View 4 RepliesI have a mov file that's 157 megabytes. I try running it on my page within a javascript scroller animation and the animation is very choppy and in fact I used css to simulate a mask but the thing doesn't get masked, probably do to the sluggishness of whole page, the page never fully loads, and the movie file makes it nearly impossible to scroll through the page. The file is just too huge. I currently have it embedded as such:

1) Should I convert the mov to swf - that is, is swf a more compatible and appropriate format for seamless integration in html web page?
2) Whichever I choose, how do I reduce the file size - like on youtube where the videos run seamlessly? I plan on using javascript to scroll through a gallery of videos, so I need the videos to not bog down the page.
3) Also, a lot of sites with galleries of videos have an icon that indicates "click to play". Is that part of the video itself or can I just create an image and then when clicked on, the video plays?
I do have Adobe Flash CS4 Professional, if that matters. And if mov file is more suitable, then how can I reduce its file size?

I have an MP3 of helicopter blades that's about 4 seconds. I put this as a layer in my movie of the helicopter, yet the sound "hesitates" when the movie loops. The audio goes from edge to edge of every frame of the movie, yet I still get the hesitation.

The problem is, there's something of a noticeable stutter when the MP3 reaches the end, just before it starts up again. The first MP3 (contrary to the others), is a seamless ambient sound which ought to sound perfect in the FLA, but doesn't, again, because of the slight stutter in starting it up again. Is there a better way to do this? I thought, perhaps, this would be fixed if I removed the "stop();" line and instead had it play the next frame, which would invariably send it back to the previous one, but this changed nothing. Is there a better method to use? Even with the other three MP3s, which aren't seamless, I want to loop, unless and until the user clicks the 'Mute' button.
I used code that kglad suggested to add a button that copies the embed code for a SWF to the user's clipboard:

I'm developing Flash for a CD.I want to create a button for the user to click and then have a choice to save or open file (like PDF or Word file).

I can't see anything wrong with the above. I intend to use the code for a CD ROM.abc.doc will sit on the CD ROM. When I click on the button, it opens a browser window and tries to go to google.com.I had it working the other day.
i am creating a simple set of a few rectangles stacked on top of eachother (going to be like a stack of postcards) and i want to have the user click on the top rectangle and it moves to reveal the one underneath it. i have it all set up to work except i can't think of a way to stop it from being clickable after it's been moved to the side and the 2nd rectangle is revealed. does this make any sense? here is my code:

Everything I've tried so far with a FLVPlayback component to seemlessly loop a progressively-downloaded 15 second video has failed. There's always a split-second pause when it's time to loop. For the scenario, embedding video in a flash project is not an option, and the split-second pause is unacceptable. I've tried setting autorewind to true and handling autorewind event fired by FLVplayback. I've tried watching the playhead of the flvplayer for when It gets upwards of 99.5 percent done and seeking to 0. My latest solution involves having two VideoPlayer instances with the same source behind the FLVPlayback component and toggling between them when it's time to loop, and there is still a seem between the end and beginning. I've tested the video in quicktime to make sure it's not an artifact of the video.
View 1 Repliesso Macromedia says Flash can't really loop mp3s seamlessly, and suggests importing WAV files. But if you're using AS to load an external sound at runtime, this is not possible. So I ask you, coding geniuses, is there a work-around to the silence that Flash adds to the beginning (end?) of an mp3 file, thus causing it to loop incorrectly (I've already tried adding a decimal to the secondsOffset and it sounds awful).

When importing the .flv file of the video into the Flash project, I chose the imbedding method. I realize this increases the size of the overall .swf file when doing so. On the first watch (before the file is cached) it tends to pause while loading and/or jumps. I've tried other methods (like choosing the file has already been deployed to a web server, and play methods such as progressive download from a web server, stream from a Flash video streaming service, and stream from a Flash communication server). When choosing those other methods, the video loads nicely but the audio sounds a bit more distorted while playing. So, at present, I'm using the embed video in SWF and play in timeline option. Does anyone have any other suggestions to improve the video buffer speed, performance and the overall loading and quality of the Flash file? I'm still using Flash Professional 8.
I created a photo gallery using flash and I can't get it to work on my web page.I am using Flash CS5 and Dreamweaver CS3.If I just open the html file (the one Flash created when I published it) it works just fine but, when I put the Flash video on the page I created in Dreamweaver, it plays, but without the images.

I'm going to have a motion graphics piece where a vid will play for a short time, filling the screen, then shrink to a small square thats in a grid of 6-9 small squares. Once it shrinks down, it stops at its current frame. So there will be 6-9 small squares of the last frame of 6-9 videos. Can this be accomplished in flash? I have about 8 different graphical elements and I want to change the appearance of these 8 different movieClips just by clicking a single button. I thought I would just create a new keyframe in my main time line and then manipulate the movieClips but that changed the appearance of the movie clip on frame 1 as well. Clarification: I want to change the color of my user interface background and I want to change the color of some clickable images as well. I want frame 1 to have a white background and I want frame 2 to have a red background. Do I need to create more movie clips and drag them onto my stage or can I just use the existing movieClips since all I really want to do is change colors?

Previously, in Flash CS3, I got the following dialogue box: Flash CS3 export box Notice the fact that I can change the export resolution in this box. I set the resolution to what I want, and then click the quicktime settings box to change the movie's imensions to what I want. The resolution settings in this picture determine what dimensions the flash movie is rendered at, not the final quicktime movie. Now, take a look at my new dialogue box:

If I go into the quicktime settings and export out a movie at a higher resolution, it first renders the flash file at the ative resolution in the picture and then upsizes it to the quicktime resolution, resulting in a very low-quality, blurry movie.
