Professional :: Question Regarding User Interface Text Size?
Aug 9, 2010I'm doing a trial of the CS5 applications and I cannot seem to find out to increase the size of the font on my user interface. I'm finding the default font size to be too small to work effectively and find the commands I need. I've tried Edit->Preferences which is where one typically finds this type of interface option; however, I do not see any way to do this. I've tried adjusting my screen resolution and screen font size and while this affects every other application on my screen, it does not affect Flash Professional.

Aug 20, 2009I have a PopUpButton that only contains 2 actions. Both actions are complete opposites of each other and switches a boolean property on an object from true to false or false to true. To avoid redundancy, I've only displaying one action at a time. So, if the property is true, the action to change it to true is not shown.
If my PopUp menu has a single option, I would like to remove the menu from being shown and basically revert the PopUpButton to act and look like a regular button. So far, I haven't really found a good way to do that in ActionScript without adding, removing or modifying styles for the button.
Is there a nice way to simply tell the button to hide the PopUp toggle? PS: In my specific example, YES it might be easier if I just used a toggle button. However, I want to reuse this button when dealing with an Array of objects. If I have more than one, the property could be true and false at the same time. In that case, I want to show the menu so they can choose what option to set all the object's properties to.
Professional :: Can't Customize Flash Buttons To Work
Mar 29, 2011I am using Flash CS5. In flash the program has a set of buttons already in a folder within the program so you can use them for your website and projects. For those that know the buttons most of them have a text that says "enter". What I have done is dragged the button to my stage and double clicked on it so I can edit it. From there I change the text from enter to something else like say "home". My problem is that when I click duplicate or make a copy of that button and go to change the text it changes the text for my first button too.
So I have my first button that says "home". My second one is going to say "pictures" but when I change the text of my second button to pictures it automatically changes the text of my first button from home to pictures. It seems that the only way I can get my buttons to work is if each button has the same exact text and if I change the text to one button it changes the text to all my buttons and makes it all the same text. How can I fix this so each button has a different text? I have a layer on my main timeline that is called buttons and all my buttons are on there. I am using these buttons for my flash website project but instead of creating them myself I used the ones flash had because I found them a bit more stylish for my taste.

Jun 16, 2010I have a site that includes a Flash music player integrated into the layout. I want users to be able to navigate around the site without interrupting the music. I've done plenty of research and thinking and the following are the options I came up with (keeping in mind I want to be as SEO friendly as possible).
AJAX: I set up a version that changes the main content div to whatever nav link they click, thereby not interrupting the Flash player. I set it up in the proper search-engine-friendly manner with direct links and JQuery/Ajax functions. If someone goes to site.com/ and clicks the Contact nav link, it loads what's in the main content div on site.com/contact.php into the main content div and changes the URL bar to site.com/#Contact. The same goes for if they go to site.com/contact.php and click About in the nav, it loads the About content and changes the URL bar to site.com/contact.php#About. Obviously this opens up a whole new can of worms with AJAX and hash navigation/history issues, and I would end up with people possibly linking to things like site.com/contact.php#About (which I think looks terrible and can't be too great for SEO). Store the Flash player vars somewhere and reload them with the page: I'm not sure how to go about this, but I thought about keeping my regular navigation without AJAX and have it so when a user clicks a nav link, before it changes pages it stores the Flash player vars (current song and song position) somewhere, then loads them into Flash when the new page loads. Something with an iframe? Good alternative to a Flash player that will work for this type of application?

Sep 14, 2009(I'm using the free Flex SDK and compiling actionscript on the command-line) How can I create interface components around a Bitmap? I'd like to lay out my interface so that the Bitmap is in some sort of container, which interface components above and below it (and maybe to the side) Is it possible for a Bitmap to be the child of some Flex container? I haven't coded Flash since Flash 8. I'm not sure how to go about this at all. I thought maybe the Canvas container might work, but it throws a runtime error

Aug 31, 2010In my game people shoot at 4 different moving images and get points. Simple right? Well one of the images is a question mark that people can shoot and when they do, I need flash to pause the game timer, pop up a new window, display the multiple choice question in the window and wait for the user to answer. I would also like to be able to customize the size and location of the pop up window!
Then if the question is answered correctly close window award 10 points and continue the game. If the question is answered incorrectly, say wrong and then display the end game results screen. Right now I have it to where it opens a pop up in a web browser and askes the question there. The question is randomly chosen from a file called random.html. But I do not want the game to operate that way. I want the game to open the pop up within flash.

