I am trying to copy frames from 6 different layers along with the objects (action script, tween motions, buttons, graphic elements) from one movieclip to another. But once I do that, everyhting seems to be shifted and if I try to reposition the items in the new clip, it seems like I would have to repeat after every keyframe for each layer.
So my question is A. Is there a way to duplicate a movie clip but give it a instance name (an entirely new movieclip with the same frames and layers in the same position as the previous)?
B. How can I move mutliple objects across layers and keyframes?
I have several objects, moveclip, graphics and shapes in several layers keys and want to change position, for example, a moveclip is in the position X: 218 Y:45 and so in other key layers,To change it to X: 240 Y: 50, I go to keyframe for keyframe touch the object and go to properties and change one by one is annoying.Is there any way to do this more quickly at one time in all key frames?
How does one select layers then bring them into a new MovieClip with their artwork and functionality etc intact.
I have a load of layers which together form a map with animations that run on it. A static key with a few buttons runs the animations on the map. I need to pan/zoom this map and as such need to package all these layers that form the map up into something that can be referred to in the coding for the pan and zoom functions.
I created a new layer in my timeline, called it MapPanZoom, then went Insert>new>movieClip.
I now need to remove the maps layers from the timeline and into the timeline for the movieClip I just created. How is this done ?
Leaves behind the static key that sits outside of the map, when a button in the key is clicked, I hope to see it run the animation on the map, and have a user able to zoom and pan the map whilst it runs.
I tried selecting the layers then edit>copy, then opening MapPanZoom movieClip from Library and edit>paste, nothing happened. Planned to delete the layers if it had worked out of the original scene1.
I'm having an odd problem that I can't seem to resolve. I'm updating some old animations (created around 2004-2005). Most have gone without a hitch, however one file has been a problem.
First the specs: Windows 7 64bit, Master Collection CS5.5. All updated.
The problem with the file:
I can open it just fine, test the movie, etc. If I try to save the document, it fails, saying "Unable to save the document as...". I can save the file as a CS4 document, which seems to work OK. However, I need to move the contents into a new document. If I try to Copy the laters, Flash immediately crashes.
I have not got to Action Script 3 yet, but I intend to. I am trying to animate two objects (they are single digits) on different layers. They are the only things on their respective layer. The first object animates just fine. When I add the second object (to its own layer), I can view it as long as the cursor remains in text mode, but just as soon as I try to convert to a symbol, it disappears from the screen(just like it is invisible). There is no way to motion tween it. But when test out the movie clip, I get the first object moving as it should, but the second one just sits there(as text) where I created it.
And ... I get the following error message. Fonts should be embedded for any text that may be edited at runtime, other than text with the "Use Device Fonts" setting. Use the Text > Font Embedding command to embed fonts. TypeError: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: cannot convert flash.text::TextField@30a8c101 to flash.display.MovieClip. at flash.display::Sprite/constructChildren() at flash.display::Sprite() at flash.display::MovieClip() at Untitled_fla::MainTimeline() What should I do? I need two objects to move simultaneously and independently. Both objects are dynamic digits.
im having trouble figuring out the difference between the layers on the time line and the dept of object that can be manipulated by actionscript.in a single layer there can be many objects but in actionscript at specific dept you can manipulate just one object using function such as setchildindex() .so in a movie clip where there are several objects in a single layer how can you access and change their depth as in bring them to front or put them to the bottom
I don't understand how it's possible to have a lot of objects on the stage and be able to manage the motion tweens with all of them, but ALSO manage which objects are in front and which are in back of each other. I have a military type animation and there is a lot of action going on, and there are times where I need some of my guys to be in front of objects, and times when they need to be behind.
I don't know how to manage the objects in regards to layers and motions in a way so I can get the objects in the order I need them to be (like which item goes in front of the other).
Does anyone have any tips or a way that I can manage my objects and motions and be able to sort them on the stage so that I can arrange the objects how I need them to be in regards to placement and which should be in front of other objects?
if there is an option to refer to a layer as a named object. so if I have a layer named 'myLayer' I can to control about the alpha amount, for instance, of all the objects (symbols, movieclips etc.) that inside this layer or to move all those objects together as a one unit by some pixels.

originalData is the original state of my data from database. data is a copy of originalData used to be manipulated as the provider for my List component. There's a button I use to call the create() function above, that would mean, I want to revert all changes in data, and go back to everything I have in originalData.
But when I debug my function, originalData has all the changes made in data.
When I use
list.selectedItem.thing = "new string";
is supposed to modify data[index].thing, because data is my List.dataprovider. but it changes originalData[index].thing also and this collection wasn't used for anything, except for creating a copy of itself!
I don't know why this happens. I didn't know how to phrase this behaviour as a google query.
This has consumed more time than its functionality is worth.

