies, etc...). In Flash 8 Pro I know I can assign an external web page named children on the main page but how do I assign these to the buttons in the drop down once the movieclip is made. Is this where I need to use folders with extra layers in the folder to make it work?

In my game people shoot at 4 different moving images and get points. Simple right? Well one of the images is a question mark that people can shoot and when they do, I need flash to pause the game timer, pop up a new window, display the multiple choice question in the window and wait for the user to answer. I would also like to be able to customize the size and location of the pop up window!
Then if the question is answered correctly close window award 10 points and continue the game. If the question is answered incorrectly, say wrong and then display the end game results screen. Right now I have it to where it opens a pop up in a web browser and askes the question there. The question is randomly chosen from a file called random.html. But I do not want the game to operate that way. I want the game to open the pop up within flash.

How can customize the horisontal position of the menubar-buttons? The ones I make always appear at x=0 of the menubar. And if I create some blank ones to sidestep the menubar, they always become small buttons with no text (they still show, though).

i'm just learning Flash at a local college and my instruction is not being very helpful, so i'm hoping someone can help me. I need to insert a "start" button that will start the movie. I have the button on a layer called "startButton". I inserted another layer and called it "stopMovie" - this is where I add a keyframe on the 1st from and the last frame and then add a actionscript to stopmovie on both frames.
The problem I'm having is when I select the 1st frame of the layer where the button is localed, I go to the actionscript window/global fuction/timeline and then I want to select "play" but the system has it grayed out so I can't select it. My only option is "goto". But that doesn't work. All I want the funtion to do is start playing when I click on the start button.

I've made several flash buttons for use in my navigation bars. They work great but the "back" arrows on the browser are always grayed out. It doesn't seem to matter what kind of browser I use. The site was made in Dreamweaver and the Flash buttons are imbedded within the pages. I posted the same question on the Dreamweaver forum and got some vague answers.
Is there some code I can put into my Flash buttons?
The site is [URL] or just type "Fire on McGinnis" into a search engine.

I am new to Flash CS4 so I may be doing something stupid. I created my assests on Photoshop CS4 and imported them into flash as flash layers. I followed a training video by Paul Trani about creating a first website. I have several pages in my site, home, about, contact, photos etc. I created navigation buttons for the homepage and they work great. However on my other pages I created different buttons as they are in a different place and have some additional buttons that the homepage does not have (except the contact page has common buttons to the homepage). I put the homepage and second page (contact) actions on frame 1. I then created a new keyframe at frame 20 where the rest of the pages uses common buttons. I then changed the language in the action script so as not to conflict with the frame 1 action script. I had trouble making the second group of buttons work so I created a new actions layer (actions2) and they work, except.
Well my homepage buttons work, all of them. I can even go to my contact page (which share the same buttons with the homepage) and then go back to the home page. I can also go from the homepage to the other pages and those buttons work... UNTIL I go back to the home page or to the contacts page (the pages that share buttons) then those buttons NO LONGER WORK??? It seems like once I committ myself to one group of pages (I consider myself having two groups of pages based on the sharing of buttons by each group) it disables the other group.

I'm trying to create a portfolio site and I'm running into some problems. I've built my main site on the timeline and all my buttons work fine the AS is very simple:

But when I make Movie clips of a scenes with buttons in them (children?) to try and simplify the site, AS doesn't seem to recognize the instance name for the button in the Movie Clip. I get an error message:
1120: Access of undefined property next_btn.
I've put an invisible button over the mc and given it the next_btn instance name and it works although I would like to fix the buttons in the MC properly. Is it better to condense a site into movie clips and single frames or should I just have a long linear timeline that spans many frames?

I have set up my buttons so that are each a movieclip with 'over' and 'out' states/frame labels. They exist on the main timeline. The actionscript controlling them is situated in a frame on the main timeline and the frame holding that actionscript is on the same point within the main timeline where the buttons are introduced. I am using actionscript 3.
The buttons have been set up so that they navigate to another frame on the same main timeline and on that frame is a movie. The movie dimensions are smaller than the main stage so the buttons are still accessible when each movie is played. The problem is my buttons are only working once - by that I mean they go to the correct place when clicked the first time, but when they are clicked again they navigate elsewhere. The buttons in the flash movie also link to movie frames in the flash and external html pages. Once movie plays and stops, all links work fine, the links to the anchors and the links to the other html pages, however when I try and link back to the flash movie from an external html page, to specific frames in the flash movie, the html link will link back to flash movie frame fine, however once your back in the flash movie, none of the buttons in the movie work anymore.I have embedded the flash movie in an HTML and published it with anchors,"home, about, events etc.used this code for several buttons in the flash linking to frame anchors in the movie:

I have a video gallery that has 24 different videos to choose from. I am trying to find a way that a user can pick from the 24 to create a new customized list of videos to play. The idea is that a sales rep could choose the videos they want to show to a client and only show those videos. Currently the only way I can think of to do it is for me to edit the xml file with only the list of videos that they want. Maybe there is a way to pick the videos from a list, press an export list button that would then save over the xml file with a new xml file that only has the videos that they selected.