What I mean is....I noticed that if I drag a movie clip from the library to the stage, give it an instance name ('xx'), I can access it from code using "this.xx". However, if I add the movieClip from code using:

User Interface - Flex Give Yes/No Box For Checkbox Deselect?
Nov 21, 2011I want to show the user a confirmation box when they deselect a checkbox. My code works although I think it is a bit of a hack. I listen to the checkbox click and then show the alert. Depending on the result I then set the checkbox to be checked again.

the code is specific to cb1 and cannot be reused for other checkboxes the checkbox is deselected when the alert shows. Then when the user clicks no the checkbox is selected again. stop the uncheck event if the user clicks no on the alert box. Is it possible to intercept this in Flex?

What I've accomplished so far is to create a rollOver and rollOut effects wherein rollOut reverses the movie clip back to its first frame. I was also able to add an 'on release' script where it will play an external movie clip...

May 25, 2010I have a video gallery that has 24 different videos to choose from. I am trying to find a way that a user can pick from the 24 to create a new customized list of videos to play. The idea is that a sales rep could choose the videos they want to show to a client and only show those videos. Currently the only way I can think of to do it is for me to edit the xml file with only the list of videos that they want. Maybe there is a way to pick the videos from a list, press an export list button that would then save over the xml file with a new xml file that only has the videos that they selected.

Flex :: User Interface - Title Window Goes Out Of Accessible Area?
Jul 2, 2011I have a strange issue- I use a title window to create a message to the user. The user has the ability to move the title window around the screen so that the main screen is visible.However if the user were to move the title window way too much, it can actually go outside the browser accessible area- the user has no option but to close the browser and start again. How do we ensure that the title window movement is limited, such that the title bar is always available for control?

Nov 18, 2011I would like to have a spark datagrid that wordwraps all rows where relevant. At the moment it appears like the width of a cell is dependent on the contents of the first row and then subsequent rows are word wrapped. For example:

Jun 8, 2011This is a computer I am provided with while I work onsite. I am having severe corruption issues. Sometimes the fly out panels appear on the opposite side of the monitor, scroll bars duplicate and appear over the top of my work, and the toolbar just disappears completly until I mouse over each button and force flash to redraw them. It seems to be redraw issues of flashs actual interface, not my work.Not sure how flash renders its own interface, but my .NET framework and java is up to date if that makes any diff.Is this an incompatibility with the video card? I've never seen this before and I wasnt able to find any solutions while googling, or even mentions of this issue, unless I was just searching for the wrong keywords

Jan 10, 2007I'm trying to setup an interface where an event is triggered by the user pressing a key on the keyboard. So far I have the following code in a button on the stage:

Which works fine. I was wondering if there was a way to either remove the case sensitive properties of the keypress action, or to force the keyboard to return a caps lock or something. The only way I can think of doing it so far would be something like this:

on (keyPress "A"){
[code]...
Which obviously will double the amount of code needed - especially as the event for a small c and a capital C would be the same.
Professional :: Flash CS5 Interface Won't Re-draw After A Few Minutes Of Use?
Oct 1, 2010I'm having an incredibly annoying problem with Flash CS5 on my Mac that is making the software absolutely unusable.
If I open a previously worked on file and start deleting layers and moving keyframes, the screen never redraws the interface. As in, if I delete a layer, I don't actually see it go away. It's still there in the interface. Minimizing/maximizing does nothing to refresh the interface.

Jan 14, 2011I'm creating a library of UI elements, and I want the graphics to be custom. At first, I was going to draw everything with code, and take properties such as "background-base-color", "background-gradient-color", etc. I was concerned that the user would need to modify too many properties and might get confused. I eventually talked myself into using external graphics, such as button_top_left_over.png and etc. Now I'm back and forth. I want people to easily be able to change the skin, so my options are, have them create external graphic libraries, or have them update properties in a front end that would write to XML, such as background-base-color, background-base-highlight,etc.