I'd like to create an ability to drag-n-drop ~10 max. objects onto target and to get a list or a line of names 'associated' with them, separated by commas or smth. Then, to be able to copy that list into clipboard.
I have create the "snow" effect with the linked tutorial, basically it manipulates the instance of an object on the canvas and calls the script in the actions on the animation load.However, I cant get the generated snow to show behind any other objects on the canvas.

I'm new to the whole flash thing and I'm learning on flash 8 - In photoshop you can group layers so that the blending mode you use on a layer will only apply to the layers in that group... I've been searching all over, and maybe it's right in front of me, but does flash have a way of isolating the selected blending mode to just the layers or objects of the user's choice?
I'm trying to make a copy of an array filled with Canvas objects. I use this code:
arCopy = ObjectUtil.copy(myClass.myArray) as Array;
What I get is an array arCopy filled with Objects instead of Canvas. Each of these Objects has propersties suggesting that it was Canvas (like uid="Canvas333" or name="Canvas333"), but it's instance of Object class. I've been using ObjectUtil.copy() before but never seen such behaviour.
Internally Flash obviously keeps a list of the primitives drawn using Graphics so I wondered if you have many such primitives in a Sprite, can you re-position/remove/alter individual items rather than clear and re-draw everything? Or is this deeper into the bowels of Flash than you're allowed (or recommended) to go?
I'm using Zend AMF to send my remote objects to Flex. I've defined a Constant class and created getASClassName() method. Then I've created Action script class in flex.
Objects are send successfully, but they are deserialized to generic Objects in Flex instead of specific ones. EDIT: On network monitor in Flex I can see that AMF value is set to com.my.project.valueobjects.Constant. Although array from event.result contains Objects.
I have an array of temporary objects created in a for loop. The objects are of type class "Tile", a class I created. However, it appears that whenever I create a lot of tiles in the for loop, the program slows down indefinitely.
While the array is whiped at a later trigger point, I am thinking that perhaps these Tile objects are not being erased from memory. They are being created on the fly in a for loop, and the array is being reset to "array = []".
Are the objects still in memory or are they cleaned up when the array is set to []?
What I have is a game with a Level object, inside the Level is a Player object, and they don't have instance names given, what I'm trying to figure out is how to do is make it so that the player can change the x or y properties of the Level object.
To be more precise, I'm making it so that when the player moves in a certain direction, he either moves accross the stage, or he starts moving the Level object around the stage, it'd be in an Event kind of function, now I can easily make the Player move, but I don't know how to make the Level object move which the player is inside of.

I will try to give as much detail as I can. I am creating an CRM application using Flex(Cairngorm 2)/Java/Hibernate. The basic problem I am having is this: I have a Customer class in Java that has an ArrayList of Address classes. I have a Customer class in Flex that has an ArrayCollection of Address classes. When I make the remote object call for a Customer I get back a Customer object in Flex, but the ArrayCollecion objects have a data type of Object instead of Address. If I try to call for a List of Address classes I get the same result. If I try to call for a List of Customer classes I get a list of Customer classes in Flex. Using tomcat 6 with the following jars:
How do I align a movieclip, which width and height is user-defined, inside another object (this one is static, though). Top-left alignment is easy, x=0 and y=0, but what about center, center left, bottom left, etc? Math(.round) i suppose, but how?I want an object (static) inside the movieclip (user-defined) to stay aligned to, for instance, the top right corner, similiar to the minimize, maximize and close buttons at the top right of your browser.. The height and width data is pre-defined by the user in another file.But that does probably not make any difference...
I want to create a flash movie which firstly loads a selection of images/objects into a portion of the frame. After this is complete, the user can then drag these objects onto another area and the object will be created where the user has chosen. The user can then drag another instance of the ojects onto the area.
For example, there is a background of a lake in one area. A selection of boat pngs are loaded in an area below the lake. The user can drag these boats and place them on the lake. They can drag a boat multiple times if they wish.
I have two movie-clips, one is small-box and another is big-box .Both are rectangular shape. Small- box has an index 0, and big-box has an index 1. Their x,y are same and big-box being big in size gets hide small-box. Now the problem is the listener attached to small-box does not fire as big-box is on the top of small-box. what would be the way to get listener fired when click on small-box area??

can i bind objects within objects? for instance, can i do the following: BindingUtils.bindProperty(verbatim.NameText,"text" ,controller.recipDisplayed,"name"); where verbatim is a Canvas with a TextArea object named 'NameText'? Also, controller is a custom object with a public, bindable property called 'recipDisplayed', and that object has a String property called 'name'?