I'm new and am having a bit of trouble loading one swf into another for a preloader and main program. If u open up flashSite.fla or the swf, everything works, but when I load it into a mc container of preloaderMomSite, the animated buttons no longer work. If someone could take a look, I would love to find out what I'm doing wrong. All files are located on in the same directory.

Im using Flash 8 to make a meny for my webiste. When you point whit the mouse on the meny it will scroll down, and if you take it outside it will scroll back. But im facing a problem When i try to put buttons or linked text into the movieclip, they just wont work... Anyone know what i have done wrong?Here you can download the movieclipHeres the code.

I'm having problems with the flash buttons on the flash website i made for a client. or some reason the buttons in the top and bottom menu work on some people's computers but on some they don't. I don't know what to do, i had this code for all the buttons,

But if I want to test the buttons to see if they work on my system (localhost) and not on a random website, what url do I put? Or do I have to wait until I put my pages on the server and simply paste in the address?

Working on the following site [URL] On the "What we Do" page (one click to the right) each company logo is linked using the Action Script 2 below. Only the "Zipfizz" button works though. The rest of the buttons only work very rarely. I made a stock button from a white box then turned the opacity to 0. Put one over every logo with the proper dimensions and gave them the right instance names. If you click the logo repeatedly in different areas the link will sometimes work. Anyone have an idea what's going on? I not very familiar with AS2, only AS3 but the site was built by another designer awhile ago.

I have a big problem - I decided to make a website using flash as I am good with photoshop and thought it would be fairly easy to construct in flash using tutorials. All went well except now the website is published, weird things happen. The homepage works fine but when you click on "portfolio" some of the buttons don't appear and when you try the buttons, some images don't appear. Occasionally some of the buttons take you to the wrong place also. When I test the movie in flash, everything works fine so I can't work it out. I am a complete novice so advice will have to be spelt out in black and white.

My buttons only work when I click on them on the stage while having the "enable simple buttons" option on. They do not work if I try to "test movie," "test scene" and publish it to a SWF. Nothing responds whenever I am in these modes. I am using Adobe Flash Professional CS5 Actionscript 2.0.

Attached is an FLA with an image that moves onto the stage. There are 5 button MCs which are supposed to move the image left/right. Works great, only if the SWF is published for Version 6. However, published as a version 8 swf, the buttons no longer create motion. On a different thread, somebody published it as a version 8 and 9 SWF and said the buttons worked perfectly..FYI, clicking into the , imageStrip_mc is an Actions layer, as well as the Actions on the root timeline.I am using Mac OS X Flash CS 3 - v 9.0 - using ActionScript 2

iv created a flash gallery using AS3. im having it self study so im not sure how well to manipulate the codes. what i did was place some codes on each frame where my next/previous buttons are place.. it works fine locally, but when i upload it online, it seems not to work and the whole frame runs when it should stop frame by frame.

have a simple flash file that allows a user to click on 12 different buttons, each of which will display an image. Once the image is displayed there is a "close" button that appears which will take the user back to the main screen. The file works fine, except that once a user has opened and closed an image, they are brought back to the main screen where all of the other buttons stop working

building a website but to run a control interface for av... the companies component is in AS2.. Have CS4 Flash - built buttons (and cool ones they are) in a AS2 environment. I cannot control sections of the timeline and I now know I will not be able send control to my devices as the buttons require different code (I think) Tried standard library buttons and no problem.. I believe I would need eventlisteners etc.. tried for the last 2 days to make it work.. I don't drink so my last resort.
I want to click on the buttons (separate layer) and go to a section on my timeline.

I have a movie clip with 15 frames. Each frame has buttons on it (mc's)... I was going to put the actions on the main timeline/stage and navigate within the MC from the main timeline. Is that possible? I can get the buttons on the first frame of the MC to work, but I can't seem to figure out how to target/make the buttons on the other frames work? I was thinking I could identify the path of the MC with the frame labels, but that doesn't seem to work. like: _root.RMChanger.(frame label).buttonOnFrame = function
I have to move a text box in and out over the MC backgrounds on the main stage... which is why I was thinking to do it this way? I've been switching back and forth bwtween AS2.0 and 3.0
